Routine

I’ve worked from home for a long time now. My hours are flexible. My days can be rearranged as needed to accommodate an appointment, or some errands, or what have you. I have a lot of freedom. And what do I do with all this freedom?

I impose routines upon myself.

I get up between 6 and 7 in the morning. I read for an hour or two. I work on some writing of my own. I work on some writing for the site. I go for a run. I work a bit more. I start getting dinner together. I watch some television or basketball. I read a bit more. Then I go to sleep, ready to start it all over the next day.

I cut myself some slack as needed, but mostly I try hard to maintain some semblance of structure. Because there is nothing worse than getting to four o’clock and realizing the exhaustion you’re feeling is the product of doing absolutely nothing. We’re talking a day so lazy you couldn’t even muster up the energy to enjoy the laziness of it.

All of this is to say, while I don’t personally have a skincare routine, I understand the allure of one.

First off, freshness is just a universally appealing thing. The smell of freshly ground coffee. The taste of a super fresh tomato. Laying down in some crisp, clean sheets. Taking a long shower after a grueling workout. It’s all amazing. And so the sensation of fresh, rejuvenated skin after a good peel or scrub or… souffle (?) would likewise feel great.

But moreover, I can understand the appeal of installing a checkpoint somewhere at the beginning or end (or at the beginning and end) of my day. Because it’s satisfying to complete a task, no matter how small and simple, and even if it’s for something just for you.

So maybe buy these skincare products and feel a little better.
