Woot has reached an all time low.
28So has anyone seen the redesign? Bad. Just bad. I guess to celebrate, it's woot-off time. Hopped on today for a quick check and this is the first item I see. @snapster - All I can say is, I'm sorry the powers that be took your first born child and turned her into a sleazy drug addled prostitute. You raised her right and they led her astray. Amazon, you're a shitty pimp.

The site redesign was wretched. I popped in yesterday morning, and I thought I'd typed in the wrong address. I despise that scrolling list of sale stuff. I put up with it on Amazon because that's what they've always used, but this is just awful.
@koalamoo @Bingo Exactly my thought too. Yay, let's look at 100 items, 4 at a time! I mentioned in my comments over there about the redesign that it simply feels like there's one person who decides this is the way they want it, regardless of what user experience tells them. They force the new design and persuade their employees it's for the best. I'd be hard pressed to believe most of the employees there actually like what it's become. They just put on a happy emoji and go home and bitch about their jobs.
@koalamoo @cinoclav it's a very very very much worse version of amazon's layout
@koalamoo They should just give up and call what it is now. Amazon Light.
@cinoclav I see that in our computer system at work all the time. It's nuts
@cinoclav That is notoriously the case about Amazon -- Bezos's whims rule the (wretched) graphic design.
Saw that yesterday and almost posted here but then I realized I just didn't care enough anymore.
What's funny is the first thing it reminded me of was the Amazon Gold Box/flash sale layout that they've used for a couple years now. And when they rolled that out (vs the older super simple layout they used to use) I stopped caring about Gold Box as well.
@Bingo +1. I stopped checking Gold Box deals when they changed the format a couple years ago.
@Bingo Ugh, yes! I hate the new way they display the Gold Box. I've pretty much given up on it.
No one is pointing out that Woot is selling a Testicle plush?
The testicle plush is one of the better things they are selling today.
What the hell is this?
@Bogie Well, that was kind of the point of my original post. I was rather surprised to see that for sale. Besides, it looks nothing like a testicle (no mention of the errant spelling on woot either) and what's with the blue balls?
@zachdecker I have to admit, at least that thing makes a bit of sense for certain consumers. Not the guy in the picture, but for someone older who has trouble carrying around a trimmer/edger.
@Bogie I was more disturbed by the fact they are charging $18.00
@Bogie it might be telling that:
(1) a potentially dramatic item like that had only 14 comments.
(2) a 2 dollar item sold out at $23 delivered.
@zachdecker I would like to know the name of it, so that I could find it in a store. Please don't make me go look at the woot product offerings. sniff
@Shrdlu I think it's this :)
http://www.blackanddecker.com/en-US/products/lawn-and-garden/lawn/lawn-mowers/20v-max-lithium-12-in-3in1-compact-mower/mtc220
@Shrdlu I evidently don't get out enough.
@magic_cave I'd like to see you over here a little more often.
I chuckled at the testy-plush actually. I prefer them selling oddities, rather than just warehouse Amazon refurbs. One of the things I used to really like about woot was when strange items came up. This made me recall those days.
looks at my talking usb stewie griffin with laser gun with affection
@ACraigL I am enjoying the body parts too.
@ACraigL I should have bought the heart plushie and came up with a Kick butt Kano costume to go with it
@stryper2000 Yep. And you'll have it time for next halloween :)
I also was shocked by the new Woot. It's obvious they don't care what their customers think. I chuckle that the lytro cameras are second on their list of best sellers. Makes me skeptical, to say the least. Most comments around the lytro - a $50-$75 item, have always been "expensive novelty toy".
Who's buying these best sellers?
They have mutilated the feedback/comments and the place has become a ghost town. Or the comments are about how crappy everything is and the employees (like Thunder Thighs) act like they heard or saw nothing
Really sad to see it all go down in flames of burning shit
@shells I find it a bit hard to believe that a $400 toilet seat is also a best seller- it better perform some very unusual and perhaps illegal service for that price.
Haven't we seen these threads multiple times? They keep outdoing themselves with this "all-time low".
@luvche21 There's nothing to say they can't go even lower. Give it time.
@cinoclav Oh, I'm waiting :)
Damnit @cinoclav I went looking for a set of plush testicles. And they were gone. :( now I can't even give 2 craps about it ;)
@sohmageek no worries - get yours here:
http://www.yetang.com/item/43590
"I Heart Guts" but at least the Chinese folks know how to spell.
@sohmageek Guess that means you also missed the plush colon.
Anyone get the PS4 email from woot?
@connorbush yes. And they were sold out when I got the email. Didn't appear to be that great a deal if you wanted a game that was available bundled. And with BF coming...
@connorbush @RedOak I saw it too. Not that I was interested in it but I agree, not a particularly great deal. I have a PS3 I won from SlickDeals that barely gets used.
@cinoclav @redoak if one was planning on acquiring any games, it was not a good deal.
I noticed they shifted the "Community" link from one side of the page to the other a while back, but didn't really consider that a "redesign." All of my Woot bookmarks go to [subdomain].woot.com/today so I'm still not really sure where I'm supposed to look and probably wouldn't know what to see when I got there. I still buy lots more from there than from here (probably a 6 to 1 ratio) so whatevs. #getoffmylawn
@editorkid Just go to their main page and scroll down. Then scroll right. And scroll right again. Scroll right some more.
@cinoclav Or maybe I just go to [subdomain].woot.com? That pretty much shows me anything I need to see and eliminates noise.
