You guys buying funny socks?
0I have some novelty socks I got as gifts. And they’re great and all, but I don’t think I’d ever pay extra for socks just because they have a cool or funny design. Not for me. I mean, what’s the point? You only get to see them like twice a day if that.
I will say that they make for great gifts. Especially when you’re not sure what to get to someone. Plain socks are boring, and I don’t know, something like a mug or a pen feels too impersonal sometimes. But a nice pair of socks with cats with a design that makes someone laugh when they pull it out of the packaging? Great gift.
Anyway, if you do buy these socks for yourself, tell me why. I really want to know. Am I missing something?

Buy them as gifts, get them as gifts.
Some people in a business environment wear funny socks as a safe small rebellion against the dress code. Unless, of course, it’s one of those places run by somebody who is such a jerk about it that they specify black socks only.
@werehatrack We have a vice-president of business development that visits our site from time to time. His thing is to never match his socks. When he is on site I always give him a sock check. He is batting .1000
@capnjb ITYM 1.000
@werehatrack Yeah, sometimes I have decimal point issues
@werehatrack I’m 100% in this camp. Corporate life sucks so much out of you and it’s a tiny way to hold onto a shred of your humanity. At this point it is such an overdone cliche thing to do that it’s almost part of the culture of being a corporate drone but I still do it because, what else can I do?!
In for two on every Simply Unstitched and wait for death…
@werehatrack
@blaineg @werehatrack It seems like they missed a chance to make a “socks” pun on their sock.
@blaineg @werehatrack @xobzoo before I exited the corporate grind, I would’ve purchased “this meeting socks” socks in every possible color offered!! Just fantastic.
Personally, I love the socks from BlueQ. Both to wear and give as gifts. They have several different styles.
@ironcheftoni That would have been helpful information.
@capnjb oh i have tons of blueq stuff. Thanks to their free stuff sales. I actually put several blueq things in the box i sent. If you haven’t shopped from them, it’s a great company. They do good things.
@ironcheftoni I’ll check them out. I appreciate companies that are mission driven
@capnjb @ironcheftoni 1% kinda seems like lip service.
I wear them as I am sick of one color socks. One of my doctors wears them and notices each time I do. When I saw her last (about a month after halloween) she had ghost socks on she had to show me. So at least other people who wear them appreciate seeing them on others. And when people are seated you can often see some of the pattern. I do not like them with words on them though. Just patterns.
I wear weird t-shirts, why not weird socks? I also wear weird ties, but only on Sundays for church.
Some are the random stuff from Meh, though the Simply Unstitched socks are good quality.
I’ve subscribed to Foot Cardigan in the past, also good quality, though you don’t know what you’ll get on the subscription. They do sell specific socks on their site.
TeeTurtle has some that have made me laugh, or at least a Sensible Chuckle, and their occasional “half of everything” sales are a danger to my wallet.
Blipshift is good for automotive themed socks, as well as t-shirts, and the occasional polo (Llamaghini is a favorite).
When I was teaching kids, the socks were also good for getting their attention.
I don’t wear socks
Hey, life can be boring. Why not add a touch of fun? Even if nobody else sees them, it makes me smile knowing I’m wearing my “What day is it?” socks on a Wednesday or my watermelon socks to a cookout.
@lisagd I also find it fun to plan my sock choice based on the day, season, event, etc. Holiday socks are a hoot. Food socks make me smile. And nerdy socks (can’t have enough Star Wars options!) are always welcomed.
I have a sock fetish. I like weird sock. The more weird/crazy/outrageous the socks the better.
I totally get why people do. If I were going to, it would have to be a drawer of the same socks. You know. Same fit and model but you can play with the pattern?
But I’m not that interesting. Black socks are easy lol
