@arutgers03 I'm only placing my comments here because this is the first msg: Does this item include charger and battery? It's not listed in "What's in the box?" I should but I want to confirm.
@ruouttaurmind - well it is enough to make me wait and see what the lightning deal is... I am in the market for this, probably just going to spend a little more for 2.0 at amazon
@tehtruth Banggood has the Walkera Scout x4 kit on a flash deal for $1,099 with free shipping. I was all set to pull the trigger on that when this popped up tonight. The Scout includes the Devo F12E TX, iLook+ wifi FPV system and Ground Control Bluetooth module, even retractable landing gear. It's a hell of a deal for only a couple hundred dollars more than a P2. But at $315 I'm going to poke at this P1 for a bit and tweak my ground station software skills before stepping up to the big dollars.
The thing is... I asked Meh to sell one of these a couple of weeks ago, so I kinda have to buy it, right? Well, technically I asked for a much lower price point, but... furious-fuzzy-pasta
@steigst Actually, yes, it will. The GoPro mount on the bottom can be removed and your GoPro hard case can be attached. The mount is compatible with the standard GoPro swivel mount.
@ruouttaurmind IMO, and our opinions may differ, but I don't see the need for the hard case . . . I crashed the hell out of my first one with a Hero 2 and a Hero 3+ without the hard case and never damaged the camera. Plus, if you use the hard case, you can't easily use a ND filter and you're risking more vibration, and hence more "Jell-O". You get better results without the hard case IME.
@Pavlov I defer to your expertise. The only knowledge I have of Phantoms is what I've been reading. Doing extensive research over the last few weeks trying to make a decision between DJI Phantom, Walkera QRX 350, 3DR Iris or Cheerson CX-20.
I have an FC40, which is (basically) this with a camera. A huge step up from toy quads, the GPS lock functionality is great. Just make sure you follow the procedures for calibrating the compass, make sure GPS is locked and a home point is set before takeoff, and this thing flies itself.
Yes there are better models out there, but for this kind of money if you're at all interested in quads or flying a gopro for video, you can't beat it.
DO NOT use gopro wifi with this unit, the control system operates on the same 2.4GHz band and you will increase your chances of a flyaway event.
I highly recommend this as an entry into the world of advanced quads.
Rlly. Selling it as a beginner model, but no guards or shrouds around those rapidly spinning blades of facial dismemberment? Or perhaps more succinctly: around those fragile pieces of rapidly spinning plastic required for it not to crash pecipitously?
@Fej The DJI demo video seems to show it streaming video to a phone. But, I can't find any other evidence that it can. So, I have the same question. If the answer is yes, what is the range of the streaming video?
@Fej You can, but you MAY increase the risk of a flyaway. Depends on the set-up you choose and how much you are willing to spend. If I wanted to stream live, IME, I'd buy a different model to begin with and save $$ in the long run.
We've got two of these first gen Phantoms, we fly the S1000 series now. This is a VERY decent price, and a great starter quad if you're in the market . . . and I paid a hell of a lot more for mine when they first came out ($780 each, B&H) . . . If you buy one, you're going to want to buy a good isolation mount to eliminate the "Jell-O" effect that your video will suffer from with this model. If you have the $$ pair this quad with the Zenmuse H4-3D gimbal. You can find several different styles of isolation mounts on eBay - don't pay more than $30 all in, and do NOT mess with the 3-D printed wire isolation mount unless you're handy with small parts and have the patience of a saint.
@Pavlov Any experience with the Chinese 2D gimbals available for around $50? Seems like a $50 gimbal might be a more suitable fit than a Zenmuse that costs more than this P1 that would be carrying it. ESPECIALLY for a beginner. Better to bang up that Chinese piece than a really expensive 3D gimbal.
@tentalces1349 FWIW, you can part this thing out and sell the bits for more than $315. In fact, I may just buy a second kit just for the battery and props and sell off the NAZA-M, TX and motors.
@stoopkid Not quite right but not completely wrong. I build quads for fun and you can get a comparable build with the same functionality but it WILL NOT be at this price point. The FC/GPS unit alone cost more than half of what this cost.
$60 APM 2.6 flight controller w/ GPS, $15 F450 frame clone, $10 landing gear, $140 Tiger Air Gear 350 (motors + escs + props), $20 battery, $30 charger, $70 Turnigy 9X. $345, better than this Phantom 1, but a tad pricier. Drop the Air Gear to some Emax motors and ESCs to shave off ~$50, and change the 9X to a cheap 6ch transmitter to save another $40. If you really want to pinch pennies, you could probably get all these parts off ebay from China for < $200. Of course, then you have to put it together yourself, and learn how to tune it properly (not rocket science, but it's not simple either). For some people, I think $315 is a perfectly reasonable price for a ready to fly quadcopter.
Those wondering how this compares to the DJI Phantom 2...
The main difference is the battery and flight time. Phantom 1 has a 12 minute flight time (more like 6 if you have a power hungry camera gimbal). Phantom 2 is about double, but the batteries are quadruple the price.
It is possible to rig 2 batteries on the Phantom 1, but this increases weight and decreases maneuverability and responsiveness.
@avidiax The battery alone is why I bought the phantom 1. You can buy a dual battery kit for $11. You end up mounting the battery outside and can get a little less than twice the flight time (drone is heavier with two batteries).
@donkeynuts agreed. We bought a simple UDI for the kid at Christmas. He loves it and I didn't have to worry about potential breakage. And after many crashes both indoors and out, we've yet to have any. Bought a couple batteries to take along. Each one lasts around 8-9 minutes. And the pictures aren't bad.
If this was 250 I'd jump on it but I know of one website selling hobby kits for 300$ that will put you into a quad that's slightly more capable but also has a autonomous GPS mode where you plot out waypoints and it does its thing without the controller
My friend has one of the Parrot drones, and it did sort of have training wheels. There was a foam piece you could fit around the rotors to protect them during collisions. Horizontal collisions, anyway.
It's especially useful if you want to fly it indoors.
Buy a cheap quad to learn on (and crash). You’ll save yourself a considerable amount of money and still learn the basics of flight. If you get good at flying a cheap heli or quad, then flying the Phantom should be a breeze with its stabilization and self-centering sticks. Just let go of the sticks and it should hover in place given a good GPS lock. Something like the Hubsan X4 H107L is a good starter quad. I bought an X4 after I started flying a Phantom 2 (now own 3 Hubsan X4 H107 models) to have something to fly in the house when there was bad weather in order to keep my hands on sticks. It’s a blast indoors and can even be flown outdoors in light wind.
@garyhgaryh Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I didn't even notice the battery/charger were not in the list of included items. You are correct, without those this is not a good price. How about it @JonT, can you check on that for us?
@JonT Thank you JonT! I just cancelled an order on amazon to get this deal, but I was worried I was too quick to jump on it. Thanks for checking - I feel good about this deal!