I am kind of glad the Lytros are selling well. Cool devices, even if @joelmw would rather just admire his. (I troll.)
@editorkid I've taken some pictures. I don't feel like I've quite gotten the hang of it. I lust for higher resolution.
@joelmw I've had my eye on one for a while. Would you say that it's worth it?
@joelmw Ah, grasshopper, remember, you have 16mp resolution; it's just in a cube, rather than a square. The resolution doesn't bother me any more than the way, say, a Polaroid has so many predefined restrictions. ("Had." Sigh.)
@Willijs3 This guy (over in the Woot forums) is one of the few who gets it and seems to be a fan. His thoughts might help you decide whether or not you'd enjoy playing around with it.
I've posted about a dozen shots here, some of the glasswork I've done and some of a few favorite fountain pens. I've got a bunch more and should upload them, so I'll try to do that in the next couple of days. I guess I'd say as an early filter, if you enjoy playing with depth of field and creative focus in photography, you might enjoy the Lytro.
@editorkid @willijs3 @joelmw I kind of regret not trading mine for a Google Glass when I announced I'd ordered it and someone made that offer. It's neat and a good preview of things to come, but I do feel like it was kind of an expensive toy rather than a real camera. The effects are interesting but the resolution left me wanting more.
I'd have fewer ragrets if I'd have gotten it at $50. For that price, it's a cool toy.
Edit: I speak of the first gen Lytro. I don't have an Illum, which the comments on Woot were for.
@editorkid One of the things I've decided is that at the resolution I've got, macro photography works best. I like your pens, for instance. The effect is less noticeable and less cool (that's right, damnit, this is all about the cool for me) with a larger field.
Also, my access to the software and site has sometimes been blocked at work (yeah, constantly in flux and usually fucked up) and it's inconvenient for me at home. Waaaah.
And I have all sorts of personal problems and limitations. Yes, I'm playing the "dysfunctional (aka normal) human" card.
I still use it. Now I need to see if the upload will work. I've got work to do (stuff I get paid for). You people here are such a pain in the ass. ;-)
@Willijs3 What @editorkid (and that other guy he cites) said. I've had some fun with it and I always tell myself I need to do more. And I do actually from time to time. So I think that's a recommendation for. If you're into visuals and artsy things and physics and light and focus and shit (not literal shit; I mean, maybe, but that's not what I mean), it's got a lot of potential. IMO, if you get a first gen, it's mostly good for small subjects.
@willijs3 @djslack @editorkid Yeah, I've only got the first gen and I picked it up for somewhere around $50. It's a cool toy.
@joelmw It's quite pricy, but the Light L16 is interesting and potentially future lust-worthy…
@editorkid No need to sigh, there's still Polaroid fun to be had via Impossible Project, or alternatively, Fuji Instax. I actually kind of like the tiny Instax film, fun for correspondence.
@editorkid I've uploaded 212 photos. I just haven't made them public. And the PC software doesn't work in my network environment.
@joelmw @djslack @editorkid I think I am going to pass. It would be a cool toy to have, but that's all it would be in the end. For now, I am just going to have to settle for refocusing other people's pictures. Thanks for the info!
@Willijs3 @joelmw @djslack Yeah, the guy I linked to does have the bigger new model, but he also has some thoughts on light field photography in general that I thought made some sense if you're deciding whether to try it. I don't blather to try to convince, just to explain my thought process, because I've got a lot of unusual format cameras, and the 1G Lytro's still one of my favorites that I carry around often. Joel's observation that the 1G's best at smaller subjects is true, but the Lytro support site has a lot of suggestions on how to compose landscapes and urban photography. As the Woot commenter said, learning to compose in 3-D is tough if only because the opportunity isn't always there. As for resolution, that's a print issue, and these are designed never to exist anywhere but on a screen. They're plenty large enough to view on a desktop monitor, and mobile devices' screens create their own problems even for standard photography. Lytro claims it's helping people open-source tools and viewers in case the company dies, but even if light field photography is the trilobite of photography, I'm the guy who liked trilobites, I guess.
And yeah, @djslack, I always wanted to try Google Glass, but it never reached a price point where I'd buy one. (As they started to open up invitations, I got one, but the price was still high and as a prescription-glasses wearer, it was a pain.) It wasn't much of a photography toy, but it was interesting tech nonetheless.
I've seen reports on the Light L16 and the Impossible Project's work, @brhfl, and wouldn't mind playing (especially with the Light L16), but again, it's the price (in both cases) -- I do have a Zink and occasionally amuse my friends' kids by taking a picture and pulling out the print from my cargo pants pocket a few minutes later. I'd get the Lytro Illium if the price dropped to under $300 and, aside from DSLR lenses, I think that's my "I can blow this much money in one year on one photo toy" budget.
Showing the Top Sellers is a good idea. Assuming there is a hot item that I missed somewhere. Trouble is that'll just make it sell out faster.
Edit: Needs a way to sort by price. The mobile app allows you to sort by category then price, but I have to check like 10 categories for cheap items I might not know I need.
@medz Search would be nice. And browse-by categories.
@medz wootstalker.com has some of that.
@Thumperchick Yeah, I use the wootstalker app for sorting all plus sales by price, but it seems like it's not always up-to-date with what is listed and what isn't sold out. In other words, it's basically garbage trash. (kidding, @lichme!)
@Thumperchick
I hope for woot's sake they aren't relying on wootstalker for features that should be on the site in the first place.
