@txag96 I tested the sample out in Dallas and really liked it. Definitely less humid here than Houston though. I tested out the sample in about 75 degree weather but it was overcast and about to rain so humidity was high but overall temp was mild. It immediately brought the temp in my backyard down. While I did of course get the sample for free, I’m buying a second one as you can link 2 sets together.
It’s tempting for when I’m sitting outside but…we’re in level 3 water restrictions so this would be frowned upon . And possibly fined ‽‽ We’re in a drought with super-low humidity (don’t get me wrong, this is my PERFECT weather…sunny, wall-to-wall blue skies…)
▪︎Lawn watering one day a week depending on last digit of street address 8pm to 6am. (no real lawn here, I call it my “yarden”)
▪︎Car washing allowed only on that same day and nozzle must have shut-off valve.
▪︎Hand watering only between 6pm and 8am (I have to do this…LOTS OF CONTAINERS )
▪︎No pressure washing for anesthetic purposes.
▪︎HOAs can’t pressure or fine homeowners for brown yards or vegetation. (I’d never live in an HOA)
▪︎no watering or car washing on weekends except hand watering during the allowed hours
probably forgetting something…
@llangley Yeah. To move! I grew up in Tampa, but i live in the Jax area now, we’re also in drought conditions, but nothing so extreme! It’s generally around 10 degrees cooler here then where I called home for the first 20 years of my life (Port Tampa, near MacDill). But I agree with the Texans, adding moisture to the air outside in the summer wouldn’t make it any cooler, just more humid. Ugghh.
Don’t know the product but know the company as about 30 years ago bought a hand held Mistymate spray bottle when we went on vacation to the Mideast. It was a life saver in cooling us off especially in Egypt and walking around the Pyramids. Everyone in our group was jealous and wanted to be misted to cool them off. It really worked.
@mandirose Actually bought a newer model mistymate some years later which I still have and still works, so don’t need another one but was surprised that the company was still around and felt the need to comment on the fact that it does lower the surrounding temperature as advertised.
The effectiveness of these depends almost entirely on the relative humidity of the area where they are being used.
I was in Scottsdale AZ for a conference 20 years ago. The outside temperature was a dry 108 and systems similar to this were hung from restaurant patios. It worked amazingly. (A friend who lives in the general area has since told me that due to all of the irrigation and misting systems the humidity in that area has climbed in the past decades so maybe these systems aren’t as effective now).
Living in central Maryland with its oppressive humidity, I suspect the days that this would be useful for cooling would be pretty seldom.
However, my wife likes to keep her many outdoor potted plants under our gazebo when we go on vacation. I think this would work brilliantly for keeping them happy.
@mehcuda67 Oh crud, just realized the timer is mechanical. The use case for vacation is pretty poor unless you use an electric timer or have a neighbor who is willing to set the mechanical timer every few days.

@chuckf1 A brand new shovel?
@chuckf1
I mean yeah it was pretty obvious it was holes lol
@cfg83 @mediocrebot Well alrighty!
I feel honored.
@cfg83 @chuckf1
Interesting that Mr Bot named the car “Bandit” in honor of the 1977 film.
I do wonder where they found a “Brand New Pontiac”
@macromeh It was abandoned in a dealership that closed,

@cfg83 @macromeh Maybe it’s a Potniac and AI misspelled it.
@macromeh @mehcuda67 You could be on to somehting …

@medz Here’s the image you requested for “guy named Mister Patio who is selling patio furniture”
@medz Wasn’t Misty Mate a Centerfold and Mr Patio the guy in the bathrobe holding the pipe?
Anybody else have “Mist”y eyes watching Holes???
@bigjl98 No, but the sequel “Pegs” filled in everything that was missing for me.
Texas Gulf (of Mexico) Coast resident here; we have enough humidity already, TYVM, so I think I’ll let the folks in Arizona order these.
Hmmm, maybe this can be used as an irrigation system for your garden?
@goldnectar You’d need to put it close to the ground. That much moisture on the leaves, esp. in heat, would burn up the plants. (Texas here)
@goldnectar @Tadlem43 also wet leaves and stems can encourage fungal growth.
You really want to just water the ground near the plants.
@goldnectar Thought the same thing. Essentially $25 for a timer that may not last a whole season
@goldnectar just get a drip / soaker hose
@goldnectar You could definitely use for this. They have an image on the box specifically speaking to hydrating plants

@mediocrebot @zippyus I can’t help but think it’s missing something … a toga?
Hey, soul sister
Check my Mister’s, Mister on the patio, baby-oh
The way you sweat ain’t safe you know
I wish my pergola roof edge could produce a cool mist without the hose like the one in the image. That’s what I want!
Now I’m tempted to build a produce section.
Probably Schindlers List
We live in Houston. Ample humidity is already in the air, and it’s not cooling in the least.

@ETFrisco @llangley when I visited the in-laws in FL I renamed the fountains ‘humidity generators’

@Felton10 so you’re saying if we sell those, you’d be interested?
@mandirose Actually bought a newer model mistymate some years later which I still have and still works, so don’t need another one but was surprised that the company was still around and felt the need to comment on the fact that it does lower the surrounding temperature as advertised.
@Felton10 Always appreciate the commentary in the forums. Definitely thought today’s deal would get better traction!

Do these have to be mounted above, or can they be mounted from the side? I don’t even have rain gutters here because of the amount of snow we get.
@grush can be mounted anywhere you can put a nail into. For what it’s worth, I used a column on my porch and my fence to test it out.
