@tweezak
This was more like Serpico, and The Departed, with The Commish as a tough guy, in charge of a door-busting “elite” crew of rule-breaking bad cops .
…Or am I channeling Hill Street Blues again: “Benedetto is a slime-ball, everything he touches turns to slime…”
@tweezak
“Just the facts, ma’am…”
“1-Adam-12, see the man, corner of blah blah blah…”
“Bleep, bloop, wah, Engine 51, Squad 51…”
Grew up watching 'em all. I was too young to appreciate Car 54, tho.
I watched a few episodes, and then one of the characters pushed another one face-first into a hot grill, and that was enough for me. I don’t mind violence on TV shows (The Wire is my favorite show of all time), but there’s a line somewhere, and that crossed it.
@j37hr0
I didn’t know that they showed that.
I do remember HSB breaking that ground though.
Speaking of which: “Steven Bochco, died on Sunday at age 74 after a battle with leukemia…”
God rest him.
@curtw4 there was that one time he was kind of a softy on like a Life Goes On spinoff, which made his tough guy here seem drastic. But he was still a cop, so there’s that.
Man, the early 90s are way back in a haze now, aren’t they?
It was a really good show, but it wasn’t a fun show. If you like Walton Goggins at all, you should watch it.
@mtb002 he was so good and so easy to hate.
@mtb002 Wife & I still just refer to him as “teeth” whenever he’s in something now. Awesome show too.
POPSOCKETS! SPROCKETS! DAVY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
@mtb002
Yea, Lemonhead…
Never heard of it. Now Dragnet, Emergency or Adam 12…now you’re talking.
@tweezak Dragnet is good. Emergency seems a little cheesey now that I am an adult.
Adam 12 still holds up well and is great for spotting classic VWs before they were rusted out or over priced.

I’m holding out for Captain Kangaroo.

Never watched it. If I watch a basic cable drama I don’t need to see Michael Chiklis’ butt.

@PhysAssist was it Hill Street blues or was it NYPD blue? Remember Cop Rock?
@j37hr0 Yeah, that’s the problem- I can’t remember one from the other…
Better police shows: Chicago Code. Detroit 1-8-7. Flashpoint. All of Law&Order: Criminal Intent. (Det. Robert Goran is my hero!)
@Chmarr… Vincent D’Onofrio is a fantastic, vastly underrated actor! See if you can recognize him in Men in Black.

@haydesigner Noticed that connection a while back… and I was totally blown away. That guy is so versatile, and makes an awesome Fisk.
HIKING! VIKINGS! STRIKE KING [BRAND FISHING LURES]! AWESOME!
@Chmarr @haydesigner He was also in Adventures in Babysitting.
Is that the one where Michael Chiklis played the exact same character he plays in every other show?