I hope for @lichme's sake they are relying on wootstalker for features that should be on the site in the first place.
@ACraigL Given how often Wootstalker is referenced by shirt.woot staff, yes, they're relying on it and are well aware of how dysfunctional the woot site is.
(Speaking of which, did something break with regards to the derby page, @lichme?)
@medz Some stuff doesn't show sold out on wootstalker when it actually is, because it breaks on woot's end. When this happens, I generally notify them and they fix it
@narfcake - Yes, they changed some stuff around which caused my script to stop updating derby entries. I found this out about a week ago. It's on a list to get fixed, but with a new baby, it's hard to find time.
@lichme Ah, okay. I kinda figured that it was changing on Woot's end.
I am not a sleazy drug-addled prostitute. No drugs are involved!
@Del Are you responsible for the body parts?
@Del Ha! Sooo ... have you had any thoughts on taking over where @JonT left off?
@sammydog01 Could be. Could be.
@narfcake Nope. They wouldn't want me. I cause too much trouble.
@Del Gotta ask...how often do you find yourself around the meh forums? Are you a lurker that just hangs out with random posting? OR Do you just come to check out the bitching after Woot comes out with a new feature or issue? :)
@Del Lulz. I heart TT.
@Del And that's an issue? I believe trouble making is a mandatory requirement for working at meh!
@studerc The latter.
@narfcake Yikes. The idea of Meh with iron-fisted Woot-style community "moderation" is easily the scariest thing I've read this Halloween season!
@Starblind
@Thumperchick I went ahead and enhanced it old-timey political cartoon style. Thanks to you and JonT (RIP) for keeping this place safe for dick jokes and fun. May you never lose your St Bernard barrel.
@Del Aww, not you TT. Just the ones that sign your paycheck. You really should jump ship and take over for JonT.
@Starblind @Del is only doing what those above her dictate.
(Who is running the show now that Sam has left?)
@narfcake Ah, the ol' "I vas only followink orders" excuse. Didn't work at the Nuremburg trials, won't work here. I have no idea whether Meh will ultimately soar or fall, but if Meh fails due to making the same stupid mistakes that destroyed Woot, there is absolutely no excuse.
@Starblind eh, other people say that for employees. As a general rule - they don't make that excuse.
I could very well be wrong, but in my understanding, the level of moderation is mostly up to the individual moderator. Some are more laid back, some are more strict with what gets removed. With some exception, of course.
@Del seconded
Any BOC sightings yet?
@stardate820926 One this morning so they seem to be in play.
@stardate820926 One so far, around 9am est.
Edit: Jinx @sammydog01
@stardate820926 Just had another one. Missed it because I was driving my daughter to play practice. Stupid kids.
@sammydog01 The way bags have been, you're not missing anything.
@narfcake I don't care how bad they are. They have me trained to need them. Just like fukus.
@ACraigL I predict the next one will be between 9:50 and 10:30 pm EST because that's when I have to pick my kid up. I see you scored.
@sammydog01 I did score. I'm with @narfcake... If I see one I have to jump. And despite having some real duds, woot has been very good to me in this regard. I've kept a spreadsheet of every single piece of crap I've ever gotten -- literally the contents -- and priced it out at the time on what it was worth (truly, not MSRP or anything).
It's about 10x what I paid. Really. I love the hunt, and yes, some are crap as advertised, but once in a while you can strike gold. These have more than paid for themselves, so I'll continue to try to get them. The only difference is I'm not really disappointed anymore if I don't get one.
@stardate820926 There was one around 3:30 today too.. just missed it -- that is what I keep telling myself :)
@mikibell Seriously? That's when I had to pick up my other kid.
@sammydog01 me too.. :(
@ACraigL Called it, 10:15 pm. I had my poor uninterested daughter following the pebble watch sale on my phone and it ran down to 3% when we pulled in the driveway. Score!
5 minutes ago for another one.
I like the concept of "best of" Woot since there's no way anyone can see everything they're selling, but then 100 still seems a little overwhelming to browse. I could be convinced to keep up with a true top 10 or so.
It's pretty silly to imagine anyone scrolling 4 by 4 through 100 items on the home page, but at least they have a "see all". (Related minor gripe is that you have to click "See more" three times after you've already clicked something that said "See all" to see all.)
If it were me, I'd have sorts and filters on that Best Sellers page and display stats/metrics to show why they were best sellers, but I think they're not quite as into transparency as, well, when it was me over there.
In any case, it's hard for me to see this as worse than rows and rows of Woot Plus sales grouped into non-sensical categories like "garage sale" so I'd say it's a bit of an improvement.
@dave when woot started offering multiple things per day I didn't really understand all the super duper strong feels about it, but they definitely hit critical mass some time ago. where I work, we consider anything more than like 10 rows of data to be "too much to care about" and I think that generally applies to consumers .
@Lotsofgoats That's very true. If people have too many choices all at once there's a much greater chance they'll either pick nothing at all or pick but be unsatisfied with their decision. There's a whole book about it called The Paradox of Choice. It's pretty interesting.
@Starblind I need to explain this to some of our business analysts who seem to think that 5000 rows is too small of a maximum
(╯ಠ益ಠ)╯︵┻━┻
@Lotsofgoats You should get Paradox of Choice book then. Not to make them read it though, just beat them with the book until they agree with you.
@Starblind This. There is a Mexican restaurant in my town with a menu that is at least 20 pages, all dense with choices. They have good food but I almost dislike going there just because of the decision process.
