@mfladd Haha one of my favorite movies growing up. My sister and I used to set booby traps for my dad based because on it. He went along with it until the time we covered the stairs with hotwheels.
I always wondered what that blue light obelisk thingy was in my neighbors home? And now I know why the police are asking silly questions about my binoculars.
I have had the “old” system for several years and moved it to our new house last year when we moved. It works well with few issues and customer service is good. The central alarm company is good and the monthly plan is only $15 a month with no contracts. I recommend it. I have not investigated the new system much and so far see no reason to change. (No, I am not employed or paid by them).
I can’t speak for the old system, but I recently bought and installed the new one at work. This was after months of frustration with the Lowe’s Iris system.
This is BY FAR the easiest system I have ever setup. It’s also the most reliable. It legitimately always works as intended and the accessories have a super long range on them. My door sensors are working well in 5000 sq feet of building, and that includes working through thick fire walls.
Lastly, the equipment itself feels very high quality and well thoughtout. Door sensors come with tape, but they’re also magnetic. The keypad lights up when you touch it. Sensors are a piece of cake to connect to the system. All in all, they seem to have put a lot of thought into it.
My only complaint is that I have two cameras, and they don’t record to the cloud. They’re really only for live feeds.
I do recommend the monthly membership, but it’s a small price considering how stable this system is. I absolutely love it.
@TBoneZeOriginal I agree about the cameras but it doesn’t bother me any as I already had cameras installed that does record to cloud.
They have cameras out there now with a detection system that you put on a door and when the door opens the camera picks this up and focuses on the door.
Is it bad that I automatically parsed those model numbers into ‘Before Battle of Yavin’ and spent several minutes trying to figure out what the other letters stand for?
Still waiting for the camera hidden in a clock or whatever nanny cam style. Too bad the new system doesn’t come with a camera. I want to SEE who is breaking in. Especially if I can’t find another job soon enough and end up back in hud housing. It is someone with a key there.
If any of you have an old security system and want to convert it to something that works with SmartThings or Home Assistant, I highly recommend checking out Konnected - https://konnected.io/. I replaced my old system with this (and Amazon Fire tablets as touchpads) and love it.

way to mail it in guys…
Is this like building a wall around your house?
Nice hyper expensive placebos.
“SimpliSafe Shield Security Systems”
So Meh is selling tongue twisters now?
Am I the only one on Meh who doesn’t need to install any kind of alarm system here under the bridge?
@gertiestn Troll alert?
@gertiestn You mean something like…“he who steals my meh stuff steals trash”?
I’ve been wanting to buy a Security system like these, is the new one any good?
@Stallion Would it be sold here if it was?
@cinoclav @Stallion I have the new system myself and it actually is.
Unlike other WiFi based system this system has a SIM card included that calls local PD for you while WiFi based systems only send you mobile alerts.
Not long after I installed the system I had a break in and police were called suspect was caught.
Malcolm Brogdon and Marquese Chriss were both drafted the same year. Lol
I still think (non-lethal) traps are more fun.
@Seeds ummm…I am going to go with lethal (just for fun).
Is this a seeds trap?
@mfladd Haha one of my favorite movies growing up. My sister and I used to set booby traps for my dad based because on it. He went along with it until the time we covered the stairs with hotwheels.
Last time I’ve been told these have unpatchable security issues on the older ones; that’s why Simplisafe moved onto new systems.
Maybe it doesn’t matter much to you and benefits outweigh the issues, but there it is.
If the new one was available in the black, would pick it up. The black base with blue light is great style.
@todaresq Seems apparent you haven’t been here long enough. Here you go: https://meh.com/forum/topics/you-win-this-round-meh--well-played
@todaresq it is available in black but you’ll have to buy it direct from SimpliSafe
https://simplisafe.com/build-my-system
@NoImNotNSA Yep, knew that… is why I know it is great style.
I always wondered what that blue light obelisk thingy was in my neighbors home? And now I know why the police are asking silly questions about my binoculars.
Anyone know if the new system will work with any of the old extras? I.e. the siren or motion detector?
@Quantumcat it will not. The “old-old system and the old system” would have worked together but not the “old system” and the “new system”.
@Quantumcat I believe the camera works with both the old and new systems

Finally! Something to watch over my batteries in the fridge to keep them same from late night snackers.

CNET review of old system(they liked it).

I have the best security system - only owning trash that nobody would want to steal
This system (the new one) is currently the Wirecutter’s pick for the best home security system: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-home-security-system/
New one is already SOLD OUT.
@konradsa Wow, only 40 new units. Seems rather low.
@konradsa @psantora Test run for Simplisafe and meh for the new units? I was surprised they had the new ones.
@konradsa @mfladd @psantora a tease to get rid of the oldies.

What would Trump think about this?
Bummer, new ones are sold out!