@JonT Thanks @JohT, I apprecaite the update. There are plenty of wholesalers out there who remove stuff like that and sell at a lower price, only to make up their margin on the accessory sales.
@askaboutasun Reasonably around $300, but if you're willing to wait for shipping from China, and maybe cut some corners and go for budget brands, maybe a bit under $200? A huge part of the cost is the transmitter ($30ish for some very basic options or $70+ for something decent), the battery ($20+), and the battery charger ($30+). Once you have those common parts, building just a basic quadcopter can be done for under $100. It's worth noting that the Phantom's transmitter isn't really reusable with other quadcopters, while any transmitter you buy with a DIY build will be very re-usable if you want to build additional quadcopters later.
@a13z I was thinking a Turnigy 9X at the $70 price point, though a Devo 7e wouldn't be a bad option either. The Taranis is obviously fantastic, but just not something I can reasonably recommend in a budget build ;)
@mgprokosch Transmitter (controller) is included. For FPV, you'll need a camera and video transmitter on the quadcopter, and a video receiver and display of some sort (screen, goggles) on the ground.
@garyhgaryh No worries... many of us strive to punch that Meh button every day. My current record is 139 meh button clicks in a row, but several others here have much, much better records.
@garyhgaryh there is no way to un-meh a meh, but don't worry too much because we don't really use meh clicks to measure when people don't like a sale, it's a lot easier to use the "amount of these things that didn't sell" stat to do that.
I fought myself for too long about getting this.. Such a great price.. but it is alot of money still.. But i was just saying I wanted one!.. But I was looking at a new video card.. I will get the money back next paycheck.. I'll break it first flight.. Ohhh its soo tempting!! Deep breathe..... thinkable-waiting-gecko
@SillyEmily I finally gave in and got it after watching the review of the phantom 2 , and convincing myself that with the zenmuse h4-3d, a gopro 4, maybe some battery mods, and some good diy advice from a forum somewhere, I could get the same stunning footage from this cheaper phantom. First though, I'm going to learn to fly this confidently, and then I'll look at picking up the zenmuse and gopro4. My local craigslist is amazingly full of them.
@bubbajudge Oh yes, Im watching alot of reviews and basic flying videos. I already have a GoPro 4, so its great it comes with the adapter! Starting small, get attachments later!. I'm excited!
Hey, was checking in here to see activity post yesterday's sale - hoping to see some community tips shared for getting started with the DJI Phantoms.
I also checked in on inventory status for these - it's going to be few days before they go out so I'm proactively upgrading shipping from Smartpost to Ground.
Lastly, there's announcements coming from DJI tomorrow on the Phantom 3 and they have a live feed here. We don't have a Meh chatroom set up but if there's interest in watching as a group we can try to find one.
@ruouttaurmind no, Texas has a drone law that has penalty if you receive a privacy complaint and have already published video. Plus my videos are pretty lame so far.
If anyone is interested I have Brand new in a box DJI Phantom 2 V1 for sale $400 for anyone here. I am going to be putting them up on Ebay with a $500 Buy it now price in a few days
@Seadog I have 5 units coming in. I will reach out to you as I get them. . I have auction starting tomorrow night with the buy it now price at $550 which is cheap. You can email me at big_frank@netzero.net with your contact info. I will call you the day they get here.
@Seadog No, not at all, Sorry for the confusion, $400 for anyone that responds from Meh. I have 2 sold already and 1 going up for Auction tomorrow night. That leaves me with 2 units that I can part with now.
Ok. I have to say it. I keep reading this topic as DUI phantom 1 quad copter with GoPro. Somehow I think that may be a short and disastrous flight. Also not so phantom.
@sohmageek If this is your first drone, do yourself a favor and go buy a cheap one to learn on. Syma x5 c is a nice easy to fly quadcopter that you can get for about $60
I'm so excited about this purchase.. when will it ship? I already bought a dual battery kit, longer lets, extra batteries, isolation mount. Now I'm looking for a fpv kit and a 2-axis or 3-axis gimbal. I'm gonna trick it out.
@garyhgaryh Nice! I have been eyeing stuff all over the web. Trying to decide what to get, I have read mixed reviews on the dual battery thing. Did you buy the one off of Amazon? I think I might get a cheaper gimbal to start and then upgrade to a Zenmuse sometime later
@twall y'all should be careful since some of this stuff works on one version and not others, especially props. I've been putting a list together, but not ordering until I know exactly what version we're getting (hopefully 1.1.1, but whatever)
@garyhgaryh I ordered one of these lightweight Chinese gimbals. It's designed for GoPro but I'm hoping to use it with my Vivitar HD action cam. I paid a bit more for the lightweight version, but the basic gimbal can be had for about $42 shipped from China. @geezfools, this one is self-contained so all you need is power and it takes care of the rest. Compatibility is not an issue unless you want to control the pitch from your transmitter. In that case there's a whole host of caviats where versions start to cloud compatibility.
@ruouttaurmind I saw the same one for $39. I cancelled my order, but th order is in process. If it goes through I'll keep it, if it gets cancelled, I'll order the $39. There's also a 3 axis gimbal for $180 that is suppose to be pretty good. I'll upgrade to that if I don't like the 2-axis product. My copter is arriving next week friday. Can't wait.. too bad it's gonna take almost a week to get here. I though they upgraded the shipping lol.
@ruouttaurmind I think they all work with just power alone. My goal is to get the pitch working so when I get the fpv kit, I can control the camera and get downward looking shots.
@garyhgaryh Pitch control on the Phantom is a bit of a complicated matter. We'll know more once our Phantoms show up and we can tell for sure how they're equipped. But we may be looking at a $70 upgrade board if we want pitch control to work. On top of what we've already paid for the gimbal and Phantom it may not be worth it.
@garyhgaryh If we get P1 v1.1.1 and Naza-M v2 it should be plug-n-play. In this video, Stephen Hawking shows how he installed one on a Phantom 1 that's clearly marked 1.1.1 on the bottom mfg label.
@ruouttaurmind I was looking to buy the pitch control lever last night. It looks like if we get the latest p1 it includes this. Almost like getting the p2 w/o the battery and the 9in props.
@garyhgaryh Mine won't be here until Friday. But here is my thought. These shipped from NY, so they are being drop shipped instead of directly from Meh. So if they bought them from a DJI dealer, the only one around Buffalo, NY is No Limit UAV. I checked their site but they do not list the version of the phantom 1 they are selling.... Looks like we will have to wait until these start to arrive on our doorsteps!
@twall Are you california or west coast? Mine is arriving Friday and that's where I'm located. Seems like DJI is based in LA in the US so my hope it came directly from DJI with the latest updates are now low :(.
@garyhgaryh Salt Lake actually. It seems like they are traveling UPS ground. After seeing the new 3DRobotics drone they unveiled yesterday it makes me wanna sell the DJI and buy it...