@djslack That's the way I feel at the Cheesecake Factory.
@Del I almost said exactly that, but I've realized I now just get the avocado rolls and fried mac & cheese and ignore everything else.
@Starblind Honda.
@Lotsofgoats I felt the same way, having a couple of extra options was cool at times.. but I think @dave summed it up pretty well, it's just overwhelming. Now it's kind of like a cross between 13deals and a flash sale.
@Starblind That's what happens to me with fabric shopping. I can get so tired from picking out just the right gold for my quilt that I don't want to close the shopping cart and pay for it. (I remember hearing NPR report the original strawberry-jam story.)
What about their twitter feed? Used to be some BOC's would show up there. Now it's just at least 2 REALLY bad jokes a day. Had to unfollow, couldn't take it anymore.
Not even checking wine.woot much anymore. Only looking for Wellington offerings before he retires.
@bluebeatpete In the last 24 hours, there have been at least 6 BOC offerings on Twitter.
@conandlibrarian @bluebeatpete This actually pisses me off more than anything. There's nothing worse than being forced to use some form of social media that you really dislike just to increase your odds of getting something they had always made available through the website. Twitter was, is, and always will be the most annoying form of communication to me.
@cinoclav To be fair, only one bag was offered with each twitter post. I agree if it were exclusive, that would be a problem, but people like to be communicated to in different ways, and I'm sure others can't hang out on the website hoping for crap.
@ACraigL Ironic that you said 'to be fair' as IMO sending a tweet out to that many followers when there's only one single bag to be had is as far from fair as can be. It would be different if they posted one (that they were selling multiples of) and tweeted that it's now available with a link to the page. If someone can't watch the site they would then be alerted and they could go buy it.
@cinoclav I hear you... I avoided twitter for a long time (still not on the facebook) Until I found it was the only way I was going to be able to keep up with bands/musicians I am interested in. Can't be bothered to find out otherwise when somebody has a new album or is coming to town.
Figured I would follow woot and meh for inside info(ie. periscope vids). I don't follow any friends or family, cause they can tell me what's going on directly if they want.
Why do they even do Woot Off anymore? The whole point of that was because normally Woot only sold one thing a day, so selling more than one thing a day was a novelty and fun. But now, they've got a jillion things, all day, every day and every single one of them is on there until they sell out (Or however many days, whichever is first).
The Woot Off has no added value, the prices aren't cheaper and it's just a different firehose of the same shit they had posted all over the site to begin with.
sad head shake
@Deech But stuffed body parts and dirty garden gnomes.
@del Now that there's a Best Seller and other lists that co-mingle the regular Woot & Woot Plus items, why is there still a difference between the two?
Also, thank you for being so good-natured and putting up with crap here and at home.
I would suggest you ask that question on woot. We have a thread just for that. I encourage others to leave feedback there as well. The more specific you can be, the better. http://www.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=6551654
As others have said, it's very clear that the person who had a say in designing the Amazon Gold Box layout had a say in designing the new Woot page.
This is rock bottom.
@axleman1011 the count downs crack me up. they sell the same shit all day long and somehow think people won't notice that somethings sell out several times over.... oh oh, only 53% of the mcaffee is available, better go grab one.
@Mehntok If you look at the sales stats some of the items are selling only a few (possibly none) before they count down. I guess the clock creates a false sense of urgency for the poorer deals, and you can't cancel woot-off items. They catch me on occasion.
@axleman1011 this is the modern woot operating procedure... also in this very example... notice that the total comes out to $19.99... here is the amazon entry:
Normally they come out pretty even (woot price+$5 = amazon prime price)... this time prime won... woot's "deal" costs more than amazons' retail.
When I first read this, I thought it was a thread about Woot redesigning testicles..
It seems kind of unfair to compare them to someone who has a pimp-hand as strong as @snapster's though. He tricked her out and sold her when she was all used up.
@Chops If you redesign them, be sure to add impact resistance.
The appsclusive item yesterday (a leaf sucker/blower) was already for sale in a plus sale for the same price! What a bunch of cart bags!
Craps, not even trying or rare anymore:
@The_Baron For all the rage quitters they're still pretty hard to get.
@The_Baron Nowadays there are less of them offered more often. And for the most part, truly living up to their name.
The last ones I've received were such garbage that I will not buy them any more even when I see them.
You honestly are better off just going and spending $10 at the dollar store.
@zachdecker I'm the same. I've purchased 43 BOCs over the years. Since the Amazon takeover the quality overall has decreased, and they stopped doing those big ticket items which was the big draw for me.
I had held off on purchasing any this year, except for the last woot off. I grabbed one just to see if anything had improved. It was terrible as expected.
I'll pick one up around Christmas (if that happens) and wrap it to open with the other gifts just for tradition (Been doing that for about 5 years).
@Bogie I got a pretty sick gorilla gadgets portable charger, one of the big ones, a few months back.
@willb92 Aww, a sick gorilla.
One of the things I would do if I was retired and really, really, really, really, really bored would be to use curl or whatever to grab all the Woot forums going back as far as I could and parsing them to see how often people complain about Things Changed And I'm Never Coming Back (Until Things Change Again And I'm Never Coming Back Again). I'm reading the thread @Del linked to and it's full of those people, and at least one other thing.
@editorkid About 3-1/2 years ago, I had a loooong "I'm quitting shirt.woot" written to the tune of American Pie.
