You may have already heard, but Woot! is owned by a much larger company that goes by the name of Amazon. Now, after EIGHT long years of subsidiary-ship, we want to bring some of that Amazon goodness directly to our customers.
That's why today we're very happy to announce FREE SHIPPING for Amazon Prime customers! Yes, we know it sounds pretty awesome and yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. (And yes, for you old-timers who have been asking for this for, um, eight years, thanks for waiting. This computer stuff is hard).
Here's what you'll get:
FREE Standard Shipping on Woot! orders
FREE Express Shipping on Shirt.Woot orders
The lame fine print: See individual offer pages for shipping details and restrictions. Not valid for international shipping addresses.
Want to unlock the benefits of an Amazon Prime membership on Woot!? Link your Woot! account with your Amazon account! We've even taken screenshot of how to do this, EVEN THOUGH IT IS SO FREAKIN' EASY:
Click that fancy "Login with Amazon" button and you'll be able to [not so] magically log in using your Amazon email address and password:
When you go to your account, you'll see a new graphic next to your name:
Not an Amazon Prime member? Congrats! You're one of the 13 people left who aren't. Fix that now by signing up over at the mothership Jeff B's house Amazon. Apparently there are other benefits too!
Yes!
(about time)
@mfladd I did that EXACT same dance this morning when I found out…haha. I don’t buy from there like I used to and a lot of times don’t buy shirts because of the shipping cost. I see lots more shirts in my future.
@mehbee Neither do I, but there are many times I decided not to buy something inexpensive I wanted because of the $5 shipping.
Have you seen Star Trek Discovery and the Altered Carbon series? Soooooo Good!
We might need a GeeK thread just for us
@mfladd There are bunches of times the shipping did me in, that’s why I love woot offs because it’s normally 5.00 all day…now that won’t be an issue at all. I’m all about a Geek thread. I have not watched that one. Have you wanted Beyond?
@mehbee @mfladd
I started Beyond, but I never had a chance to finish the pilot.
Eventually I’ll have a chance to watch it.
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin I really like it. I’m on season 2.
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin Oh I did watch the first couple of episodes of Star Trrk Discovery but since it’s on a separate app, I haven’t been able to watch any more. It’s on my list. I love Sonequa Martin-Green, plus I support my Walking Dead actors!
@mehbee Except that they just raised the price on their shirts to include “free” shipping even for non-prime members. Now your $8+5=$12 daily shirt is $15 with free shipping. And no discount for multiple shirts. Two shirts is $30 now instead of $8+8+5=$21. Boo!
@katbyter Ok that completely sucks. Oh well, they just lost most of my shirt business. Unless it’s a shirt that I just have to have or there is a sale, I’m not paying 15.00. I know that’s not really a lot but I had already started paying more because I wanted the premium shirts. Maybe they will see the error of their ways and make a change I’ve sent shirts through the mail and it didn’t cost me 5.00 to send it. Or, they need to stop trying to level the playing field and leave the prices as they were. You don’t have or want Prime, you pay shipping.
@katbyter @mehbee They had shirts for five bucks shipped on national pizza day- keep an eye out for sales. I bought three to size out the new ones. One fits. The others are on a shelf for my upcoming weight loss.
/giphy maybe not
@katbyter @sammydog01 That’s what I normally do anyway but once in a while they have a really good one that I just have to have…lol. Instant gratification and all that, plus I have a friend that I send shirts to for holidays and for no reason. That’s going to either stop or be very limited. Good luck on your upcoming weight loss, maybe the diet be bearable and the total LBs but huge! Mine starts pretty soon myself.
Cool beans.
@heartny
(@narfcake - Been waiting for a while for somebody to give another good reason for me to post this.)
Wait…
Why do I need a reason to post an Animaniacs video???
Yay!
Who knows? Maybe I’ll check Woot more frequently now. For some of their stuff, even a $5 shipping fee shoved the item into the Nah column.
Meh. I haven’t done any serious shopping (i.e. buying stuff) at Woot in years. There was a time it seemed like they had some real bargains, but it seems to me to’ve turned into an overpriced Amazon dumping ground for refurbs.
@aetris At times, the same could be said about here. Minus Amazon, of course. For now, at least.
@narfcake - I didn’t really articulate my issue correctly; of course in all realism, being a dumping ground is the whole point of both sites, which is great when you find that certain something at a great price. Woot though I dunno what to say exactly, a refurb showcase? It just seemed like it was no longer real deals.
I do like the T shirts, though!
@aetris @narfcake
With ya.
I swim (sorta) in the great cosmic dumping ground soup.
woot.