So has anyone got one yet? I'm still a week out being in Washington and all. Someone spill the beans on version number so I can order up some goodies :)
@garyhgaryh The Boscam 5823 has 32 channel capability and 200mw output for about $20 on eBay. As far as a receiver, that's where I'm conflicted. I guess it makes sense to use one of the Chinese 7" display/receivers, but I'm considering going a bit of a different route. I have a Toshiba 10.1" Windows tablet so I'm thinking about using that for my display paired with the Boscam receiver through a USB input like the EasyCap DVR. My near vision isn't that great so I don't think gogles will be a good option for me. Having the bigger 10.1" display would be a good option, plus I'll have a PC available if I need to plug into the Phantom and access the DJI ground station software in the field. There are tons of prefab brackets for attaching an iPad to the DJI TX, so it'll be a relatively clean installation I think.
@ruouttaurmind I'm getting the 600mw version for a tad under $70, although one guy said the 600mw version is no better than his 200 mw boscam he was replacing. I got a display for $30 on amazon so I'm going that route. I have a windows tablet as well which I thought about using. How much is the easycap dvr stick?
@garyhgaryh The EasyCap DVR stick was $6.29 including shipping. It came from China, but only took about 10 days to arrive. Includes software to record whatever video you're feeding it too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/111622221095
@garyhgaryh Well, I guess it's not really either of those. More resembles the original than the sparsly populated PCB on the right. But then it was six bucks including shipping, so I wasn't expecting much more than a reverse engineered Chinese copy. LOL!
@ruouttaurmind Yours looks well made. I realize I can just use my ION Video 2 PC system if I want to use my PC tablet w/ 10.1 in screen. Let me know how the easyCap works. I will be getting my 7in monitor tomorrow. I'll post a picture after I get it.
@ruouttaurmind 12 volts (but range is 8-14 volts). I'll be using a spare lipo to power it. I will be putting either an xt60 or JST-XH plug on it so it'll plug into the phantom batteries with no mods. In fact, if you don't care about the size, you can buy a 2000mah+ battery with the correct plugs for about $10.
@garyhgaryh Excellent idea to make a plug adapter and use the same batteries. I'm all about the crossover equipment. You can power your receiver from the same battery. Maybe a JST plug for receiver and XT60 for the monitor and you're in business!
@garyhgaryh Thanks for sharing pictures of your goodies with us! Haha, but did you just get the normal DJI Prop guards off the DJI site? Did you get the Phantom2 ones or the FC40 ones? I have been reading quite a bit about props. Everyone says buy authentic props, where did you get yours? Are they the 9 inch ones?
@twall I purchased a mad dog battery, that fits without modification. I bought props from readymaderc, some self locking 9" by DJI and some low cost carbon versions to try out since some people love 'em, other do not. After I experiment with all of those, we'll see which direction I go. I still don't have a good way to balance them, but I'm sure I can rig something up where I work.
Yeah, backup props and carbon props. Will keep it simple with the batteries at first, but I don't forsee myself hacking the door or anything to go super large. gimbal/fpv will happen. Though the main issue is, if it's the very first gen, I may end up just reselling and buying a 1.1.1 from elsewhere since I'm not interested in doing the board upgrade and all that. I dunno, we'll see when it gets here. There is also a phantom 2 option and now even the girlfriend is talking about a phantom 3 after we get back from hawaii, so honestly, I don't even know, haha
@geezfools I'm going to get the 4000mah multistar battery and try to fit it in the battery compartment by enlarging it. I also ordered the dual battery setup but I heard handling sucks w/big-heavy batteries. One guy is running dual 4000 multistar batteries and getting over 20 min flight time. I'm almost sure we're getting v1.1.1 if it's coming from DJI stock.
@garyhgaryh Have you seen this guy's video with the 3 battery setup? Says he got over 20 min. flight time. But from appearances, the thing flies like a dumptruck and is particularly "gravitationally enhanced" (being sucked down like a lead balloon!).
@ruouttaurmind I have not seen this one.. pretty smart using the landing legs to hold the batteries. He would be better off using the 9" blades for more lift. It's funny how fast his phantom drops when he lets off..
@garyhgaryh The weight seems to add to the stability of the platform though. Looks rock solid in hover mode. I can't imagine all that weight is good for the motors or power system though. I was waiting for it to burst into flames from the power load! LOL!
Just picked up two of these batteries after doing some research. Figured I'd post it here. Hoping mine ship today and get here by Friday so I can have a little more flight time. Still can't believe no one has gotten one and can post here with the version number. I'm sure most of these are getting flipped, but still... http://www.2dogrc.com/mad-dog-2700-mah-11-1v-25c-dji-phantom-li-poly-battery-w-xt60.html
@geezfools I grabbed a couple of the Black Magic 3000mAh bricks. I read good things about them and they will fit the Phantom and my CX-20 without mods. About the same price ($29.29) but will take about three weeks to arrive. http://www.gearbest.com/multi-rotor-parts/pp_171923.html
@geezfools Right after I bought this quad, I won an auction on ebay for a used one that came with a phantom, 6 batteries, gimbal, dji 5.8 uplink/downlink for fpv, and a gopro 3 black. I paid for that one ($470)and tried cancelling this but they said it was too late. Then the next day I found a local craigslist guy selling a DSLR PRO aerial edition phantom 1 for 500. Came with phantom 1, gimbal, gopro 3+ black, a $200 case, 6 batteries, T motors upgrade, OSD, FPV with monitor, 6 batteries, T8FGS radio (worth $600 new). I got the whole thing for $500. So now I have 13 batteries to go along with my new phantom. Just gotta sell 2 used phantoms :D
@geezfools Thank you! It's good news. To get tilt you only need to connect one wire from the gimbal. The remote takes care of everything else. This is a great buy. Add $60 for a gimbal and you have a professional photography drone platform. There isn't much of a difference in video stability between a 2-axis vs a 3-axis gimbal. (Oops this is act a reply to @man1986).
@sportykev Ya, the basic brushed metal ones can be had for as little as about $45. I spent a few extra bucks and got a ligher weight version of the brushed metal ones. You can get into a carbon fiber chinese one for aroud $70ish or so.
@sportykev I initally ordered the 2 axis gimbal from amazon for $60. It's known to work on the phantoms, but ruouttaurmind just had to mentioned that he got a lightweight one so I cancelled my order and got a similiar one to his. In anycase, most of the gimbals will just work with power applied (you can add your own battery or use power from the phantom). You only need to connect it electrically to the phantom if you want remote tilt (which I def. want since I will be adding fpv). Anyone know if googles add to the experience with fpv? I saw a video of a guy using one and it looks fun.
Instructions are terrible! The website has even misspelled "inonvations". Though, can't wait to fly this. The software keeps saying firmware upgrade needed, even though the current version is the latest.