I held true ... and then they brought in eggplant (purple) AA shirts.
@narfcake I love purple.
@Barney This side ends tonight: http://shirt.woot.com/plus/color-spotlight-eggplant
@narfcake They are now charging $5 for shipping shirts?
@narfcake yes, i bought "racing stripes". love those eggplants
@Barney that's been going for a little bit. they unbundled the shipping. (i think it had gotten to $12 with shipping). now it is 8 plus 5 shipping or 11 for AA. the only people this helps are those buying multiples. now you get the $5 ship everything in your cart so it is a bit of a savings when buying 2 or more or when buying with other items.
@jaybird Aw, that's too bad. I don't want to spend $17.20 for a shirt, even if it's purple. I guess if I really wanted a shirt, I'd buy one from Meh. Much better prices.
@Barney True on the better prices here. However, if you would buy a boc then unlock the free shipping for the rest of the day...(i kill myself with this stuff. lmao)
/me admits to still having a boc addiction.
@jaybird You can also combine things from other site with your shirt purchase now and spread the shipping across more items.
@jaybird I lost interest in boc's because they really became crap (as advertised). However, I did buy one last Woot-off just for laughs. Yep, they are still crap.
@narfcake I loved that.
I was considering combining a BOC with a shirt for the shipping, but they were "sold out" of old shirts for the day.
@jaybird @Barney The three or four bags of crap I've gotten this year have been roughly equivalent to the fukubukuros I've gotten this year. I like them a little better when I feel like someone thought of a little theme for the bag, and that's happened from both vendors. (That's my reading into it, of course. It's not like there's ever been a note like "Please enjoy this box of items that won't hurt if you drop them on your cat" or anything.)
I think I looked at shirt.woot once, saw that it was just illustrated t-shirts, and went away since I don't wear that sort of thing.
@editorkid I know that some people have received boc's that they like and I'm glad you are one of them. I'm just not in any hurry to buy another one. I will... sometime.
@Barney I get that. I've gotten some poor ones lately too. However, my last one had a very nice pair of shoes that were perfect for a birthday gift. For me, I still really enjoy the hunt. I'll still keep after them as long as I have the funds to do so.
@Del Thanks for putting what I meant to say in better words. I still think my TTBOCs were among the best. There was obviously a little more thought put into them. Plus I have that really nice trophy :) Also, I ran out of sandwich bags. If you find any more of them, you know where to send them...HAHA
@jaybird Being an entity (p)owned by Amazon, I would really would like to see them extend Amazon Prime shipping benefits to Woot. Since it's become a refurbished warehouse for them anyway, I'd still like to see shipping taken care of.
@404Error I think they'd be shocked as to how their sales would increase if they added Prime. There are the occasional items that I see and would have considered if I didn't have to pay $5 to ship them. As most items are coming out of the Amazon warehouses to begin with it makes complete sense.
heh
@thismyusername Funny stuff. I took all mine to a second hand store and I got over $30 on consignment! I think they sold them for like $2-$3 apiece.
I have only been shopping on woot for a few years now. I liked it alot, not too much stuff, some really good deals. I'm just sad, that it's not like that anymore. Sad for me cause I really liked shopping on woot.
Well, I'm excited about my pending bag of crap. So there.
@sammydog01 I hope it's a ball
@sammydog01
Unfortunately the disappointment will be there sooner than expected.
@sammydog01 I got one last night. I'm going to wrap it as soon as it arrives and give it to my son and daughter-in-law for Christmas. Nothing says "I love you" on Christmas morning than a box of Corpse Crap.
The all time low as the "bundle box" thing they sold where you paid 20 or 25 bucks for what was sold for 15 dollars separately.
I bought one in the last batch last night. Will struggle to enjoy it.
It's getting kind of ugly over there today in the self-balancing scooter comments. I feel bad for TT.
@pitamuffin I'm drinking heavily. No worries. :P And before you ask, I came to look because I figured someone would mention it. was not disappointed. LOL
@pitamuffin Such a bummer. I'd really like to pull the trigger but with all the drama and BS going on right now, I think I'll take a step back and wait it out.
@studerc $150 is my price point. I have lots of waiting to do.
@Del Have you tried telling them that this is a different distributor than the last sale? They would surely understand that. :)
@medz http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2015-New-Arrival-6-5-inch_60155292475.html
@studerc Same. My kid would like one, so I've been looking. Just can't do it, though.
@cinoclav do you know minimum order size? I only want one.
@medz No idea. There are tons listed, I'd imagine you could find a seller on Alibaba that would sell you one. Or buy a bunch and make some money!
I now only use woot for Candy Basket orders. Its like crack!
They were selling open box (failed) Fire phones unlocked (GSM) for $99. I kinda wanted one, since I worked with that project. Seems sad to see them in the bottom of the Moofi box.
http://sellout.woot.com/offers/amazon-fire-phone-32gb-unlocked-gsm?ref=cnt_wp_13_23
@The_Baron I actually liked mine, but returned it because there is zero AT&T coverage at my house. It really was a cool device.
@conandlibrarian That's why I wanted try one of the unlocked ones with my T-Mobile SIM.
Not sure how much background data is transferred on those though, I think AT&T wasn't counting specific data against the plan.
Amazon's app market is also very weak, but it's easy to side-load apps into the phone. Lots of stuff I want to mess with on that device.
Krampus Eggs- fun new items or overstock junk? Discuss.