Gonna have to dump my PayPal option for them I suppose.
shipping kills it
@medz
I died. Just for this.
Good job @Del! I know you are personally responsible for this achievement
@mfladd snort
Apparently the BOC over there will now be a flat $10 with free shipping for everyone. So no savings on those.

Now if only they sold something that was both not trash and priced well…
@Seeds I just bought a refurbished Amazon Tap for $50 on Woot. That’s a pretty good deal.
@sammydog01 Has it arrived in working and clean condition? I don’t trust their refurb electronics anymore.
@Seeds I bought one with a coupon I had in January- it looked brand new and works perfectly. It doesn’t say certified like the more expensive one on Amazon but I bet it’s from the same shelf in the warehouse.
@Seeds No matter where, my approach to refurbs is this:
@narfcake I saved $15 on my Tap and dropped from a year to 90 day warranty. Maybe not too good a deal. But I would bet since it’s fulfilled by Amazon they would help me out if it broke, which I doubt it will.
@sammydog01 90 days is still reasonable. It’s especially the 30-day and less warranties that really make me question how little confidence the manufacturer or refurbisher has in the product.
@sammydog01 There you go, spending more money again. You just wanted to tap Alexa?
@mfladd But I love her!
@mfladd @sammydog01 I just snorted sweet tea out of my nose.
@sammydog01 That’s what all the tappers say.
Question for @del
I have my usual woot account for most purchases and for being a (sometimes annoying or weird?) forum participant.
I have another, already active, woot account, logged in from my Amazon Prime account, for wine purchases I used to make.
<I prob have another woot account somewhere or other, but I never use it and don’t care about it.>
How do I combine the two (@f00l and the Amazon prime account) so that I can both take advantage of prime shipping etc, and also sometimes post on the forums under the usual @f00l uid, without having to go thru the pain of remembering which account is currently logged in on what browser?
Much thanks. We still love you.
@f00l good question.
@f00l Here’s a tip: stop creating extra accounts just to score more BOCs and you wouldn’t have this problem.
@medz
I have never scored a BOC, and don’t usually bother trying. I think it’s kinda funny that I never got one.
I created (perhaps?) a second account uid at woot for joke forum postings and then never used it. I don’t remember the uid and am not even sure if the email address on it. Would have to search thru my email addresses to be sure.
I’m not even certain I did actually create a second account. Maybe I only thought about it and never did it.
I created the Amazon account login at woot because I had to login with an Amazon uid in order to purchase wine, back when woot sold wine.
And no BOC’s for me. Ever.
@del
It may be that the @f00l woot account and the Amazon Prime account are already linked.
I’m trying to figure this all out.
@narfcake, If I get all this accomplished, then perhaps I will end my price increase boycott, and start buying some penguin and cat shirts from carshirt.woot.com.
Fuck privacy, right?
Woohoo! I give up!
/giphy "no privacy"
@f00l @narfcake
Carshirt.woot?
@f00l Happy to answer questions on woot.
@Del
Left a q over there. Thx!
@narfcake @PlacidPenguin
Penguinshirt.catshirt.woot.com.
@f00l Let me know what you find out. I am to lazy to go look.
@mfladd
Turns out my @f00l woot account was already linked to my (diff email) amazon prime account. I didn’t know this. I thought they were two separate accounts.
IDK when/how they got linked. I suppose when I logged in using Amazon in order to purchase some Wellington.
If you go you the “Prime Shipping” topic in World Of Woot, there are explanations on how to do the linking, complete with screenshots.
And @del will answer questions, such as “Is my Woot account already linked with my Amazon Prime account?” in that topic.
Or by a CS query.
Woot still won’t let me log in with my amazon, acts like it’s working, then nadda.
The coders are still saving me money.
@thismyusername Hit me up on the main thread on Woot and I’ll try to help you out. I and others have posted some tips.
With all the categories and sub categories, Woot is a pain to browse in my not so humble opinion

@kaighintze @medz ew no
Damn, I’ve gone over to the dark side just to save $5.
@Barney
Yikes. I just did a Google Image search for “dark side Barney”, and I saw things that can’t be unseen.
@PlacidPenguin I guess the good news is that I’m using an alias at Woot!
@Barney
Different than the other 2 which I know about?
@PlacidPenguin There’s a lot you don’t know about me. (I hope.)
@Barney
I’m still trying to figure myself out.
I don’t have time to figure other people out.
THIS is a game changer for me. There have been a few items I would have purchased, but sales tax plus an extra $5 for shipping on a $20 item made for a less desirable deal.
@ruouttaurmind
And yet, despite that logic running in my mind, I’ve still bought BoCs.
