I have a real love hate relationship with containers. Perfect for containing a meal and eating at work during a lunch break. But don’t you forget to clean it. You get real busy and forget there’s some food in those containers and they turn into stink bombs.
I’m always cleaning dishes and I had to protest to convince people to stop putting sealed containers filled with food into the sink. I was ready to start WW3 over this.
@AaronLeeJohnson This is why I bulk buy the takeout containers and then either wash them if I actually eat the leftovers … or toss the whole dang thing food and all in the trash if the leftovers go bad.
@TheStas Did you read today that “tiny plastic particles have been detected in the breath of dolphins”? NYT. We need to reconsider the amount of plastic produced, at some point.
I bought these the last time they were offered. The larger ones are useful. I use them for storing rices, sugars etc. the large tops are convenient for larger measuring spoons. I haven’t found much use for the small containers yet. I’m considering another set.
@goldnectar I’m with you. The smallest 2? are too small for anything. Maybe if I took my lunch to work I’d use if for salad dressing. Currently they’re in my pantry empty. The big ones i used for dry food storage.
We’ve snagged a few of these sets over time (here and elsewhere) and continue to be pleased with them (and find that this price for a set of eight is about the price for a mere two of the medium-ish ones at Bez-mart or Target).
We have about a dozen of them (in a few stacks) on the kitchen counter and my spouse loves the tiny ones because they hold the exact volume of ingredients for one cycle of her almond-milk-making machine, so she preps a dozen or so of those at one time and then – one at a time – makes almond milk over a day or two.
Long ago, we had an infestation of pantry moths and I would say that if you haven’t enjoyed that horror show, you may want to take any thin-plastic-bag (or cardboard-boxed?) food you have in the pantry (e.g., a bag of rice or a bag of flour) and store it in one of these that, apparently, pantry moth larvae can’t chew through.
@pyro008 Mine are the glass ones, which may be a factor. The rubber seals on the lids tend to stick to the glass, meaning a lot of force is needed to get them off. There are some fun posts online with folks trying to get Rubbermaid to sell them replacement lids, and Rubbermaid sometimes going as far as asking for torque ratings that were used to take the lid off to determine if it voided the warranty.
@dave, I know that’s how manufacturers list on the box.
For example, I bought a pots and pans set that listed number of pieces because some of the lids fit more than one piece, and therefore not every pot/pan came with its own lid.

Perfect for storing brilliance!!

@OnionSoup Aw, she looks much too sweet and innocent to be cleaning brothels.
Actually $66.99 at Amazon!

Thanks for not calling it a 16 piece storage set. Counting the lids separately never made sense to me
@ironcheftoni some Amazon reviewer was mad because they only received 8 pieces of their 16-piece set!
@TimW /image facepalm
@ironcheftoni FYI, “/image” (or any “/“ command) has to be on a line by itself.
I’m not thrilled with the canisters I have now, maybe these will be better.

if they were glass I’d be in for a couple, trying to stay away from plastic food containers
@TheStas Same. Done with traditional “Tupperware.”

Coincidentally, this https://www.woot.com/offers/chefwave-milkmade-non-dairy-milk-maker-4 is the almond-milk maker she uses!
Important to note that the lids on these tend to crack with normal use. Rubbermaid do not offer an option to purchase replacement lids.
@pikelet
I guess it depends on your normal use. I have about 25 of these with the oldest being 4 years and haven’t had any lid issues yet.

Wondered how they made it to Meh.
FWIW - in the product description it reads
1x Rubbermaid 2-cup Sugar Container
that should be 12-cup . . .
8 pieces? Does it not come with the lids?
@kittykat9180 It does, we just think most people don’t consider those separate pieces
@dave, I know that’s how manufacturers list on the box.
For example, I bought a pots and pans set that listed number of pieces because some of the lids fit more than one piece, and therefore not every pot/pan came with its own lid.
@dave @kittykat9180 you can’t please everyone! Someone above thanked you for saying 8 pieces instead of 16…so
Plastic, really?
Model 2108387 does include plastic containers. It’s weird to me that this word seems to be removed from marketing everywhere. Rubbermaid leaves it on on their own site: https://www.rubbermaid.com/food-storage/everyday-use-containers/brilliance/brilliance-pantry-food-storage-container-set-assorted-sizes/SAP_2108387.html
They sell glass models as well.
These are $5 less than when I bought them in June, dammit.
@Kyeh But you got to use them for 5 extra months.
@sammydog01 Except most of them are still sitting unused. I have used the largest ones.
