We've had Sirius radios ever since Howard announced his station. My husband wants me to listen but I just can't. 80s on 8 and Hair Band for me. I'm showing my age :)
That explains why I still have the radio after multi "your subscription ends in a few weeks/days" notices indicating it should have ended this week. Thanks for the heads up.
Can't stand the audio quality of XM or Sirius; Satellite radio has the unique capability of sounding tinny, compressed, and having no dynamic range all at the same time! My cell phone calls sound better than the talk radio stations!
Back when I liked baseball, I subscribed because baseball. Then Bud Selig came along and ruined everything and I spent a miserable amount of time on multiple phone calls telling them no, I wasn't interested and wasn't going to listen and didn't want to keep paying them and they'd keep calling back with better offers that meant nothing to me. Their attitude toward customers who want to cancel is worse than Comcast's.
@editorkid I got 6 months free with the new vehicle, then they magically added 3 more months for some reason. I went online to cancel a week before it expired and got the usual random variable renewal rates dance. I kept saying I wanted to cancel because the audio sucked and I never used it. Another offer. I repeated that I wanted to cancel. Another offer. Lather, rinse, repeat until I finally typed “I WANT TO CANCEL”, copied it, and kept sending it repeatedly for about 2 minutes. When I stopped, they agreed to cancel the account. Since then, I’ve been getting snail mail offers at the rate of about one per week. If customer service sucked less, I might have renewed it when I was ready for a cross-country trip, but now I hate Sirius so much I won’t even consider it. Ever.
@rockblossom My daughter gets it for her birthday. I used the chat box. Said I would cancel if it was what they wanted to charge me. Boom, $4.99 a month. It was a much better experience than last year.
@sammydog01 Yeah. I didn’t notice the date and don’t know who bumped a 5-year old thread. If we revive enough zombie threads can we weave some zombie clothes? Most of the TV zombies look like they could use a new set of clothes. Or a good laundry facility.
Every year I have to do the same dance with SiriusXM. They send me an outrageously overpriced renewal notice (this year it's for $204), I call them up to cancel and they offer it to me for another year at around $90.
Am I the only one who has to do this? Are any of you getting a better price? Why are they such douchenozzles?
@DaveInSoCal I was doing that and paying about $70/car for 2 cars.. but then I decided that free podcasts could handle my radio needs just as well (all I listen to are sports and political talk).. and I convinced my wife that she could get by with OTA radio.. Now it's free ;)
@DaveInSoCal when my sub ended I called to get the $77 year that many people spoke of getting online. The rep wouldn't budge off the $200 she wanted "unless I got the offer in the mail". So I kicked their habit. Now they send me offers for 6 months for $25 and I can't be bothered to deal with their sorry asses, I've got podcasts to listen to.
I often listen to 40's big band music in the car. The iPhone app has a salsa station called Rumbón. I also listen to CNN en Español to practice my Spanish.
@connorbush i have an old skyfi with the portable radio dock somewhere, you have to put the antenna by a window with clear view to the satellites though and it has to be mounted in a dock in your car. I thought it was awesome in 2003 but like I said above can't be bothered to deal with xm anymore.
So I was doing a little light reading over lunch today as I was curious about the XM "kill signal".
Seems the Free XM Preview periods serve not only to market to people who have let their subs lapse, but also to provide a fresh opportunity to deactivate radios that may have managed to miss their kill signal window when the sub originally lapsed. By turning all known non-subscription radios on and back off a couple times a year, they can send out the kill signal again for radios that people disconnect and cancel, then hook up a few weeks later after the kill cycle is done.
I was thinking about this this morning actually (I think a lot about a lot). A friend of mine was smart enough to buy the Sirius lifetime subscription when it first came out and they needed money. It was like $300 and you could upgrade the radio two more times if it broke. I wish I had $300 back then.
Is this 'Free XM' for XM labeled units only? It's not working on my Sirius Radio in the car that I canceled it on a few months ago.
I've been an XM (now SiriusXM) subscriber for 10 years. They've raised the rate every year, and every year I call to cancel. Each time they miraculously find a way to offer me a better rate. Last year it was $96 for 12 months (they wanted to charge me $175).
This year the invoice was for $205 for 1 year of service. They offered $105 for 12 months, and when I pushed back (my exact quote was "That's still too much. I pay less than that to stream movies through Netflix!") they offered me $17.21 for 6 months. Deal!
@marklog lol. I think it's ridiculous that they're trying to charge $17/month (which is the full price), and a simple phone call got it change to < $3/month.
Current XM subscriber, but I like my talk radio. OutQ all day for me!
Howard 100 every day since he went to satellite
@gnext2 same here. Oh my god, thats crazy!
When I was a subscriber I spent a fair amount of time on the O&A channel... Back when there was an A.

@looseneck You want old? I get stuck in the 60's! Fortunately every time they paly McArthur Park I'm forced to go somewhere else. Road Trip Radio!
E Street Radio, Classic Vinyl, Classic Rewind and Deep Tracks
I switched may years ago for howard. I regret not paying for the life time subscription. However howard has gone soft.
@jml326 People evolve over time
@jml326 That’s what she said.
Radio Margaritaville 24, The Joint, Spectrum and Deep Tracks are my faves. :)
P.S. - Fins UP! :)
I've been a Sirius subscriber for years- love it! Lithium, Alt Nation, 80's on 8, 90's on 9, and First Wave FTW!
(Also The Bridge for when I think about my childhood. Teenaged son eyerolls when I sing along. :) )
That explains why I still have the radio after multi "your subscription ends in a few weeks/days" notices indicating it should have ended this week. Thanks for the heads up.
Howard 100 and 101 always. Hope he is finally done with stupid AGT and re-signs with SiriusXM... Music Lithium, XMU and Old School also...

@CaffeineGuy I think I'll sign up, just to call them and cancel and tell them how crappy it sounds.

Hip Hop Nation doesn't do it for you guys?....where else can you be reminded that these hoes....they're for erybody...on an hourly basis

Oh, and to answer the posted question, I mostly listen to the Pearl Jam station, Classic Rewind, and Alt Nation.
@DaveInSoCal yes, I started doing that too back when it was around $70, and then $80.

Road Trip Radio. Just love it, but it can't seem to make up it's mind as to which channel number it wants to use.
I often listen to 40's big band music in the car. The iPhone app has a salsa station called Rumbón. I also listen to CNN en Español to practice my Spanish.
I desire a good/inexpensive XM radio that I can use in my car but also take to my desk during work. Please advise.

@djslack Download the app on your phone
@gnext2 think you meant to summon @connorbush, so I'll do it here
@gnext2 thank you

I just thought it was interesting.
@djslack Shhhhhhhhhhh............ don't tell their marketing secrets

@DaveInSoCal per month? If so, that's only $2 than your $105. If that's the total, nice job :)
