@MehnofLaMehncha One in my basement above my work bench. I have a speaker dock there I bought off Meh but it isn’t bluetooth and is a pain, so I figure this speaker will be perfect. Might try one in my garage too IF it is loud enough. If not i’ll give one out. Hard to beat at $7.50 each I’d say if they work half as good as I’m hoping.
@asdfjlkas You could apply that to almost anything. Not Large Hadron Collider compatible? You can reverse engineer that and code some stuff, and it could probably work.
I’m just messing around, it really probably wouldn’t be too hard to get up for macOS.
@asdfjlkas Yeah, not gonna happen. Certainly not for this POS.
My comment was more of a (failed) joke anyway. Back in the days, Mac compatibility was a concern. These days, it’s flipped because of the app gap with Windows Phones.
@lilpaox The video is great. Add some romantic atmosphere into the air by playing on your phone and putting a giant flower light inbetween you and your date!! date-night
I skipped the light fandango- always wondered what that meant. Never dreamt that the answer would be here today. Yup, it all makes sense now. A Tuesday 2for1 shitty ass overgrown Christmas bulb attached to a repurposed speaker taken from a RAZR Flip phone and run by an app created by some fucktard. Yes, I truly did skip the light fandango, and I’m glad I did. This crazy bitch even did some cartwheels she was so excited she skipped this deal!
@Felyne I believe that is for LEDs that can only display one color temperature, such as 5600K or 6000K, which is bright “white” light, similar to sunlight, but has the blue tint. I’m not sure about these bulbs, but my Hue bulbs can change color temperature down really low and be more like candle light, which is what I use in the evening to get rid of any blue light that has also been shown to stop production of melatonin which keeps you awake at night.
So can you connect to this and NOT use their crappy app for music? I typically use Spotify or Amazon Music. Sure hope it’s a regular BT configuration and doesn’t require that crappy looking app.
A seriously flawed implementation of an idea of questionable utility. Probably the mehest offering since Bagbowls and RoboSmasherz - you’ve out-meh’d yourselves this time (if that even makes sense). All that aside, the thought of having those lights blinking in beat to obnoxiously loud Christmas tunes is sooo compelling. Especially if you can put it in a hard to reach socket… I’ll probably wait until they are sold out before I decide to buy.
I bought the Awox Striimlight bluetooth lights several months ago and I bought these last week. I got these yesterday. The light is bright, contrary to the video. I initially used Google playstore and then the scanned the QR code on the box to find an app. Don’t bother! When I looked back at the details Meh suggested the best app for android which is iLight. Thanks Meh! I wish these had a committed remote like the Striimlight ones, but I am using a side phone as the remote. I still can’t get the Awox lights to work with an app…any suggestions?
These things rock! I was expecting the very worst, and I’m surprisingly happy. The iPhone app does what it should, and the light connected quickly. I was worried the light bulb would be reliant on the app to play music but it is not. Shows up like any other Bluetooth speaker would, and you can play music from any player directly to it without the gimicky app.
The range on this thing is insane! Goes through walls and from 1st to 2nd floor without skipping a beat.
I plan to keep 1 over my basement work bench, and 1 in my garage.
Didn’t work for me - at least not the light-up portion. The speaker part works. Doesn’t sound great, but hey. I’ll give the other one away so it’s someone else’s problem.
@anneburdge I thought I had the same problem. I’m using IOS, you don’t say what you are using. You must have bluetooth connected since the sound works. You have to hit the Bluetooth Conn (on the left hamburger menu) first. Then hit search and when the Sun Beats shows up on top, select it. Then the light will work. Good Luck.
My bulb lights up, but I can’t get the app that you scan on the box to find the bulb. Nor can I get the one from SunBeats site to work either. I have Android, running Nougat 7.1 anyone get these working?
got these today and grabbed the unofficial app. seems to work just fine. these things are kind of fun. also like the fact they’re bluetooth. i assume you all will take them to people’s houses, swap out a bulb when they’re not looking and then proceed to scare the shit out of them? no? just me? carry on then.
one weird thing i’ve found is that when the music is playing, if i go to the camera and try to record a video, the audio cuts out until i stop the recording. anyone else getting this?
@carl669 that’s pretty normal. The phone automatically stops making whatever noise it’s making so it doesn’t mess up the recording. I’m not sure if you can override that.
@RiotDemon but the phone isn’t the one making the noise though. i guess technically it is. maybe it just doesn’t know the bt audio gateway is connected and is just assuming the sound is playing through its own speakers. stupid phone.
@carl669 I looked into it a little bit. If you are using music player that stays in your notification bar, just pause it, start recording, then pull down and hit play on the app in the notification tray.
@jayman007 that app looks the same as the one I used, but it was in English. I don’t have my original app on my phone because I decided the color changing was pointless for where I use this bulb.
@RiotDemon The app I got and linked to is in English as far as I can tell. The gui is all in english anyways. I use it mostly for turning the light off from bed. The color changing is kinda lame.

