64-Pack: Baja Vida Traditional 100% Beef Sticks

  • Beefy like beef, long and narrow like sticks
  • Low in carbs and sugar and fairly low in calories
  • A good dose of midday protein, and they’re all beef… none of that separated chicken/pork/beef mix
  • Best by 5/17/23 (But a best-by date is not an expiration date)
  • $0.47/stick instead of $2.31/stick
  • Do they come in Georgia Red? No, they only come in beefy brown (and that’s a good thing)

Some Protein!

Last time we offered these, we sold 692 of them. Which sounds fine. Then again, they’re 64-packs. So, in other words: 44,288 beef sticks total.

When you say it like that, it’s much more impressive, right? They must be some excellent beef sticks, huh?

Well, maybe…

Don’t get us wrong, they’re totally fine. Or okay. Or decent. Or whatever. You see, it’s hard to tell, because the reviews put them in the fine/okay/decent range - some love them, some don’t. But we wonder: is this a case of Baja Vida mismanaging expectations?

Here, watch this ad:

Clearly, they are trying to differentiate themselves from your run-of-the-mill gas-station-checkout-counter-impulse-buy alternatives like Slim Jim or Jack Links or what have you. The problem is, that inevitably leads people to compare them to the ones you might find at your local butcher. And, we’re sorry, that’s just a battle something as mass-produced as Baja Vida is going to lose. Badly.

So we’re here to lower your expectations! Don’t think of these beef sticks as a potentially addictive snack. Think of them more like elongated vitamins that happen to be made out of meat: just some mid-afternoon doses of protein with minimal carbs and not too many calories to get you from lunch to dinner.

How does that sound?

Okay, maybe not so great. Which means these will now exceed your expectations!

(But seriously, we’re curious: how do these stack up to other cheap beef sticks like Slim Jims and Jack Links? Let us know in the comments.)