@garyhgaryh If you're going to add something that requires CAN-Bus (i.e. Bluetooth Data Link), it makes sense to go that route. But if you don't have an immediate need for a CAN port, the iOSD won't do anything to improve your Phantom experience.
@ruouttaurmind I really want the OSD display of data. It might not improve the experience, but it is darn nice to know what's going on with data that's in your face. :)
@garyhgaryh Agreed. It's nice to have access to the telemetry info. Plus, in the unlikely event your Phantom goes Skynet on you, you'll have at least it's heading and last GPS coordinate which can be helpful in locating it when it falls from the sky.
@garyhgaryh For a couple extra bucks to get it in two days? Heck ya. Instant gratification! LOL! How much does your monitor weigh? Will it be unweildy on the TX? I was thinking about going with a tripod mount for my tablet.
@ruouttaurmind The monitor is very light. Imagine an oversized GPS - those things are light. I wish I had a scale to weigh it. I might just buy one since I want to weigh everyting ncluding my bike parts. :)
@garyhgaryh I don't know if they're still doing it, but Stamps.com used to have an offer where they'd send you a free digital scale and $10 in free postage for trying their service. The nice thing is the scale continues to be useful LONG after the free postage ran out. LOL!
@ruouttaurmind Wow, I'd go for that deal if it's still available. I bought one a few years back (scale that weights in grams), but I have no idea where it is.
@bigfrank What are the real benefits of the 2 over 1, outside of longer flight time with the larger cap battery? Tempting, I'm in your neighborhood but figured learning to fly on the v1 makes more sense, depending on how much of a deal this v2 winds up being.
@sportykev , the Phantom 2 has 9 inch props the Phantom 1 has 8 inch, Remote is also bigger and I believe the Phantom 2 is also slightly bigger. 25 minute flight time on the Phantom 2 with extended distance. If you live near me, you can come by to look at it
@bigfrank the 9 in blades are good upgrades to the phantom 1. I ordered a set (genuine) and should get longer flight times with it and better lift. If you look on youtube there is a guy that ran a test between multiple props and the 9in genuine prop came up top two. Forget about the carbon fiber ones - once they chip (easily chipped compared to the non CF props) they become unbalanced - time for new set.
anyone want to buy a zenmuse H3-2D gimbal? I have a used one for sale that came with one of my phantoms I bought on ebay. Going to sell that phantom separately from the gimbal. Also have some FPV stuff if anyone is interested. Asking $130 + shipping for the gimbal. It will work with tilt control on your radio.
It's been dead around here. Here's the latest item that I got today for the phantom we ordered at meh.com. 1 more day before I get the phantom, but it looks like the last update from ups was in IL (state).
@garyhgaryh I had to order new rotors for the hexacopter tonight (too many switches on the Devo F12e = FML!). I added a FPV TX to my order. 200mw for about $15 with free shipping:
@garyhgaryh I'm hoping to figure out how to bind my Devo F12e TX with the Phantom. It has integrated FPV receiver/monitor plus video out. The plan is to use the F12e TX to control Phantom and receive video, then link the output to my Toshiba tablet and use the EasyCap software to record the FPV images. The camera I'll be using will also be recording, but the image on the Toshiba will have telemetry info in the display as well.
@garyhgaryh do you have a separate camera for the FPV or are you going to use a GoPro? Also where did you get your monitor for your FPV kit? Maybe you already covered that somewhere, I just hope I hook all my stuff up correctly!
@ruouttaurmind Looks pretty bad ass. How do you like your h500? I read they suck for the majority of people but others have gotten good ones that fly well.
@garyhgaryh Sorry for all the questions! I am just a bit overwhelmed with all of the options we have on these bad boys. So if I use a GoPro and that monitor, what else do I need to get the FPV up and going? I know I am sure I can google that stuff, but it sounds like you know your stuff and I would rather ask you directly if you don't mind
@garyhgaryh RE: Tali H500. The quality of materials and workmanship is far and away superior to anything I've flown. I haven't owned a DJI, so I'm anxious to do a comparison, but it's far superior to the Symas and the Cheerson. I'm curious to do a position hold comparison between the Cheerson, Phantom and Tali. Once I get the Phantom I'll be able to put them all next to each other in a hover and see how they act.
@twall You'll also need a battery to power your ground station (display and receiver) with the appropriate cabling and connectors for each one. @garyhgaryh was inspired when he suggested he'll be using the same kind of battery the Phantom uses.
Woke up not feeling well, too much going on work to call out sick, but maybe I'll take an early day. Oh wait, it's the girlfriends birthday, not sure if she'll be happy with me drooling all over this. You guys have fun now, I'll check back in tomorrow, hahaha
The 2 people that wanted them from here did not email me back so, Sorry to say I sold the other 2 for $500 each. If anyone is interested you can still bid if you like.
BUYERS BEWARE, Big Frank does not keep his promise related to selling you products. He just sold the copter promised to me even though I emailed him and provided my contact data. His word means nothing when money is involvded.
@garyhgaryh I would normally agree, but I received an email from him indicating I could bid on them via the auction, but he could no longer honor the $400 price he promised in this tread (see above)
@Seadog I offered 2 at a great price. After 2 days of not hearing back what was I supposed to do wait . One guy wanted to see a picture which I sent the other did not get back to me until after I said sorry to late. They were getting it as a gift for what they were paying.
@garyhgaryh I am sorry Frank but if I had heard back from you after I emailed you that I had them yours would have been in the mail by now. I will still honor you a good deal, but I have to pull an auction and I would ask for slightly more than we had agreed upon.
@bigfrank You might want to check the accuracy of your information before posting something bogus. You emailed last night at 8:31 stating they had arrived and you could ship them as soon as today. I emailed you this morning at 10:41 and then received a reply from you stating you would no longer honor the price and I would have to bid on them via the auction. So yes I am real and obviously don't appreciate those who don't honor their word. Good luck in your auction!
@Seadog I called you. I guess you found the email from 2 days ago. It would have been nice if you admited you made a mistake rather than trying to make me look bad.
@garyhgaryh Telemetry can help to some degree. If you've got a signal and you're receiving telem data you can view GPS coord where it's at. If you've lost your signal, you can use telem historical data to establish last known location and heading/speed to make a guestimate where to start your search. Also, I put a label on all of mine with my phone number and "Reward if found". But the best rule is not to let it get out of line of sight. ;-)
@ruouttaurmind So jealous, I had to go back to work to finish up a marketing campaign for the weekend. What camera is that? Im stoked to see the footage!
@twall That's my cheap-o Vivitar 787HD. It was inexpensive, but takes decent video and has a dashcam mode which inverts the image so I can mount it upsidedown on the gimbal without having to use a GoPro style mount. Just a screw in the tripod hole on the bottom of the camera. It weighs about half of a GoPro and cost 80% less. So like the cameras on Meh the other night... if something happens to it... no big. Oh... plus it has a built-in touchscreen LCD for reviewing vids in the field.
