@cengland0 the world really needs to enable extension cord “breeding” technology! Imagine returning to your power cord storage and finding more cords than you left with some added hybrid characteristics. Now that would be innovation!
@cinoclav this actually can solve the problem of having tabletop electronics with shorter cords. If you can wrap the plug near the top of a table you can save the cord length from the ground to your electronic device. Trade shows, catering events for heated serving. I think, anyway.
@kjl76112 So can a regular extension cord and a zip tie or velcro strap which will keep it much more flush and not have some huge, gaudy plastic tube taking up space.
@awk agreed - i don’t have a use for these but i have three of the ‘power pod’ cords by quirky and i love them. (a cord with three outlets spaced feet apart.) living in an old house with hardly any outlets they’ve been a lifesaver.
@phatmass it isn’t simply that it wraps around stuff - unlike a plain old extension cord, once wrapped appropriately around stuff, the orientation of that flat-receptacle end means you can more easily one-hand plug something into it.
@phatmass Only if you have a situation where you can not wrap it around something or use a pipe cleaner to attach it. Of course I can not think of a relevant situation… LOL
Your house is flooding. The water level is rising and you’re trapped. You’re panicking. Death is certain.
However, you remember you have a battery-powered teleportation device in your pocket. Due to your negligence, the battery has no charge… but if you plug it in for a few minutes you can teleport a few yards away to a higher place with a dry plug.
If you use a conventional cord, it will hang limp and will be below water before you can get the minimum charge… but the Quirky Pro stands tall and gives you the extra seconds you need to charge… and survive.
Recently got an email from the reconstituted (from bankruptcy) Quirky claiming they intend to relaunch a new idea submission site. It was a cool process, even if it smelled like they got too glamourous too soon. They even claim they’ll restart honoring the (small) royalty payments to inventors.
I love that deals pause. I checked when I woke up and still sleepy and thought brilliant idea, I’m going to buy these right at 8am.
Once I shower, eat, come to my senses I’m like; what a silly product that serves essentially no purpose. I can do the same with a simple velcro strap or just by wrapping a regular extension cord around something.
Can any extension cord engineers explain how the levitation magic on the packaging actually works? What is keeping that from just sliding down the table leg?
@P1h3r1e3d13 Friction? Adhesion? Some other physics thing… It’s gripping tight enough to support the weight. Same reason a can of beer doesn’t slide out of your hand when only gripping the sides.
@P1h3r1e3d13 Got mine today and that was the first thing I tried. I couldn’t get it to stay above floor level at all, there’s not enough friction to keep from simply falling down. I’ll try it out again tomorrow, but I think I’ll just have to settle for having a pair of weird looking extension cords.
Yes, you can wrap it around a table leg, but it won’t stay tight enough to hold above floor level without tape (or maybe a nail).
Seems like a well made simple extension cord and I can curl up the the tube to make it sit like a cobra (that’s kinda cool… no… not really). I’ll try it out at work this week and see if it has any hidden talents.
Overall, it doesn’t seem worth the price, so it’s a solid “Meh” purchase.

Quirky is what I look for in a partner, not an extension cord.
@norman8 I prefer kinky.
@eeterrific Zero to PG-13 in two minutes. Well done, meh.
@norman8 hee hee i burned ur house down, im so quirky
Make your purchases accordingly.
Extended sale… preparing you for income tax and filing your extensions…
for indoor use only?
@elpepe. For some reason I want these, but that is my question too. Clarification Meh?
@elpepe You can probably use it outdoors safely as long as it’s not raining or wet. Don’t use it in the bathtub with your toaster though.
@elpepe I promise, I won’t tell on you if you use it outdoors.
And I’d guess it won’t know the difference as long as you don’t douse it in water.

Can never have enough extension cords.
@cengland0 the world really needs to enable extension cord “breeding” technology! Imagine returning to your power cord storage and finding more cords than you left with some added hybrid characteristics. Now that would be innovation!
@mwarren the cords do have both male and female parts, so…
Not even meh. More like, huh?
@huja Exactly…I’ve racked my brain to come up with why this is better than an ordinary extension, and have come up with nothing…
Well now, there’s something that solves a problem that no one has.
@cinoclav If only it had a speaker . . . and a place to dock your phone.
@cinoclav this actually can solve the problem of having tabletop electronics with shorter cords. If you can wrap the plug near the top of a table you can save the cord length from the ground to your electronic device. Trade shows, catering events for heated serving. I think, anyway.

