Yeah, it's a repeat.

Or re-repeat. Whatever. The times we’ve sold some kind of Ooma Telo VoIP doohickey all sort of blur together, for obvious reasons. Unless you’re looking for nearly-free calls to anywhere in the U.S., you’re not happy about it. We get that. Nobody’s happy about it. But here we are. What can you do about it? You’ve got two options:

You guys buy them all. No more repeats. If everybody reading this bought one, or convinced one other person to buy one, this problem would be eliminated in an hour. Already got one? Call your friends on your Ooma Telo VoIP phone system. Tell them about its almost nonexistent calling costs and flawless performance. They’ll get the message in crystal VoIP clarity and doubtless want one for themselves. Boom. Inventory eliminated. Problem solved.

Nobody buys a single one. No more repeats. You - the collective you - could eliminate the scourge of the Ooma Telo simply by getting together and agreeing to sit on your credit cards for the day. If we knew that selling these was equivalent to just closing up shop for 24 hours, we’d sell them for scrap. Or bury them in a landfill. Or recycle them into playground construction material.

Either way and the Ooma Telo monkey is off our back. But what’s probably going to happen is just enough people will buy it to keep it alive. Because in a classic Prisoner’s Dilemma, there will always be someone who wants (almost) free Internet-based phone service more than they want to relieve everyone else of the Ooma Telo burden. And especially around here, we can count on a bunch of VoIP enthusiast weirdos to keep the Ooma Telo ball rolling. It’s just too good for our own good.

As you can see, we’re locked in a prison of rational incentives. We’re bound by the ironclad laws of economics. As long as you insist on behaving like this, we have no choice but to respond accordingly, by running the Ooma Telo VoIP system again and again and again. You made us this way. If you must blame someone, start with the Meh in the mirror.