@ruouttaurmind Oh nice! I actually picked up one of those cheap Midlands on Meh the other night. I was hoping it would be here, but it looks like it won't be until Tuesday. I am nervous to fly this thing, I just know I am going to crash it...
@twall Crashing is part of the deal. Why do you think they gave you TWO sets of rotors? LOL! I do recommend prop guards if you haven't already considered it. One of the most common prop-eaters is tipping on landing. Guards will keep you from destroying $100 in rotors before you perfect your style. Take 'em off later if you like, but I encourage them until you get used to it. Plus... it helps a little in case you come a bit too close to an arm or finger or face (been there, done that).
@ruouttaurmind 5:22pm and mine still hasn't shown! Phantom 2 props showed, but nothing the actual phantom. Which, I suppose is a good thing since it would be sitting on my porch otherwise and I don't need it to go missing from some eager passerby.
@twall@ruouttaurmind Thank you two for posting pictures. I haven't gotten my package yet. I went out for a run hoping to see a box in front of my door but none to be seen and it's almost 4pm. You guys are making me anxious getting my package.. lol.. thanks again guys.. How are you guys posting your images? Are you using a hosting service?
Head on over there to talk about everything drone-related including your gimbals, whozits, and whatnots.
All the cool gorillas are doing it.
Obviously if you have a customer support issue or problem specifically related to this sale feel free to post here, but for all other things drone (and not just the DJI phantom, all makes and models of drones) go ahead and post in the new thread.
The manual says, before you fly, hook up the Phantom to Naza assistant, update firmware, blah blah blah. For me, doing this unbinded the transmitter (controller) from the receiver (phantom), causing the Phantom to blink yellow forever (no transmitter detected). Other instructions tell you to open the Phantom up and press the link button. This video I found on YouTube showed me the easy way, and it worked. Hope this helps anyone who has run into this same problem. (I haven't even gotten to fly it yet because of this!!)

luxury meh?
@arutgers03 I'm only placing my comments here because this is the first msg: Does this item include charger and battery? It's not listed in "What's in the box?" I should but I want to confirm.
@garyhgaryh As stated below, it does ship with the charger and battery.
@garyhgaryh if they weren't listed as included before, they are listed now.
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
@jrwofuga No Pumpkin color :(
I want this... Too expensive, Meh.
I want it, I don't need it, it's way too expensive, but I did just get a new credit card. Rent or this...Can I live in it?
Very Cool?!
The first drone I see tonight....
I wish I could, I wish I might....
Have the wish I wish tonight....
Nope, $315 didn't show up. Wishing and hoping....didn't work in this case.
Ick, meh.
no pics of controller? how do we fly it?
@kfs279 you'll have to wait until tomorrow's deal if you want a controller
lmao
oh man.. I wish I could afford one of these - wow what a deal - too bad I cant use Amazon credit to purchase here
@jmhsrv it's on sale new at Amazon for 350.
I want cheap junk, meh! No more of this deeply discounted, yet still expensive, quality stuff
@mbills2223 at least it keeps another box out of my mail man's truck. I'm sure he's happy.
Wow! Not even refurbished!
Assholes you are... had to do this the day after I blow my wad at WonderCon
@Squid_07 yeah they are still cleaning that up. Yuck!
@Ignorant I did warn to watch your step... but you chose not to listen
Version 2.0 of this is a lightning deal tomorrow... er, today.
@tehtruth At a significantly higher price point though, I'm sure.
@tehtruth are amazon lightning deals ever good? I'd probably buy V2 at $350 but I dont think it will be that price.
Why am I seeing it for $349 on Amazon?
@phatmass that's currently the lowest 3rd party seller's price.
@phatmass yup. Seeing $350 here too
@phatmass Also can be had on eBay around that price. So basically you save 10% if you buy here, and you'll be sure it's new and not a refurb.
Too expensive for my taste... meh.
Oh I do wish we could swing it. We bought the kid a simple one with photo to a micro SD and we all love it.
Sooo tempted to do a pre-sleep impulse buy with just the touch of a button...gotta sleep on this and hope stock dries up to save me the money
The thing is... I asked Meh to sell one of these a couple of weeks ago, so I kinda have to buy it, right? Well, technically I asked for a much lower price point, but...
furious-fuzzy-pasta
@ruouttaurmind heh me too, I just bumped that thread
@ruouttaurmind I just want to know if it includes a battery and charger.
@garyhgaryh no, that's tomorrow's deal
Wow, the write up claims these will sell out. I'll be back at 11:59 to see. Hard to believe it.
@njd Not too hard if they only have about 50 :P
Do want, would like, can't afford. Not Meh (but I'm clicking it anyway).
Too. much. Money. meh x 2 to the ten millionth
Will this support a GoPro 4?
@steigst Yes on weight (obviously), you'll have to modify the carriage. You can use drummer's moongel damper pads and it'll hold the 4.
@ruouttaurmind I've had nothing but good experiences with DJI. Not flown the Cheerson, hated the Walkera (poor control, 2 fly-aways).
over or under 100 sold in 24 hours?
@xEBRONx Over, that is if they have that many in stock.
@twall you win!
@JonT What do I win? Extra TX air with my DJI when it ships, or maybe just maybe a speaker dock??
@twall you win the satisfaction of being right, so nothing!
@JonT at least I can tell my wife I am right!
Over 14 reports on Amazon of it just flying away for no reason. Seems like an expensive risk, especially if you have a GoPro attached.
@webender Most flyaways can be attributed to operator error. Usually related to incorrect pre-flight configuration.
@webender Never had a single flyaway and have logged hundreds of hours on these . . . Most all flyaways are operator error in pre-flight.
@webender Its the NSA stealing your GoPros...
@webender They were probably called away for emergency taco deliveries.
@webender Amazon needed it to make a delivery
@PhysAssist You can buy the guards cheaply aftermarket, but they aren't a huge help. You're still going to eat props until you get the hang of it.
Is this why you wanted where people lived in the Dallas Fort Worth area? They are going to have a drone delivered to them for free?
But can you stream video from it?
@Fej The DJI demo video seems to show it streaming video to a phone. But, I can't find any other evidence that it can. So, I have the same question. If the answer is yes, what is the range of the streaming video?
@Fej @bfg9000 This model can be upgraded to stream video, but it is not part of the basic functionality.
@Fej You can, but you MAY increase the risk of a flyaway. Depends on the set-up you choose and how much you are willing to spend. If I wanted to stream live, IME, I'd buy a different model to begin with and save $$ in the long run.
@Fej You'd need to have an FPV transmitter on the 5.8GHz band to not interfere with the 2.4GHz control channels. And a gopro or other camera.
