We know what you’re thinking: didn’t we just sell an adapter thing yesterday?
Yes, we sure did!
Of course, you wouldn’t suspect that this was some sort of scheduling mishap. Ha! No way! A website called Meh dot com selling a product from a company called I-XTech? That’s the kind of place you’d expect to be SUPER precise about something like this!
Okay, fine. We’ll admit that this is due to some switcheroos on the calendar. But hear us out: there’s a chance we’ve discovered a brilliant new daily-deal sales move, a strategy we will henceforth refer to the ‘down-the-ladder’ technique.
Here is how it works:
We offer a product, something with simple, universal appeal but a lot of unnecessary features. Like, say, a charging block for smartphones that’s also a pad and travel adapter. The customer comes to the site, sees the item, reads the copy, and thinks, You know, I had not considered how much I needed something like this until I read such a perfect encapsulation of its use, rendered in a relatable and straightforward yet nonetheless eloquent prose style.
Some of those customers buy the thing offered there on the initial day. But there’s probably another subset of people who don’t need all the bells and whistles. They need something like the charging block, but not that exact one. They don’t need it to be a charging pad. They don’t need the adapter so they can plug in their phone in Spain. They don’t need it to be a power bank. They just need it to turn a wall outlet into some USB and USB-C outlets that’ll charge their phone FAST. And, actually, if they could snag two of them at once, that’d be great.
It’s not a quantity over quality situation exactly. More like a quantity and simplicity over complexity thing. They want something basic, something one or two rungs down the ladder, in other words.
But the only bummer? Now they have to shop somewhere else for this thing they only just realized they needed (again, because of the sparkling copy), and shopping somewhere else means spending more money.
And so they’re totally bereft, completely downtrodden, utterly third overwrought synonym for upset. UNTIL! The clock strikes midnight, and there it is: exactly what they want, the scaled-back version of the thing Meh just sold the day before.
Pretty genius, isn’t it? Or maybe it’s not. The sales will tell.
Anyway, we have some charging adapters for sale! Again!
