@tightwad Madness. MK8 is fantastic. They really did a great job balancing skill and rubber-banding. Being in the top 2 or 3 during the last lap is no longer a death sentence, nor is it guaranteed victory.
@JerseyFrank To me MK and rubber banding go hand in hand as it should be a "basic" skill level racing game. If i want to play real racing games, which I do, I will choose a more "realistic" game and would prefer the skill of the opponent to reflect. I preferred the complexity level of the original MK over the newer versions, keeping it well out of the realm of "real" racing games.
@JonT Oh but you can. Those two games alone are worth it I say. Also Pikmin 3 is fantastic. And Super Mario 3D World is superb. And Mario Kart 8. 6 games seems like a quite a bit of incentive to me! =)
@tightwad uh... But can you throw shells at your competitors in these "real" racing games of yours? Whatever. I have an almost-complete Mario Kart collection and I love all of them.
@christinewas I am afraid you misunderstood...I love Mario Kart...very fond memories of the SNES version in college where our house competed for fastest times to 2 decimal places. The newer version just seem to be too flashy and complex, losing something the original had.
200 cc in Mario Kart 8 is insane. I can feel it literally raising my heart rate. Overall I think Mario Kart 7 is a better game, though. You can hold a second item while dragging one behind, motorcycles give a speed boost by doing wheelies, and the aggression level is harder in Mirror Mode than 150 cc, as it should be. Also, battle mode is possibly the worst it's ever been, and it seems to keep getting worse with every game they release.
@JerseyFrank There were still some decent battle tracks in Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Kart DS, and the Bob-omb Blast and Shine Runners modes were fun alternatives to the classic balloon battle. But yeah, it’s been a wasteland since then.
We've also had a lot of fun with the Mario Chase mini-game in Nintendo Land as a party game. It's basically like playing tag, or a version of Pac Man where the ghosts are people. It never fails to get people laughing.
For only 2 games? I’ve been playing COD Ghosts pretty much exclusively for 3 years now. Bought MK8 but don’t love it. So, ya, pretty much one game. Worth it.
Don’t get me wrong, Ghosts isn’t the end all game, but there’s something compelling about playing against other fallible humans rather than bots, and COD is really the only FPS option on WiiU. Tried Splatoon, didn’t love it. It’s too… Nintendified for me. Like the Disney version of a FPS.
I totally would if I had a Nintendo device of any kind. I love Smash Brothers so damn much but I can't justify a WiiU for just that and Splatoon.
@JonT Those aren't the only two games out for WiiU, ya know! There is also Mario Kart. That's the third game.
@Starblind Except MarioKart jumped the shark after the SNES version

@JonT Could you justify it as a wedding present to yourself?

@JonT It doesn't even have to be a present to yourself. I can't tell you how many gift registries I've seen with gaming systems on them. Go for it!

I always wondered who that one person that bought the Wii U was.

@jqubed The 1-item limit is one of the things I hated but learned to love. Battle Mode has been dead since N64. We can never step in that river again.

@jqubed Care to share your NNID? No pressure if you'd prefer not to.
@JerseyFrank Yeah, I’d rather not put it out on a public forum, sorry.
Really bad Smash/Mario Kart player here. WiiU= MrXarous

Mostly 3DS. I might get a WiiU once the prices really crash.
@PocketBrain I have a Wii U now! And Super Mario Maker. Anybody have any SMM levels they want me to proof? (posted from the WiiU)

Pretty sure my NNID is BruceOite
I need to fire up my Wii U more often. I had started up a game of Twilight Princess HD.