@sammydog01 I'm hoping new fun... since I ordered one.
@sammydog01 I feel like it's new packaging for random t's and hoodies. It would be cool to get other things, but I've gotten a few since Monday and I already feel remorse that I'll have 5 new t-shirts I don't like (or already have).
@sammydog01 I've spent so little time there lately I hadn't even seen this. Yeah, if they're asking for sizes I want nothing to do with unless I can see it first. At this point I see a shirt once every 6 months that I'd actually like to own.
@cinoclav What do you mean? I make a new shirt at least once a month.
@ACraigL And as much as I like YOU, I'm sorry to say your designs haven't piqued my interest. Being an Eagles fan doesn't help! Lol
@ACraigL I got one yesterday that appears to be a t-shirt, and I paid shipping too. Those guys are good. Plus nothing ships until the event is over, so we don't know what we bought for the whole month. I'm quite frankly not sure what to think. The random shirts were the same price before the shipping increase. If I snag one a day that's big bucks- I think I need to develop some self control.
@cinoclav There are no eagles fans at the moment. But thanks :)
@ACraigL Off topic, but guess what? I won gif hunting for the first time! Yay me! Guess how many people said congrats? Yep, zero. Now I have a $5 coupon for a free egg if I can type it in time.
@sammydog01 congrats!
@Thumperchick Awww, thanks for responding to my fishing.
@sammydog01 Ha. Was that the one where you copied someone else's response and didn't know why you actually won?
I hope so, because that's like the best win ever. Congrats to you my friend!!
@ACraigL Maybe :P Are they pissed off? I was refreshing the contest page to know when to quit, so I wasn't actually trying to cheat. But all's fair, right?
@sammydog01 Nah! That's hilarious. And you were due. Bask in the glory of your $5 coupon. Well earned, IMO.
Woot, is still online? whyfor?
@supichoo Because Amazon needs an outlet store.
@cinoclav Use of the term outlet store seems too . . . respectable.
@Pavlov yea doesn't outlet store imply a discount? :)
I prefer them selling oddities, rather than just warehouse Amazon refurbs. One of the things I used to really like about woot was when strange items came up.
@GFhgfdj Did you see the plush internal organs at the last Woot-off?
@sammydog01 You mean like the one pictured at the top of this thread?
@ACraigL Do balls count as internal? Inquiring minds want to know.
@Thumperchick. I got spammed- see two posts above.
@sammydog01 Persistent fella, ain't he? (They're working on getting him/her banned for us.)
{I removed the spam comments already}
Woot is offing today. I managed to get a BOC. Never got one before. How disappointed should I get ready to be?
@Mehntok Expect dollar store crap. That way, if/when you get something that isn't dollar store crap, you'll be happy! This advice applies to any and all mystery bags on all sites. Set your expectations as low as possible to avoid the sads.
@Mehntok Expect crap- the fun is in the forums. Say you hope for something outlandish, you may get it in some form or other. I consider it $5 of entertainment value more than a chance to get really good stuff.
@Thumperchick these?
@MEHcus Yep, them's the sads alright.
@sammydog01 @Thumperchick
Sounds good. And yeah, this is about my level of expectations for fukus as well; i'm buying a bit of fun and a few white elephant gifts. Anything else is bonus.... I seem to remember seeing people talk about getting literal trash in BOCs though, which probably isn't fun. but maybe my memory is exaggerating.
I got suckered into buying one of the boxes that includes the kitten mitten because, well, kitten mitten. Then the free shipping got me to stick around ... damn amazon marketing strategies.
@Mehntok I have gotten actual trash in a few BOC's. It's not all that was in there, but it's happened.
@Thumperchick
Funny you should mention keeping expectations low.
When i told my brother that people were getting Roombas, he told me not to get my hopes up.
I didn't, and since the universe is out to get me, it decided to prove me wrong...
@FroodyFrog and yet you still bitched about the lack of a meh bag.
@Thumperchick
As it turns out, I fell into my own trap of not being able to tell when someone is sarcastic or not on the internet.
I've been teaching myself to detect sarcasm (first in real life, then online), but it did not occur to me until earlier this week that i didn't specify i was being sarcastic about being upset...
Come to think of it, the toilet sticker I sent to Meh was supposed to be an apology gift, but I left it out of the gift note. Hmmm...
@Mehntok. They almost got me with the kitten mitten too.
Anyone see the 'buy a story for a buck' thing on woot where they'll call you and read you a lame story? Have to give them credit for that line in rule #2.
"This call is not a question and answer session. We will not tell you when the next BOC is for sale. We will not tell you why your order was late. We will not tell you why we suck so much since being purchased by Amazon. We read. You listen."
@cinoclav I bought it. Mostly to get a phone number that I can call back anytime and spam with unsolicited pics of my junk.
@medz It's sold out. Let me know how it goes.
@medz I'm actually borrowing @matthew's phone, so I'll let him know to be ready
@medz they usually use Skype, because they know we're dicks like that.
Just need to vent because Woot is seriously pissing me off this weekend. I bought my kids these shoes on the 29th. Well, the pink pair came yesterday and it was a Women's size 6 instead of the Women's size 8 that I ordered. So, I opened a support ticket explaining that they sent the wrong size and that I'd like an exchange (one of the options [when stock is available] when opening a ticket). This is the response I got:
"Hello,
Sorry to hear that the size you purchased does not fit. Unfortunately, we can't accommodate exchanges or refunds on items ordered in the wrong size. We also do not facilitate exchanges. We include a sizing chart on the order page to alleviate errors. Please view our FAQ (www.woot.com/faq) for more information.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Regards,
Woot Member Services"
So, I responded with this:
"Did you not read what I wrote? I ordered the correct size, however Woot did not send the size that I ordered. The reason it doesn't fit is because I was sent something different than what I ordered."