@PlacidPenguin BoCs are excludable from the price/value test because you never know the value integer until your package arrives, right?
The last couple BoCs I’ve received have been worth at least the $10 price of admission.
@ruouttaurmind
So that’s why mine have not been worth the $10.84 admission. You took my boxes!
@PlacidPenguin
Oh, if I can use my amazon store card also I’m probably in trouble.
@cranky1950 That would be very cools beans.
OH thank the heavens! Now I will actually be looking at woot! again!
Thanks for the thread @placidPenguin
I haven’t seen many BOC’s for a while now. Has w00t slowed down offering these?
@Lurker Last one was Jan 23rd, I think. You’re only allowed to purchase one every 31 days, so it really doesn’t matter to me unless they offer one before 2/23/2018. Which I’m sure they’ll do like the day before just to piss me off.
@medz
If they do it after the 25th, you’ll be eligible for it, and you’ll have had 2 BoC days this year while I only will have had one. (I got one December 25th, so I was ineligible to get it in January.)
@PlacidPenguin Yes. I timed the holiday craps pretty well. They probably need to have a 2-month drought with no craps to get everyone on the same schedule.
@medz
(There are foods to take for that, although I’d suggest seeing a doctor even before 2 months.)
@medz I think the objective was to get everyone off the same schedule.
@Lurker @medz @PlacidPenguin I only need 2 more then I’m out forever. The wait is killing me since I wasn’t eligible for the January crap.
@Lurker I was just kidding about the forum filters- you can spell Woot correctly and no one cares.
@medz @sammydog01 @Del @ACraigL
This reminds me of a saying.
“The road to BoCs is paved with good intentions.”
@sammydog01 Objective was to reduce repeat crappers. First, we have to get everyone on the same starting point or else there will be too many schedule variations to predict. (like @PlacidPenguin pointed out) It may be unfair if someone has hit the “sweet spot” to always be eligible for monthly craps. So, as long as vvo0t waits 31 days after the last one (Jan 23rd), everyone should have an equal shot at getting on the new schedule rotation. Then, w007 can easily plan the best days for crap sales to prevent repeat crappers.
@medz I thought it was to get more crap to more wooters- if they did them on a 30 day schedule it would be to their advantage to have half the nutjobs like me buying one month and the other half buying the next. I guess we’ll see if they go over or under the 31 days.
@sammydog01 Oh, yeah, they should go under the 31 days. Especially when there are special events or holidays. I’m just saying everyone should be at the same starting point. I suppose it’s already been 31 days since the last one of 2017, so maybe we already are on the same schedule… maybe not if you factor in the 10 day buffer which prevented some from bying the 1st one of 2018…
@medz @sammydog01

Hello wooters!
Wanted to give you a heads up on a change for Bet on Colds starting this month. Instead of the 11 day buying limitation, we are changing it to 31 days. That is:
Limit one bag per 31 days, per person. To clarify – you cannot have purchased a Bag o’ Crap in the previous 31 days, NOT counting the day you are trying to purchase. That’s Woot Math, and that’s our policy.
Why?
For 2017, we found that 5% of the wooters bought 20% of the Bet on Colds. We want to get Bet on Colds to more people and this is one way to do it.
What?
Our checkout system will automagically prevent you from buying a Bet on Cold. I will also be checking purchases when we have Bet on Colds run within that 31 day limit to check for people using duplicate accounts. I will be ruthless and I will not apologize. And no, I won’t tell you my secrets to rooting these out.
Discuss now because I’m sure we’ll be having a woot-off before too long. I didn’t want you to be surprised.
-----------------
A random piece of info. Here are the numbers for people getting their first Bet on Cold during 2017:
2004 55
2005 214
2006 333
2007 433
2008 435
2009 354
2010 231
2011 195
2012 185
2013 159
2014 221
2015 187
2016 186
2017 319
That's just over 3700 Bet on Colds going to first time crappers! And I want to do more in 2018!

So you’re both right (though one of you is righterer).
So for this to work I have to log in via Amazon each time, not just one time and “link my account” right??
@chienfou You will get prompted occasionally to re-login, but linking the accounts is a one-time event.
@ACraigL Actually I just tried to go back to woot! after linking my accounts, and it looks like I will have to use the 2 step log in EACH time I go back if I close my browser (Firefox) between visits.
I figured that would be the case, but was hoping it wouldn’t be…
I just downloaded the Woot app with very high expectations that I would see the snarky charm of Meh with the abundance of clickable crap of Amazon… I was under impressed. I am, however, now a member, since Woot is now a corporate puppet of Amazon and I am a slave to the Prime.
