Bēm Bluetooth Speaker

  • Pick your size (2.5" vs. 2.25" cubed), color (see the pics), and name (you have to name it yourself: we like Cubeface, Corners, or Linda)
  • So much sound from a speaker about the size of a pool ball (Mini Mobile) or tennis ball (Mobile)
  • It’s got Bluetooth or aux-in, whatever strikes your fancy
  • They seem to last 3-6 hours on a charge or thereabouts, just keep them charged when you’re not using them and you’ll be aces
  • Model: HL2508, HL2022 (if you’re going to have bland nonintuitive model numbers, they should at least be Google-unique, unlike these)

Maybe we're amazed.

Startlingly? Stunningly? Flabbergastingly? We need a stronger word than “surprisingly”. Little Bluetooth speakers are so often described as sounding “surprisingly” good or big or whatever that the word has been devalued. It’s time to coin a new cliche to account for emotional inflation.

We don’t surprise easy. We hear a lot of little Bluetooth speakers. We’re familiar with what the good ones can do. But, like many of you who’ve bought them from us before, we’re surpr- er, astonished at how much sound is packed into these little cubes of 2.5" (the Mobile) and 2.25" (the Mini) to a side.

Which one should you buy? Depends on whether you want the bigger speaker or the bigger surp- uh, shock. As can see from the measurements, the smaller one’s not that much smaller, but a fair amount cheaper, and almost as loud. On the other hand, the bigger one is bigger, and a bit louder, and four bucks isn’t that much money. Clearly the only sensible course is to buy one big one and two small ones, keep the one you like, and give the other two as gifts.

Speaking (ha ha) of which, the recipient will probably also suffer from “surprisingly good sound” fatigue, so you’ll want to have your alternatives ready when they open it up, like so:

Them: “Oh, hey, a Bluetooth speaker, cool, thanks!”
You: “Yeah, I have one and it’s really (unforeseen/eye-opening/striking) how good it sounds!”

Just make sure you don’t let anything slip about how much you love your Bēm Bluetooth Speaker Cube between now and Christmas. That might ruin the sur- um, revelation.