As much as I want these…I think i’ll do myself a favor and pass…
I guess three heads are better than one
That’s a wrap. Good night.
Could you please offer capybaras instead of these?
@lordbowen I try to make sure capybaras come up in casual conversation as often as possible. Just because. Thanks, meh!
Now if these were Kinky Wrap-around extension cords…rather than Quirky…
@eeterrific Sometimes the difference is just a couple of beers.
@mehcuda67 You mean I have to spring for beers? Now that’s quirky…
@eeterrific pretty sure you could use these for kinky purposes
A man can never have too many extension cords.

if these were 12 gauge wires i would buy, but it doesn’t say.
@jihiggs it is rated for 15 amps so I’m guessing 14awg. but I’m just guessing…
@tjamesturner at 9 feet it could even be 16. yellow usually means 12, but it doesnt advertise 12 and it seems kinda gimmicky, so i doubt it is.
@jihiggs hopefully someone at meh will slice one open and measure it
@jihiggs 16ga is typically limited to 13 amps, so as with @tjamesturner, I’m guessing 14ga also.
wire gauge???
@terrry Other sites say 14 gauge.
Shirley, the commetns will help me figure that think out.
And I think the image might have come from meh a nite or two ago-but it’s appropriate!

Wife and I both said “Heck Yeah!” Maybe I should get another pair. I think the hardware guys at work will like these.

I’ve never had the problem this seems to solve, so, I’ll pass. (I do like my power squids though…).
/giphy hard pass
@awk you need more problems.
@RedOak 99 problems but lack of a stiff plug ain’t one…

rohs?
@tjamesturner ROHS = restriction of hazardous substances. Basically, it’s made with less toxic stuff.
@tjamesturner @narfcake and pronounced RO-hahs
@tjamesturner Rodents of Huge Size (capybaras)
@mehcuda67 It’s Rodents of Unusual Size (ROUS). You might have time to edit!
@SSteve
I use the old “tie a knot around something with it” method instead of these new-fangled things.

@mediocrebot That’s no badger. Its a rare eastern striped capybara.
@mike808 …and similar to its cousin Honey Badger, it doesn’t give an eff either.
I will buy these if someone can give me ONE example of the problem it solves which cannot be solved by simply wrapping the cord around whatever.
@phatmass When you wrap regular extension cords around things they are flaccid. These, on the other hand, are erect. There should be no question.
@phatmass You have $14 too much in your bank account. Problem solved.
@RedOak What he said. Because your other hand is … uh … busy.
@phatmass
Your house is flooding. The water level is rising and you’re trapped. You’re panicking. Death is certain.

That’s all I can think of.
@phatmass it has a low profile plug that won’t unplug when you push a couch/bed against it. The kinky yellow shit is just bonus
What’s the deal with the capybara talk?
@jqubed Too many caipirinhas.
The black shielding discourages capybaras from gnawing on the cord
The nine foot length is a just enough extension for lots of scenarios. So no need to wrestle with longer cords.
And now I can throw away another couple of those crappy, unreliable, cheapass zip cord extension cords that were likely to burn down the house.
@RedOak Send them to me!
@RedOak Nine feet is perfect for hog-tying a capybara on the loose.
@trisk you’re not so fond of your house?
@RedOak Oh, they’re not going in my house…
@trisk
Wrap-around? How about $14 for a reach-around instead? Because I’m an Aristocrat.
@mike808 For $14 you’ll get a Quicky.
@awk Two of 'em!

@michaelahess I don’t know what the fuck that has to do with anything, but I applaud your efforts anyway. It’s better than capybara talk.
@warpedrotors nor do I. Guess the Giphy bot is currently in the gutter.
@michaelahess
@iggy71 “botty”?
@michaelahess i suppose the picture on the wall does look like two tortillas. Giphy is acceptable.
I could see using this item to provide an excellent location for lighting to create awesome GIF’s such as this. Relevant and spot on!
It seems that $7/ea is actually quite cheaper than Home Depot. But I’d rather not have any extension cords under 15 feet. Hmm.

Just saved $14, thank you pause feature.
Without proper wire gage listing [16, 14, 12] these extension cords are worthless.
@mjonczak It’s 15 Amp, so probably 14-Gauge. Hope that helps.
