So. Much. Food.

Okay, so, the weekend before Thanksgiving, you have a Friendsgiving with one group of your friends. Then, on the actual day, your folks do the meal around lunchtime, which is perfect because it means you’ll be done by the time your spouse’s folks do Thanksgiving for dinner. The weekend after that, there’s the Friendsgiving hosted by your other friends.

The next Wednesday, there’s a holiday potluck at the office, and your spouse has a soup cook-off at their work on Friday. And your kids’ school is doing a bake sale, and the week after there’s a cookie exchange at your aunt’s, and, oh, don’t forget: your friends who belong to neither of the two Friendsgiving groups are coming over for lasagna, brownies, and some holiday cocktails that Friday night.

Or is it the same Friday as the soup cook-off?

Whatever.

Whichever Friday night it isn’t might be a good time for you and your spouse to test out some recipes for Christmas dinner. After all, your spouse’s sister hosted last year and made a big deal about some sort of goose preparation method that had been passed down from generation to generation of her husband’s family–which was a lie; you later googled around and found the recipe on a blog belonging to a canceled twenty-three-year-old influencer–so you’d really like to outdo them this year.

And, wait, when are the holiday parties? For your work, your spouse’s work, your one friend group, and your other friend group? Pretty soon, right? You’ll need to make something for those too.

What does all this add up to? Other than gastrointestinal distress?

Two things:

1. a whole bunch of ingredients; and…
2. A whole bunch of leftovers.