@Stallion
Oh, you gotta tell us now, where?
@MehnofLaMehncha probably the bathroom humiliate thing

Speaking of lights-- what a bright idea – Edison deal tonight I guess
Does this work with Alexa?
@gwaki : let us know if you found a way to make them work with Alexa…
You folks somehow found a second brand of lightbulb speaker?!
@brhfl IKR. That’s amazing.
These lights rock
@gwaki
Bluetooth speakers. What a surprise. <not>
@heartny I think the correct syntax is:
Bluetooth speakers.
<not>What a surprise.</not>
Beginning to wonder if Meh is just a front for a Bluetooth speaker conglomerate…
@Bayamonprieto77 Not just a conglomerate, the whole damned cartel.
MacWindows compatible?@narfcake Probably not natively. If you don’t mind some reverse engineering & coding, you could probably get it working.
@asdfjlkas You could apply that to almost anything. Not Large Hadron Collider compatible? You can reverse engineer that and code some stuff, and it could probably work.
I’m just messing around, it really probably wouldn’t be too hard to get up for macOS.

@narfcake just tried. Not natively at least.
Stocking stuffers for my kids. Each get one bulb. Ho ho ho
You… you can’t use more than one bulb with the same phone? How is this a thing?
@Beardmancer
I can’t believe everyone isn’t freaking out about this.
Quote:
You can’t control multiple bulbs with the same phone…
The iOS app works just fine.
How did anyone type those two sentences without their head exploding??
@MehnofLaMehncha it works exactly as intended: poorly.
Sunbeats? Really? Sunbeats?
NewEgg
@lilpaox Seemsto be a different version. The one on Newegg includes a remote controller.
@lilpaox The video is great. Add some romantic atmosphere into the air by playing on your phone and putting a giant flower light inbetween you and your date!! date-night
Sound quality? Ha! If that spec is right, there’s no bass. At all.
/image no bass
I’m also highly doubtful about the 1200-1300 lumens at 10w.
@narfcake Still a better frequency range than most light bulbs.
@narfcake Soon, someone will invent the bluetooth subwoofer lightbulb to solve this problem.
$398 (lol) List,naw, on their site the list price has been cut in half…now a bargain at $199…
@eeterrific
That is $199 for one (1) bulb, thus $398 for two.

I actually keep trying to talk myself into this. Seriously. So close. I don’t think I’ll ever quite do it.
@joelmw I thought the same thing, until I realized “hey white elephant gift exchange at work coming up!”
The twilight psychological torture bit was so far beyond “on point”!
From the video these look borderline useless as an actual lightbulb.

i don’t understand how you can’t use the same phone to power both.
couldn’t you just pair one via bluetooth, disconnect it, and then pair the other?
@elpepe I “think” that should work. Just can’t connect to two simultaneously.
lol @ the transparently fake reviews at the iTunes app store:
That iTunes user “best bulb ever” must be a real “power” user.
I thought the first picture was the mock up…then I got to the mock up, and it actually makes them look even more fucked
a fitting order number…

Why does the still Image show blue glowing through the portholes in the silver band, but in the video no such array of light shines through them. Hum?
1200 to 1300lumens? No way. More like 120 to 130 lumens.
This is what happens when I should be asleep. Aaarrgh.

Anyone know if the brightness is adjustable? I would be replacing a three-way bulb, do dimming is important to me.
@curtw4 yes, you can adjust brightness level.

@gak0090 why don’t you tell us how you really feel?
@RiotDemon I’m trying to hold back a bit, seems like people have been getting offended far too easily.
@gak0090 i’m offended you held back. communist.
@carl669 I can appreciate anyone who’s offended that I mitigate my offensiveness. I think I’ll use this as my mantra

The description on the Android app is legendary. “What’s new: 1. Optimize interface. 2. optimize the user experience. 3. modify some bug.”
How am I supposed to know if I want this until I’ve seen someone disassemble it?
The app promises “new life new realm.” Count me in!
There’s been controversy with LED’s and eye health, so I’m bagging them. Now maybe if u sell blue blockers with them…

@michaelgj2002 AFAIK, the Awox lights are not controlled by Bluetooth, hence no app.
@michaelgj2002 the awox doesn’t use an app. It’s just a regular Bluetooth speaker that you connect to.
@michaelgj2002 hey… can you help?
when you say bright, how do they compare at max brightness to say… a 60W incandescent bulb?
@thismyusername I would say it’s as bright if not brighter than a 60w bulb. It does the job on the plain white setting.
@narfcake Thanks!
Can you connect it to the amazon echo?

Help. I’m in need of the Android app and it seems to be pulled from the play store. Anyone have a copy of a working one they can send me?
@jayman007 I believe I downloaded an after market app for this. Of course now I can’t find it.
@jayman007
I found it shortly after you asked your question, but I can’t confirm it’s fine.
Though if @RiotDemon still had the app, she could just back it up and send you the apk.
