@tightwad There's just two of us so I only have two plates and two coffee cups to clean each day. I just rinse them off and put them into the dishwasher and then turn it on once a week.

I don't want to fill up the entire sink with hot and soapy water just to wash a small amount of dishes each day. For efficiency sake, just do them all at once.

@JonT How is that possible if they have a lacquer coating? That means you and your liquid never touch the actual copper.

@Pamela They are selected by playing beer pong. (I don't really know.) But I am an avid Moscow Mule fan and have had it in many different drinking vessels and prefer solid copper mugs. They tend to hold the beverage at the right temp all the way through and I personally believe they enhance the taste and smell of the drink.

@xarous @JonT Jesus Christ, did anyone here not fail physics? Copper is a terrible insulator. It conducts heat better than almost anything. Sort by Thermal Conductivity and see what's at the end of the list. You know what's a good insulator? Fucking glass! If you want your drink to have a constant temperature all the way through try drinking from glass. I guess you could do worse if you make your mug from diamond or carbon nanotube. If you enjoy copper because you enjoy copper, that's fine. But don't try to spread some bullshit that copper is a good insulator.

@SSteve I was following along well enough for the cool rim on your lips logic, but yeah, if your goal is to keep your drink cool then pretty much any other material is a better option.

@SSteve but what you do is put the copper mugs in the freezer before you need them and then make your drink. Copper has a much better specific heat than glass so will keep the drink cooler.

@JonT For $6 a piece, i'll give them a try. Never had a Moscow Mule so i'll give that a try, or else i'll be drinking some other drank in my swag cup.

@SSteve Best vessel I have for keeping beverages cool is a glass mug made to look like it's made from a mason jar. Thick glass and a handle so you never touch where the beverage is. I loved them as a kid for drinking milk. I suppose I should try it with some sort of mixed drink.

@SSteve look, I don't know what your fancy physics are talking about but I do know that every damn time I've drank something out of a copper mug it stays a hell of a lot colder than glass. Normal glasses - ice melts and warms up the drink. Copper mugs? Ice sticks around a lot longer.

Have your physicist friends explain that.

@jjohns71 Actually it might be. You can put metal in the microwave. How many microwaves come with metal shelves in them? They just have to be thick enough to be able to handle the energy of the magnetron. So don't put crumpled up aluminum foil in it or a CD but a spoon should be okay. Forks have points on them and tend to spark.

@RedOak Seems to me it would take a hell of a lot of power to weld copper as it dissipates heat so quickly. I have heard that you can MIG copper using silicon bronze wire but that the color doesn't match (yellowish tint). I don't know if you could TIG it or not (you'd have to get a LOT of heat to get it to puddle) - maybe someone with more experience can offer a better answer.

@Pavlov if you zoom in tight on the joint using the "Ice Cold" photo, it appears to have some silver color, indicating they might be soldered similarly to "sweating" copper water pipes. (Not "welded")

@RedOak Plug or spot welded. If they are mass produced, place the cup section over a metal form (electrode -), clamp the handle in place (clamp being electrode +), and zap.
