Choose Wisely. (Or Don’t.)
If we were smart, we wouldn’t give you a choice between this Tacklife cordless drill and this Tacklife impact driver. Because most people out there have only the vaguest sense of when to use a drill and when to use an impact driver. And the Venn diagram of those who know how to use the proper one for the job and those who make impulse tool purchases on sarcastic daily deal websites is two circles across the street from one another.
So for now, we’ll just try to educate.
First of all, an impact driver is only considered an impact driver if it comes from the Impact region of France*. This makes it very important that you pay attention to the pedigree when evaluating what you’re buying. Otherwise, you’ll be at a tool tasting party with some neighborhood dads or whatever and some aging dude in white New Balances will scoff at you for using what they insist is technically just sparkling hardware.
But really, making the right choice between impact driver and drill is a great way to distinguish yourself as intelligent and worldly. It’s like knowing when to use “whom” in a sentence. The rule with that one is that you use “who” when it is functioning as the subject of the sentence and you use “whom” when you want to sound like a real asshole. This is why there’s a deleted scene in the grinch story where all the Whoms down in Whoville are sent to die of exposure on that nearby mountainside because they couldn’t shut the hell up about linguistic semantics.
The impact driver, like a pretentiously chosen “whom,” is the perfect way to demonstrate that you know a little something about DIY and that you have an extra special tool to bust out in certain vaguely specific circumstances.
Mostly, though, an impact driver is to a drill as a swift kick to the face is to a fairytale creature who asks tricky riddles before you can go through a magic door. It gets the job done just the same, just in a more brutally efficient manner.
You know what? Maybe just buy both.