And received this in response:
"Hello,
I'm so sorry about the problem you had with your item. Unfortunately, we do not have any replacements to send you. We have two options: (1) We can issue a partial refund in the amount of $5 and you keep the item, OR (2) We can issue an RMA with a prepaid return label and you can return it for a full refund. Please let us know how you would like to proceed.
Regards,
Praveen

At this point, I've realized they've sold out of the 8s, but still have the 8.5 in stock. I figure that will work for my daughter to grow into, at least. So, I respond:
"I do not want to keep them since they are not the size I ordered and are too small. However, I'm willing to accept the in-stock Womens size 8.5 in exchange (it's a half size up from what I ordered and was supposed to receive). So, please send me a label to send these back and send me the slightly larger size you have in stock."
They respond again:
"Hello,
We can send the RMA but we cannot perform an exchange or we cannot send any other shirt. If you still like to return the package, please write to us so that we can assist you right away.
Regards,
Viswanath
Woot Member Services"
Shirt? What the hell is she talking about. Now I'm starting to get more than a little pissed. This should not be that fucking difficult for them to correct their mistake. Respond again:
"Why can't you do an exchange to fix your company's mistake? Also, this has nothing to with a shirt. Please escalate this to a manager since no one who has responded so far has actually read what I've written or understands the issue. This is ridiculous."
Of course, they have not responded since then. This may be the final straw for me. I've been a Woot member since July 2005. Customer service has almost always been topnotch when I've had issues. I've been lucky so far, but Woot is ruined. I just want the fucking shoes that I ordered, you know? I haven't gotten the second pair yet and am praying they are correct, at least.
This screen shot shows they claim they will do exchanges if items are still in stock, so either the reps don't follow policy, or Woot lies about their policy.
@PurplePawprints Woot is just a shell of its old self and I'm sorry you are having this problem. I decided some time ago that I am no longer ordering anything from them. It makes me sad.
@PurplePawprints They have had horrible customer service problems lately. A lot of people are turning to the forums for help which is bad.
@sammydog01 I've tried that, too. I've posted on the forums twice (granted, it's the weekend and forum support may not be around) with no response at all.
@PurplePawprints My next-to-last order there (Sep 2014) was for sheets. I ordered queen, they sent double, and our exchanges were almost identical to yours. I was not happy with their half price 'restitution', but as life lessons go, it wasn't that expensive. My final order was for 'flavored honey', which turned out to be honey flavored fruit puree. I will occasionally vote for shirts, and that's all.
@OldCatLady I order t-shirts and golf balls but I would have to think long and hard about ordering something that costs more than I am willing to throw away.
It has been so long since I trusted Woot to get something right that I've really lost track of when I thought it started going south. I ended up participating in a contest that was entertaining (and besides, the symbol for the group I was in was a bottle and glass of wine), and part of the points accrued if I bought a BOC. I was finally persuaded to do it (I was very reluctant), and then took the expected pix of it, posting in the thread for it. After a couple of weeks, I removed all the personal info from my account (I'd already done it once, but put it back briefly for the contest).
They used to have a wide range of good wines, which I liked. Wine was the majority of my Woot purchases for the last few years. The last wine I bought was May, 2014 (and it was, shall we say, disappointing). Before that, it was December, 2013.
I keep waiting for MEH to have something I can't resist. It'll happen. I've known me a long, long time.
The Woot old guard (the very few that are left) are still excellent, but honestly, they're spread very thing. Deals has moved from having pure, rotten garbage as sponsored deals, to extending them for two or three days. It's some sad, sad business.
My, my, how I do run on.
@PurplePawprints It makes me cry a little on the inside when I think about how bad one of my favorite sites has become. Maybe @Del can point you (or them) in the right direction?
@Shrdlu gosh i miss Deals. Back in the day, that was the place to be. Tons of deals, competition, and friendly community engagement. The meh forums are nice...but i have had to find other outlets for deal hunting. A damn shame.
@PurplePawprints I received the "partial refund" offer after they sent me a variety pack of caramel with half the variety that was stated. Eventually someone took over the issue, gave me a full refund, and "let" me keep it. I would have preferred getting what I ordered, but getting to try overpriced caramel for free was pretty nice.
@darksaber99999
The important question though is: was the caramel at least good?
@FroodyFrog Yeah, and I've since ordered more directly from the farm's website.
@PurplePawprints According to @Del it's your fault for ordering at woot.
@PurplePawprints
Last time I ordered from woot was this AOC monitor, pretty good deal for a 27in. Delivery was also quick, delivered a couple days later on April 2nd. I opened the box and noticed the screen was damaged, something in the box smashed it right in the middle.
I contacted support and they responded the next day with an RMA. When I asked if I could just get an exchange, since I still wanted the monitor, they said they could not.
"Unfortunately I do not have any replacements available to send you."
In the meantime, the deal was moved from deals.woot to Computers.woot for a weekly sale, just around the same time they sent the email. Wait a second..."You have the stock, why can't you just issue an exchange?" After a back and forth, "We know it's tough to hear, but as we only have a certain amount of inventory available per our fulfillment center we must adhere to what they have available for replacement versus what is available for sale only "...etc and more bullshit. They said to just buy another one from that deal and just wait for the RMA to process for the refund.