So yes, but not out of the box.
throws tax return money at this thing weee!!!
If you have the $$ pair this quad with the Zenmuse H4-3D
gimbal. You can find several different styles of isolation mounts on eBay - don't pay more than $30 all in, and do NOT mess with the 3-D printed wire isolation mount unless you're handy with small parts and have the patience of a saint.
Have fun!
@ruouttaurmind I hear really good things about those gimbals (for the price). But I haven't tried them yet.
@stoopkid I just ordered one on eBay so I'll know sometime between 4/16 and 4/20! :-)
@ruouttaurmind This is the only other gimbal I've used with a Phantom - http://bit.ly/19XbSvh
After months of researching these guys, this price was just too good to pass up on my first quadcopter. I just hope it doesn't fly away on me....
different-gregarious-playground
same for $350 on amazon DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Drone (as stated by @phatmass) and ebay DJI Phantom RC Drone?
Sorry Meh, not enough deal for me, although I do have a serious nerd boner for these.
@tentalces1349 FWIW, you can part this thing out and sell the bits for more than $315. In fact, I may just buy a second kit just for the battery and props and sell off the NAZA-M, TX and motors.
@ruouttaurmind Hmmm... Interesting idea. Time to research parts sales.
@ruouttaurmind dont get me wrong, not saying this isn't a deal, just not enought of a deal for me.
Or build one yourself for less that performs better and is actually repairable.
@stoopkid Details, this statement is meaningless without details.
For some people, I think $315 is a perfectly reasonable price for a ready to fly quadcopter.
that's way too much for an impulse buy meh.
@boygenius1991 sleep on it.
@Ignorant That'd be uncomfortable, and could break it.
What do WMD, the Surge, and drone all have in common?
Military terms that meant one thing, and were later corrupted by lazy journalists into a new meaning that became the more popular meaning.
Not sure which one bugs me the most.
$349 on Amazon.
Cool but can't justify the price. Wishful thinking, if it had a GoPro included it would be a no brainer:)
What use would I have for this flying thing? I do have $300.00 and I need some dirt. I guess I will spend my 3 hundred on some dirt.
If I hadn't JUST bought a quad I would have picked this up. Maybe I need two?
Don't only creeps buy stuff like this? Maybe not?
@aradem Yes, now look out your bathroom window and wave.
@donkeynuts Lol
For post-production, SharewareOnSale had ProDrenalin for free, but I think the sale has expired.
Not really "pro" software, but it looks useful.
Seriously though, you can grab a super-cheap quad on Amazon for under a hundred bucks that includes a 720p camera. That's the thing to learn on IMHO.
@donkeynuts I bought this - and a Syma X5C-1 to "learn" on. Good advice - thanks!
Be sure to get blade guards or full-on cages. One training mishap near an obstruction and you may as well have thrown your cash in the trash.
"And you can configure its nav system to return to the point where it landed..."
Wait, what? I've got nothing creative or funny to say there, other than I think you meant, "took off". Or that nav system is the off button.
@stinks "FIVE stars!!! I find it where it landed every time!!!1111oneoneone"
@stinks I'd say that's 100% reliability there! If the GPS takes it to the point where it landed then the GPS is working at 0% error rate, innit? LOL!
If this was 250 I'd jump on it but I know of one website selling hobby kits for 300$ that will put you into a quad that's slightly more capable but also has a autonomous GPS mode where you plot out waypoints and it does its thing without the controller
@msujp link?
@djslack i dont know if meh would get mad but its not hard to figure out if your a HOBBY royalty or KING
@msujp no one is going to get mad if a link is relevant to a better deal. That's not like spamming.
Thanks for the heads up.
lolz - 40 sold before Amazon Gold Box only knocks $50 off the Phantom 2. 20 more sell in next 10 minutes.
My friend has one of the Parrot drones, and it did sort of have training wheels. There was a foam piece you could fit around the rotors to protect them during collisions. Horizontal collisions, anyway.
It's especially useful if you want to fly it indoors.
@darksaber99999 there are prop guards you can get for this drone too.
@darksaber99999 Or, since it can't carry a beer, cut up the beer cups better drones can carry and put them around the props.
@editorkid So far, 184 people didn't notice this can't carry a beer…
@brhfl Even if it could carry a beer, can it open a fridge? Because I don't drink warm beer.
What's in the box does not include charger and battery? If so, then it's not worth $315+5shipping.
@garyhgaryh Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I didn't even notice the battery/charger were not in the list of included items. You are correct, without those this is not a good price. How about it @JonT, can you check on that for us?
@garyhgaryh @ruouttaurmind just confirmed that it does come with a battery pack and charger. Obviously.
Yeah I agree $50 cheaper and you would unload them like ice cold water in the desert I think possibly overload your servers with people buying!
So how much would it cost to make a quadcopter like this, in materials?
@kyzen Does a Deviated Devo 7e count as something "decent"? Or did you have Taranis or something else in mind?
@a13z I was thinking a Turnigy 9X at the $70 price point, though a Devo 7e wouldn't be a bad option either. The Taranis is obviously fantastic, but just not something I can reasonably recommend in a budget build ;)
@kyzen TURNIGY! Not Taranis. Oops! I went with the Devo 7e not too long ago and been pretty happy with it.
So, does the contents include a battery and charger? Please meh.com staff, let me know!
@garyhgaryh yes.
So what do you need for a controller to fly this bird? And what is required to add First Person View (FPV) capabilities?
@mgprokosch Transmitter (controller) is included. For FPV, you'll need a camera and video transmitter on the quadcopter, and a video receiver and display of some sort (screen, goggles) on the ground.
@JonT: I hit the (meh) button not knowing what it does. I realizing I'm giving this deal a thumbs down. Anyway to un-meh what I did? :)
@garyhgaryh No worries... many of us strive to punch that Meh button every day. My current record is 139 meh button clicks in a row, but several others here have much, much better records.
@garyhgaryh I hit that damn Meh button everyday, even when I buy. Like today.
@garyhgaryh there is no way to un-meh a meh, but don't worry too much because we don't really use meh clicks to measure when people don't like a sale, it's a lot easier to use the "amount of these things that didn't sell" stat to do that.
what's the return policy/warranty?
Bought this and the lightning deal. I want to do the firework flight linked above!!
@bhoom from the Specs: Warranty: 1 Year DJI
I fought myself for too long about getting this.. Such a great price.. but it is alot of money still.. But i was just saying I wanted one!.. But I was looking at a new video card.. I will get the money back next paycheck.. I'll break it first flight.. Ohhh its soo tempting!! Deep breathe..... thinkable-waiting-gecko
@SillyEmily There ya go... wasn't so hard, now was it.
@SillyEmily Oh, I'm with you alright. I'm totally geeked out about this purchase! LOL!

