Tom’s bio says his “fascination with vacuum cleaners started at a young age, and by the time he was 16 he had started his own collection.” Eventually he made a career of it as a vacuum cleaner salesman - presumably the most sincere one in the world.

It would be easy to laugh at Tom’s love of vacuum cleaners. And cheap. And lazy. And cowardly. Because a teenage boy who collects vacuum cleaners has more guts than most people ever will.
What the world needs is more constructive, sincere enthusiasm. More people who dig what they dig, no matter who else thinks it’s trivial or boring. More people who aren’t ashamed of their sense of wonder. More Tom Gaskos. Because it’s tragic to waste the few measly decades you have on this Earth afraid to love anything unless the cool kids say it’s OK.