Luckily, since I actually had funds to just do that, I gave up and just bought the second one. It took three weeks for them to process the refund.
As you can see on the second link:
First Sucker:
MTDanger
A sucker indeed, that is me.
(The screen is great though, hooked my FireTV up to it and some speakers to the 3.5 output, makes a good TV)
@PurplePawprints Tagging @Del on this just to see if she can help. The outsourced CS is definitely terrible. I have had similar issues with a shirt misprint and they apologized I purchased the wrong size.
Having run an overseas group like that before though, I understand how challenging it can be. Hopefully Del can make it right, or help a bit. So frustrating.
@ACraigL I believe @purplepawprints has been taken care of. I would like to note that while I understand the interest in complaining about woot here on Meh, it's not the place to post for help. You need to do that on our site. Manhands and I watch the forums vigilantly for issues.
@Del So here's the thing. I did post on the forums before venting (not posting for help) here. Twice. There was never a response from anyone. So, either you guys are not as vigilant as you think, or you chose to ignore me. If by "taken care of" you mean I was told that Woot doesn't do exchanges on "Marketplace" sales, even if the sale is still active, then yeah, I guess I was taken care of. It would be nice to know in advance which items are being sold through this "Marketplace" so I know to avoid them, but I guess I'm just going to have to avoid Woot completely after ten years there.
I'll eventually get refunded for the shoes that were sent in the wrong size, and if I had seen the last response from a Woot rep the night before the sale ended, I could have ordered the shoes again and hoped that I'd be sent the correct size, but then I would have had to pay shipping again because my shipping isn't being refunded. As it was, it got lost among some other crap in my Inbox and I didn't see it until the next morning after the sale ended. I just do not understand why, if they really couldn't do an exchange, (even though their policy says they do) they couldn't have placed an order on my account and shipped out the right size. I mean, I've been a loyal customer for over ten years. It's not like I was trying to scam them for an extra pair of $40 shoes.
@PurplePawprints This sucks. It really does.
I just went through my order history, and I've spent close to $4500 dollars there over the years, but last year alone I bought over $1700 worth of stuff (finances are a little better now than in past years). Even with all the negative changes, I was buying more, and buying more expensive things like 2 laptops, 2 tvs, security surveillance systems, and other electronics. Their unwillingness to make good on their $40 screwup is going to cost them any future purchases I would have made. And, even with all the changes I've still been recommending them to people, just with the caveat that they'll need to price-check other sites. This experience means I no longer feel comfortable recommending them at all.
@PurplePawprints private message me over on woot so I can follow up.
@PurplePawprints I found your posts. I was extremely ill and unable to work Friday to Sunday so MH covered for me after already having worked a full week. I hope you'll forgive us on missing your posts.
@Del I was never frustrated or upset with the two of you, anyway. I know sometimes you can help push things through, but my frustrations were solely with the Account/Order Customer Service reps. I didn't complain about the lack of response from either of you, I just pointed out that I did indeed try that route. Regardless, I'm sorry to hear that you were unwell and hope that you are fully recovered now.
It's funny, in the past, anytime I complained about woot! I'm told to "get over it" or to "move on" or "why am I so concerned about what they are doing". So now there is a huge thread about woot! and now it appears to be ok to bitch about woot!. So confused......Maybe there is an official woot! bitching club, like Fight Club, but you're not allowed to talk about it...
@somf69 you should take it personally.
@somf69 You're confused? Get over it. :)
@somf69 they were in the denial or bargaining stage, now they have moved on to acceptance :)
@thismyusername or they were waiting for you to be goat so it would be your fault.
@ceagee they can still save woot... here is my simple formula....
HAVE ACTUAL DEAL PRICES INSTEAD OF PRIME MINUS $5
The above advice is offered free of charge to amazon llc.
They suck. I ordered 2x from them. The 2nd time I never got my item because they sold more than they had in stock. I had to beg for a refund. I found out about meh from a friend emailing me the 2for Tuesday purple ziploc bags. I did not know it was 1 item a day or Tuesday was a 2 for 1 deal. I got hooked. The meh community also keeps me addicted. You guys are great!
@Mellaine I love purple.
But I will say I bought some nice shit from them over the past month. Not meh quality shit, a little more expensive shit, but still some nice shit and the shit showed up on time. So I gotta say as much as they suck shit, they weren't that shitty with me. I still hate them, I wish they would eat shit and die and @snapster would buy the site back and go back to selling better shit there
Geez they screwed up the monkeys. Woot is turning into Overstock.com meets Zulilly. Whoever the artdirectator is just doesn't get it at all.
I just got an email from woot!
"How you doing there? I guess you’re a bit bummed that you missed the BOC this morning. Wootbot has noticed that you’re trying to backdoor the system by going straight to iwantone. You’re waking him up and he’s getting grumpy. You don’t want wootbot cranky so could you stop trying to do this? It ain’t gonna work.
Sincerely
*Wootbot’s Sleep Service"*
@medz Weird. Were you even on Woot today?
@sammydog01 probably a bit of traffic from my external ip.
@medz I don't know what that means but it was pretty funny.
@medz Very odd. But much friendlier than cease and desist. Or IMAP.
@medz No means no. The system doesn't do that kind of stuff.
@RedHot Exit only. Gotcha.