I was an early and often Woot customer. It has never even been close to the same when Amazon took over. They lost me as a customer. The final blow was when they did away with the community deal sharing page. They got so greedy that they didn’t want Wooters to share deals from non-woot sites? That’s the exact opposite mentality that made the site so great! The prices aren’t really that great. I check back every once in a while to see what’s going on. I found a drone that was $50 off of normal non-refurb price. I was all set to buy it and found that they don’t take Amazon gift cards as payment! REALLY? I haven’t seen any BOCs…so don’t even know if they do that anymore…but it’s just not the same. I agree with other’s opinions about navigation. There is no search option…you pretty much have to guess what category an item might fall in.
@gallogj
They had 2,500 BoCs from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday.
They had quite a few in December with the 2017 Crapvent, and they had 3 listings for it in the Woot-Off in January.
@gallogj The Deals site was ended because it really wasn’t being visited much any more and had been taken over by overseas shops and sellers. Had nothing to do with not wanting to share deals. Had it still been viable, we would have kept it.
@gallogj They shut down the deal site because the money from affiliate marketing died off.
Of course the revenue stream dried up because people stopped visiting because the deals went to shit because of the direction the mods took because the direction wootazon gave them…
@gallogj @Seeds LOL. Amazon doesn’t manage the day-to-day operations. It was an internal decision.
@Del Amazon manages the entire organization of Woot, including (but not limited to) the direct hiring of its CEO and HR director and their direct reporting to superiors at Amazon. Affiliate nexus applies in nearly every legal situation. Amazon shareholders experience all revenue and expenses that flow through Woot. Amazon HR policies apply at Woot. Employees are paid via Amazon Stock. There is no difference from “local management” and any other Amazon department’s “local management” at Amazon. It would be like saying that Amazon didn’t manage the day-to-day operations of AWS.
@Del @snapster Yeah…as if someone who used to work there knows more about the operations than a current employee.
/giphy scoffs
@Del @medz @snapster
I was gonna make fun of this by sarcastically asking del what she could possibly know about the operation of Woot, but by then Snapster had already replied.
@PlacidPenguin I enjoyed the cute penguin gif while it lasted.
@snapster
@PlacidPenguin I’m sure I don’t know much about Woot. I’ve only worked here 9 years.
@Del
That’s why it would have been sarcastic.
@PlacidPenguin Nothing I said contradicted what @Del said beforehand. What she said afterwards didn’t really answer anything.
So, for the record, and I know it’s buried in other comments above - linking my Amazon account to my already existing Woot! account was easy and preserved my Woot! history. So good job, Amazon.
@themutilator I really like your username.
@Thumperchick Thanks! It was too long to register on meh.
I prefer my deal sites to fall into one of two categories:
Woot occupies a no man’s land between the two. It currently lists 675 items under All Deals, which isn’t that daunting. But, as far as I can tell, I can only view them in an inefficient grid format (limited to 24 per page) that has a large picture of each individual item instead of links to “events” with multiple items. I can only filter by type and price; no option to only show me ones that have been submitted since I last signed on. Categories and price ranges are useless to me; I’m an opportunistic buyer.
The main page has events instead of individual items, but they can stay on there for a while, and not all events are shown there.
I’ll put it back in the daily rotation for now and see if I can find a way to make it useful.
@Kabn Yeah. I prefer a single, good, carefully curated deal. Let someone else do the work of finding a really good price point. I check one thing, if not relevant to me, I move on.
If there is something I NEED, however, I will do the searching, so the site has to have a large inventory and reasonable search, filter, sorting features. Woot has too many items, but not enough that I’m sure they’ll have what I need. They also don’t have very good searching abilities. Same can be said for morningsave which is why I don’t shop there much. I’m not their target audience, however. Morningsave is for people who want to be told what to buy from someone who is getting a cut of the action. No thanks.
Somewhat related, you can now use your Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card to earn 5% or Amazon Rewards Visa to earn 3% back at Whole Foods Market. Unfortunately, I have the Amazon Store Card, so I suspect I get 0% back.
https://www.amazon.com/b?node=17599167011&ref=vanWFMC
First woot Prime free shipping order placed today: a dozen Guildan t-shirts for $26. A fair price which would have been no deal at $31 with the $5 shipping fee.
Hmm. Ya. Now my second order: Morakniv Craftline Robust carbon steel fixed blade knife for $5. C3 says this is lowest price ever, and half the previous lowest price. That’s like a Meh-worthy price right there.
Again… with another $5 for shipping this price would have doubled and been no deal.
@ruouttaurmind
How did you do that price? Did you use a coupon?

@f00l It’s the featured sale of the day over there.
