They stole my idea, or at least the name that I've called Disneyland for the past 38 years!
I used to live near there as a young newly sprung adult. So all the family and friends that came to visit me just had to go to dismalland, as I came to call it.
Never had the pull on me that some folks have, like my "old married with kids" 37 year old daughter, who coincidentally is there for the weekend, just her and a like minded friend.
Yuck! They can keep it! Of course, I'd love to go see this new version...
@meow57 Living in Las Vegas had the same effect. Everyone from outside wants to go to the casinos. Woop-dee-doo. Except for some of the restaurants (and buffets) it just wasn't that interesting after living there so long.
@meow57 We don't have any kids and we've had season passes since 1988 or 89...
For fifteen years a bunch of us from all over the country met up in October. The last meet was 2013. It was time to wind down. None of us are rich and all of us are getting on in years.
Now we have cheap passes with limited visits, but that's okay.
@meow57 I lived in Anaheim for a few years and was a 5 minute drive from Disneyland. I was never one of those super huge Disney fanatics but I got a season pass because it was just something fun to do.
I was so close that I could go to the park and ride one or two rides, have a corndog and enjoy some of the best people watching available and leave whenever I wanted, especially if it was crowded.
I get the pushback against Disneyland, the people that are legitimately SUPER into Disney are pretty weird to me but it was fun to be able to experience the park whenever I wanted – especially when you consider a lot of the people there are there for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
One of the reasons we quit the meets was I was tired of all the prep work. Shirts, buttons, fun things to do, it was a lot of work and I was ready to quit.
For the years that we were all taking pictures, I'd request that copies were sent to me and each year I'd put together a DVD slideshow of the photos and the movies I'd taken, using various Disney music in the background.
For our last year, the shirts I made had this on the background. We also gave everyone posters of this graphic. It was made from all of the photos I had from the meets (over 8K). I think (it's been so long since I did this) that there are 1800 photos in this graphic. The software (http://www.andreaplanet.com/andreamosaic/) did a little enhancing, but not much. (If anyone is interested, you can find a large image at http://www.lisaviolet.net/gallery/picture.php?/892/category/129). Pinwheels were an integral part of the meet, we also wore pinwheel headbands, which were a lot of fun. In the last couple of years, I found a way to have a working pinwheel on our name buttons.
I love that it's called a "bemusement part". But I need to see the reflection of the statue in the first image.

@Ignorant The video shows it off a lot better than the pictures.
