We’ll get to this generator/solar bundle in a minute, but first, we want to talk about something else: podcasts.

Specifically, podcast promos. You know how it is: you’re elbow deep in soapy water doing the dishes, listening to an exciting true crime story, or a hilarious roundtable discussion between a number of comedians, or an in-depth breakdown of NBA offseason moves–and that’s when it strikes, a five-minute ad for something you don’t want and don’t need. Most of the time, these promos amount to very little. Five percent off, maybe 10 percent off, something like that.

Every now and then, though, there’s one that catches your ear. A hundred bucks off your purchase! Two hundred fifty dollars! Amazing! And that’s how you know: whatever they’re selling is expensive as all shit.

We run into this issue ourselves sometimes. Take this Energizer Ultimate Powersource Pro Solar Bundle, for example. When we sold it for $599 last time, it was several hundred dollars cheaper than you’d find anywhere else. The only problem? It was still $599. And $599 is a lot to spend on a daily deal site that generally pedals in impulse buys.

Doesn’t matter that it would be useful in emergency and non-emergency situations. You see a price tag north of five-hundo, and even if you understand the utility, you’re gonna think, I want to make sure this is the one I want before I spend that much. Then what happens? You forget to do the research and the deal slips away.