-Snapster / Matt / Meh CEO (& Inspire 1 owner)
@snapster http://www.quadcopterguide.com/dji-phantom-3-triumph-leaked/
@snapster Thanks for the update. It will be interesting to see which version of the Phantom 1 is finally shipped - The latest, or the old version.
@snapster Do you have a YouTube or Vimeo channel for your Inspire vids?
@ruouttaurmind no, Texas has a drone law that has penalty if you receive a privacy complaint and have already published video. Plus my videos are pretty lame so far.
@snapster Lame? Perhaps you missed my actionless actioncam video in today's product discussion? Now THAT'S lame! LOL!
If anyone is interested I have Brand new in a box DJI Phantom 2 V1 for sale $400 for anyone here. I am going to be putting them up on Ebay with a $500 Buy it now price in a few days
@bigfrank if you posted it before i bought this, I wouldve bought it from you. You should put it up asap before the new model comes out
@bigfrank If it's still available I will buy it.
@Seadog I have 5 units coming in. I will reach out to you as I get them. . I have auction starting tomorrow night with the buy it now price at $550 which is cheap. You can email me at big_frank@netzero.net with your contact info. I will call you the day they get here.
@bigfrank did I miss the deadline for the $400 price? If so, please disregard.
@Seadog No, not at all, Sorry for the confusion, $400 for anyone that responds from Meh. I have 2 sold already and 1 going up for Auction tomorrow night. That leaves me with 2 units that I can part with now.
@bigfrank Thanks! I sent you my contact data.
@bigfrank This is the V1 with the old style TX and 2212 motors and 9443 props?
@ruouttaurmind It is the Phantom 2 V1 just like this one http://store.dji.com/product/phantom-2?position=1
@bigfrank That would be the v2 or v3 pictured (built-in pitch control dial and battery level LED's on TX, high torque motors).
it is the same as this, http://www.hobbytron.com/DJIPhantom2Drone24GHz6CHElectricRCQuadcopter.html
Ok. I have to say it. I keep reading this topic as DUI phantom 1 quad copter with GoPro. Somehow I think that may be a short and disastrous flight. Also not so phantom.
@sohmageek If this is your first drone, do yourself a favor and go buy a cheap one to learn on. Syma x5 c is a nice easy to fly quadcopter that you can get for about $60
Mine has yet to ship, has anyone's DJI shipped yet?
@twall Shipped yesterday and will arrive Friday. It's going to be a long 1 week! Well, I gota finish taxes so that'll help eat up the time :).
I'm so excited about this purchase.. when will it ship? I already bought a dual battery kit, longer lets, extra batteries, isolation mount. Now I'm looking for a fpv kit and a 2-axis or 3-axis gimbal. I'm gonna trick it out.
@garyhgaryh longer legs (not longer lets).
@ruouttaurmind I ordered a similar gimbal tonight. It looks similar to the pictured. It ran me $53. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GAY5YBU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@garyhgaryh They're basically the same item, but mine has been skeletonized to save weight. Yours is about 210g, mine is only a bit lighter at 160g.
@ruouttaurmind If we get the latest phantom 1, we do not need an upgrade board right? That was my assumption, but I betcha I'm wrong.
@garyhgaryh If we get P1 v1.1.1 and Naza-M v2 it should be plug-n-play. In this video, Stephen Hawking shows how he installed one on a Phantom 1 that's clearly marked 1.1.1 on the bottom mfg label.
@ruouttaurmind Funny, i was watching this last night!
@ruouttaurmind I was looking to buy the pitch control lever last night. It looks like if we get the latest p1 it includes this. Almost like getting the p2 w/o the battery and the 9in props.
I really hope we're getting v1.1.1.
@ruouttaurmind I ended up cancelling my gimbal order and getting the lightweight one for $56. Thanks for the tip.
@garyhgaryh Do you have a link to the one you bought?
@twall Here's the one I got. $56 incl. shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271602466071
@twall This is the one I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131323599740?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Anyone know if we purchased the latest version (1.1.1)?
Yeah, I'm getting anxious. When might we get an update on shipping?
@twall @garyhgaryh @sirpogo these have shipped as of yesterday, you should be able to see your tracking at https://meh.com/orders soon.
@JonT Yeah!!
So has anyone got one yet? I'm still a week out being in Washington and all. Someone spill the beans on version number so I can order up some goodies :)
@geezfools What's on your list so far? Gimbal prolly? What else? 9443 propellers and maybe a 2800mah battery? You planning on a FPV system?
@ruouttaurmind any recomendation for ftv kits or systrems? I'm thinking of getting a boscam kit with both rx/tx.
@ruouttaurmind Hey, can you tell if it's a genuine EasyCap?
@garyhgaryh
@ruouttaurmind My cheap $28 monitor: http://ppl.ug/vDDz3cdYQec/ and http://ppl.ug/qVGr22yUOEQ/
@garyhgaryh Not bad! What are the power requirements? How are you going to provide power?
@ruouttaurmind reusing equipment/resources is the only way to go! In preparation of Friday, look what else I got today (and the last few days). Is there anyway to post pictures w/o posting it on a server that can access it via url? My goodies (there are five links here): http://ppl.ug/NWn7fVPnNls/ http://ppl.ug/rNP7kMipZpc/ http://ppl.ug/OqE9oo0Z6b8/ http://ppl.ug/nfpc11Fa0_c/ http://ppl.ug/MuTGVPGtX1Y/
@garyhgaryh link to the monitor? Not rushing into fpv yet, but may as well start getting some stuff :)
@geezfools Did you buy the 9" right off of DJI's site?
@twall http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=76_96_199&products_id=3745
@geezfools Dang they are on backorder....
LOL!
@ruouttaurmind Yeah - this thing sounds like it's about to have a thrombo. I don't see the motors lasting too long
Just picked up two of these batteries after doing some research.
@andreww good deal!
Arrived tonight. Serial label on bottom of DJI reads V1.1.1
@man1986 hell yes! Does the remote have the pitch lever at the back?
@garyhgaryh Confirmed.
@man1986 yeap, lever, mm hmm it's there.
@man1986 woooooo! Thanks!
@man1986 Good news! Thanks for the update. Mine is scheduled for delivery on Friday.
@garyhgaryh Any thoughts on which gimbal? At $60 I'm assuming one of those eBay chinese "brushed metal" ones.
@sportykev That's how I spell "inonvations."
I wanna see some pics peeps! Can anyone who has theirs already post a couple?
Anyone going to add iOSD to their phantom? I'm about to buy one. Any reason not to buy this? Here's a thread about it for the Phantom 1:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2084795
@ruouttaurmind What do you think of this monitor bracket? I know you can get it for $6 off ebay, but I want it on friday and I have prime!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J22L1FA/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If anyone wants to bid on a Phantom 2 V1 I have 3 up for Auction. They are new I offered 2 to members here for $400 plus shipping. I can not give away any others at that price*This is the Cheapest one right now http://www.ebay.com/itm/131483903623?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Highest is $455 right now with 4 days to go
@bigfrank What are the real benefits of the 2 over 1, outside of longer flight time with the larger cap battery?
