Ever wonder why we bother?

Sometimes you guys remind us why we go through the rigmarole of maintaining a community rather than just running a store. We’ve sold about 8,000 of these Stem Izon WiFi cams. The vast majority of buyers have been content to use them as advertised. They stream video over an iOS or Android app. They start recording if they detect motion or sound, and you can save 100 recordings for free on a cloud server. That’s the story and most of you are sticking to it.

But then here comes this guy @ChrisArgyle. By his own admission, he’s a “long time wooter, first time meher.” And he’s not content to play in Stem Izon’s sandbox. So he posted detailed instructions on configuring them for “personal non-cloud use.”

We’re mostly too lazy to try it ourselves, so we can’t tell you much more than that. But we can tell you that we’re grateful to work somewhere where smart, helpful people volunteer their expertise like this. When we see that happen, we know we’re doing something right, that we’re not crazy to believe in this vision of building something cool so cool people will come.

Also, it’s awesome when other people do your work for you for free. Thanks to @ChrisArgyle, now this product might be of interest to those who had no interest in it before. Our pool of potential buyers has expanded through no effort of our own! Yes! Score! Hey, we told you we were lazy.
