This is a passionate thing to me.
I used to be (and still secretly am) a ska kid at age 36. My favorite genre of ska is 1st wave (late 50’s /early 60’s). I love the Skatalites, Dekker, Toots, and Marley. I think his reggae stuff is good, but his early stuff is SOOOOO much more enjoyable to me.
If anyone likes him and is unfamiliar with his old stuff, CHECK IT OUT. It’s not crisp, it sounds like it was recorded in a closet, but the faster pace does something for me.

The Harder They Come. Oh wait that’s Jimmy Cliff, Uh I dunno after a couple of pitchers they all sound the same Except when Eddie Murphy sang Kill all de white people, that’s the only one I really understood. Even when Apollo usta sing at Monty’s he usta pretty much white it up for the audience. Even then I only caught about half of it, but you know beer and conch fritters and noise in the background, it don’t get much better.
@brenda Because it’s on Legend. “If you love Legend but don’t know much beyond that, here are ten suggested directions for further exploration. And if too much exposure to Legend has dulled Bob Marley’s appeal, take a listen and you might be surprised.”
Listening to all that Marley made me feel like I was in Arcata visiting my wife’s old friends from her time at Humboldt State in the early '80s. Irie, mon!

Reggae is kinda like country music to me - a weird unexplored world of unfathomable boredom.
@serpent Reggae after the 60’s isn’t all too special (Early-Mid 70’s Marley and Lee “Scratch” Perry being an exception).

@cranky1950 You’re cranky.
@hems79 what tipped you off?
How the hell is “Buffalo Soldier” not on the list?
@brenda You just beat me too it. You are right.
@brenda @mfladd With the refrain inspired by the Banana Splits theme.

Simply put, the man had a talent that extended well beyond his most popular set. He almost makes Ska music bearable
There’s more than one? They all sound the same to me.
Redemption song… Best Marley song.

@sohmageek again, on Legend. This was an exploration of lesser known songs of his.
@regnowsin sorry… I’m not a big Marley fan… but There are a few… My wife would love this poll however…
@JasonToon Great write-up! I really enjoyed the listen.
Thank you.
I can’t vote because I haven’t had time to watch the videos.
This is interesting as well.