@andreww I'm interested, my email is geezfools@gmail.com
@andreww What FPV stuff?
@geezfools ill send you some pictures tomorrow to that email.
It's been dead around here. Here's the latest item that I got today for the phantom we ordered at meh.com. 1 more day before I get the phantom, but it looks like the last update from ups was in IL (state).
http://ppl.ug/4jT_XLMFlbQ/
http://ppl.ug/Yrmt0IVNSGg/
@garyhgaryh I had to order new rotors for the hexacopter tonight (too many switches on the Devo F12e = FML!). I added a FPV TX to my order. 200mw for about $15 with free shipping:
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251718152938
@ruouttaurmind Thanks for the link! Man, that is a good price. I'm tempted to get that just because of the price. What will you be using as a receiver? You can get a boscam kit that includes the tx and rx for $35. Here's the upgraded antenna i ordered: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LGM2U0E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@garyhgaryh Boscam 200mw: Here's the upgraded antenna i ordered: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LGM2U0E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@ruouttaurmind wow! Please let me know if u get it to work. That solution looks awesome. How much does that remote go for?
@ruouttaurmind Do u have the Tali h500?
@garyhgaryh Yup. I got the TX in the Tali kit. Unfortunately it's the white version, not the carbon fibre version, but it's still pretty badass.
@twall I'm using a gopro hero 2. I just ordered a video cable for it. The monitor I got from amazon for less than $30 here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007SLDF7O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3TER2KWQR8PIT&coliid=IS73JLCQK1QRX&psc=1
@garyhgaryh I am assuming you bought this package? http://www.amazon.com/Boscam-600mw-Wireless-Transmitter-Receiver/dp/B00GWFUTSK/ref=pd_sim_p_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=0R9T71PZW24SCDR9680J for your FPV kit? So screen, this kit, a GoPro and you are set right?
@twall Yes, that's exactly the kit I bought, but I've been told the 200mw is probably just as good. The 600mw is overrated in terms of power. You will also need a monitor mounting kit. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J22L1FA/ref=pd_ys_hud_orders
@twall By the way @ruouttaurmind also seems to know alot about these birds.
@garyhgaryh Thanks for the heads up. Also, thanks for all your insight!
@twall You'll also need a battery to power your ground station (display and receiver) with the appropriate cabling and connectors for each one. @garyhgaryh was inspired when he suggested he'll be using the same kind of battery the Phantom uses.
Some of you emailed me asking me to post the 5 units I have, Here they are.

San Ramon, CA, United States 04/17/2015 4:47 A.M. Out For Delivery
Yeah!
@garyhgaryh Mine is on the truck today also. I'm off work today so I'll be here to greet the UPS dude and tear into the kit the second it arrives!
@garyhgaryh Mine is out for delivery as well today (SLC, Utah) and I can't wait. Who needs to be productive at work on a Friday anyways...
@garyhgaryh Just got a text from UPS, mine was delivered.
@twall I know I will get nine in a few hrs.. Care to send us a picture? lol.
@twall Originally my scheduled delivery was before 10am. They removed the 10am from the last update and it's 10:23am now.
@garyhgaryh I will snap a couple pics when I run home for lunch! Luckily my office is only 15 minutes from home.
@garyhgaryh Pics down below. Can't wait to fly this thing.
If anyone is interested you can still bid if you like.

bigfrank
BUYERS BEWARE, Big Frank does not keep his promise related to selling you products. He just sold the copter promised to me even though I emailed him and provided my contact data. His word means nothing when money is involvded.
@Seadog perhaps he's trying to generate bids on this auctions by doing this?!
@garyhgaryh I would normally agree, but I received an email from him indicating I could bid on them via the auction, but he could no longer honor the $400 price he promised in this tread (see above)
@Seadog you had the chance to email for the last 2 days and I did not hear back from you. Are you for real?
@bigfrank thank you and I appreciate the compensation, but I will buy from someone else.
@Seadog, Frank check your email. I emailed you 2 days ago. I think that you missed it.
@Seadog I called you. I guess you found the email from 2 days ago. It would have been nice if you admited you made a mistake rather than trying to make me look bad.
Are there any good GPS trackers for these birds so you can easily find it if it goes down?
@garyhgaryh I'm answering my own question. After I posted this, I found this: http://www.visionflyer.com/adding-a-gps-tracker-to-the-phantom-2-vision/ I don't like that fact it's $10/month. Must find a better solution.
But the best rule is not to let it get out of line of sight. ;-)
The UPS guy is my new best friend!
@ruouttaurmind It's quite a piece of kit here. I was pretty happy to see two full sets of rotors!
@ruouttaurmind And we're ready to hit the skies! Waiting for the battery to charge, then I'm in it.
@ruouttaurmind What camera (the red one) do you have there? ** never mind, i see you answered that question **
@ruouttaurmind 5:22pm and mine still hasn't shown! Phantom 2 props showed, but nothing the actual phantom. Which, I suppose is a good thing since it would be sitting on my porch otherwise and I don't need it to go missing from some eager passerby.
@twall
@twall There's that sweet sweet tilt control.
@twall @ruouttaurmind Thank you two for posting pictures. I haven't gotten my package yet. I went out for a run hoping to see a box in front of my door but none to be seen and it's almost 4pm. You guys are making me anxious getting my package.. lol.. thanks again guys.. How are you guys posting your images? Are you using a hosting service?
@twall It's good to see the tilt lever. It will be useful when you get fpv working.
@garyhgaryh Imgur. It's free and doesn't require an account or login. Just upload, copy the url and paste into your message. http://imgur.com/
@ruouttaurmind Thanks.. Just before you replied I tried postimg.org (is that the same service?): Testing here:
Good news, we just made a new topic dedicated to all things drone!
Official Drone Talk Thread: Deals, advice, cameras, flying tips & more
Head on over there to talk about everything drone-related including your gimbals, whozits, and whatnots.
All the cool gorillas are doing it.
Obviously if you have a customer support issue or problem specifically related to this sale feel free to post here, but for all other things drone (and not just the DJI phantom, all makes and models of drones) go ahead and post in the new thread.
@JonT This is GREAT! I maybe selling them but I have not had luck flying. I keep hitting things.
@JonT Thanks. Is there a way to subscribe to the new forum so I can get notifications of new msgs like with this thread?
@garyhgaryh +1
@JonT All the cool cats are over there... :-)
@garyhgaryh click on the little envelope icon under the first comment in that thread by @JonT to subscribe.
@Ignorant Thanks!
(I haven't even gotten to fly it yet because of this!!)
how much was this one?
@username $15 more than today's. $315
@username 315
thanks
