The gateway drone

So you want to get in on the quadcopter thing. You’ve heard about how insanely fun they are to fly, you’ve seen the flying-cam videos, maybe you’ve even logged a little flight time with one yourself. You’re ready to lift off and become a proud quadcopter owner.

Here’s the thing: at some point, you’re going to crash it. It’s not if, but when.

Now, if you bought that big fancy Inspire model for three grand, that crash would be a gross indulgence, like David Lee Roth and Kevin Eastman playing bumper cars with Jaguars and tanks. If you buy the Phantom 2 for $579, crashing it wouldn’t be insane, but would still hurt.

Today we’re here to take some of the sting out of that wreck. Since there’s no such thing as drone training wheels, earn your wings with the minimum viable copter, the cheapest drone worth flying. That would be this DJI Phantom 1. We bought up all the remaining Phantom 1 quadcopters out there, so if you want hi-octane, lo-risk quadcopter action, here’s where you get it. (There might be some tiny remnant batches left out there somewhere, but we’re beating their price anyway.)

All it needs is a charge and some minor assembly and it’s ready to take to the skies. Attach a GoPro (not included) via the camera mount to record aerial video. And you can configure its nav system to return to the point where it took off and perform other advanced awesomeness maneuvers.

Then, when you’ve mastered the Phantom 1, you’ll be ready for the expensive stuff. More than that, you’ll be hooked on the expensive stuff. You’ll need it. We just hope we can get our hands on some Inspire drones by then.
