@IndifferentDude@kathyl I think Snoopy is related to my dog…she weighs about 16 lbs but takes up at least enough space for a morbidly obese St. Bernard!
Many, many moons ago, I bought a hammock and a hammock stand here, and it has been great! I’d really like to buy another for my kid for his mom’s place… but since we’re relatively urban, we need the hammock STAND as well.
Please sell a hammock stand in the near future. Please.
@haydesigner I too need a stand! I bought the hammock from that sale, the stand was gone by the time I was ready to buy. Stinks, because stands aren’t usually inexpensive.
@haydesigner@Kyeh I wish it was, but it’s just a convenient photo borrowed from the interwebs. (I do have lots of colorful trees right now, but not the nicely manicured grounds. )
So the guy’s reading C.J Box’s Nowhere to Run while camping? Doesn’t seem too wise…
“It’s Joe Pickett’s last week as a temporary game warden in the mountain town of Baggs, Wyoming, but his conscience won’t let him leave without checking out the strange reports coming from the wilderness: camps looted, tents slashed, elk butchered. What awaits him is like something out of an old campfire tale, except this story is all too real—and all too deadly.”
68.5 oz total? That’s what, four and a quarter pounds? Seems heavy for a camping hammock, at least if you’re hiking.
From the Amazons:
Hi how much does this bundle weigh?
Answer this question
A: Hello Erin,
We appreciate your interest in our product. It means so much to us.
This hiking gear contains an ultralight tarp with an outdoor hammock that weighs only 42/50 oz combined, along with an ultralight bug net. Each component is designed for travel and folds down to a compact size that makes them easy to pack.
I hope this helps. Feel free to reach us for anything.
All the best,
Cristina

No idea what 42/50 oz is, but it sounds like it’s still heavy.
@stinks Well considering you need 2 ropes for the hammock and one for the tarp along with the weight of the netting and tarp I am not surprised it is closer to tent weight.
The one below is about half the weight… and 10 times the price. This is the XL too; the lighter ones only support 200 lbs, though neither reaches the 400 here.
@stinks That’s true. It would work well for car camping presuming there were trees. On the other hand some of the backpacking hammocks are tiny and thin which is one of the ways they go light.
@jgoldshlag To be flat (but you can’t do that with this hammock since it is only 4.5’ wide, you need a double to do that) you sleep across it rather than head at one end and feet at the other. If you have the ropes really tight then it is relatively flat with sleeping with your head at one tie off end and feet at the other.
I have this set up, having purchased everything separately on discount. This is a deal. Only thing missing is their under quilt. The hammock/tree straps alone are $30 on Amazon or $90 for the whole set.
@sylentryder Agree about the under quilt. I have a hammock that I set up between two trees for summer naps. Even on a reasonably warm day, a little breeze can make it uncomfortably cool underneath. A blanket spread underneath me makes all the difference. (However, it can be tricky to keep the blanket in place as you get in the hammock!)
i’ve had the 2 person version of this hammock for a couple years now and love it. i did end up getting different straps because i wanted longer ones with more loops so the boy could use it indoors.
@carl669@ExtraMedium Great set-ups all-around! Motorcycle trip? What awesome fun was that? Beats my mid-Atlantic coastal city drive to the ID panhandle and back in a Honda HR-V (not complaining about HR-V, mind you. I love my carj. It just seems like it would’ve been fun on a motorcycle but there was that blizzard in MT on my way back home on Labor Day (2019) . . . so maybe motorcycle for southern US XC trip!).
@talv0002 I started up in Seattle and went down the coast to San Francisco before cutting through the middle of the country. This was in July/August so it snow was not an issue but the blazing heat in Nevada, Utah, and Texas made it interesting. I actually went through Montana on my way back to Seattle. Riding through Glacier National Park was one of the best bits of the whole trip.
@ExtraMedium@talv0002 I so wish I could have seen Glacier closer than 45 miles away. Kid was doing a soccer tournament outside of the park (I lived in northern ID at the time). We saw it in the distance (had to shovel snow off the field too). About half of us disloyal parents were privately rooting for the kids to lose on Saturday so we could go to Glacier and look around the rest of Saturday and on Sunday before the 7 or 8 hour drive home. Drive to the tournament was gorgeous. For part of the time the road was along a shallow but wider stream/river, blue sky. Absolutely beautiful. Wish we had had time to stop.
@carl669 I’ve always wanted a hammock inside, and a Nagheads hammock chair and also the double swing hammock chair. Never lived where I had the freedom to drill holes in the ceiling or a room big enough to hang a hammock. ENVY!!!
@notyoutoo We bought 3 of the double (wide, heh) versions of this for an arts/music festival my wife works for. 2/3 held up fine. 1 split, probably due to overzealous swinging by some kids.
Amazon honored the return, no problem.
I recently camped in a Bear Butt version of the same, with a makeshift rainfly (cheap blue tarp), and no bug net. It was… ok. My back felt better than sleeping on a pad in a tent, but it was little cumbersome dealing with a sleeping bag, tiny camping pillow, and a noisy tarp.
Thankfully no bugs at this site, but would definitely want for other locations.
Willing to get this just for the bug net + tarp, and a single might be nice for a quick nap. We’ll see.
They canceled my order weeks after the purchase. Usually Meh is a good site, but this was very disappointing. Someone else ordered it at the same time as me and they got their order.
@danrodz@unisterio@PHRoG Hey there, looks like they sold fast enough that the warehouse stock numbers hit zero a bit before the site updated. You’ll get a full refund and should also get a coupon for a future purchase in a separate email.
Those are tricky because if we send the coupon email before the cancellation you write in to ask what was canceled and if we send them after you write in to ask why it was canceled without notice. No real win, but you can shoot an email to support@meh.com if don’t end up seeing the coupon email.

@somf69 I’m a Cheese Waffles fan myself.
@somf69 I really miss their barbecue flavor.
@lisagd @somf69
I’ve never heard of those before!
Cheese waffle
@werehatrack finally someone else that recognizes the fact the the flavor is nothing like original!!
@Lynnerizer @somf69 Now I want to go buy some. I haven’t had them in years.
Let me sleep on this offer; I’ll get back to you in the morning.

@IndifferentDude Snoopy really needs to give Woodstock a little more room, poor little guy…
@IndifferentDude @kathyl I think Snoopy is related to my dog…she weighs about 16 lbs but takes up at least enough space for a morbidly obese St. Bernard!
Hamhocks go great with bean soup.
In for a pound.
Is this weight cap accurate? I’ve been burned with one of these before.
@boygenius1991
I thought it was flame retardant
@boygenius1991 @somf69 Only for direct flame. Repeated chafing is not covered.
Time to Hunker Down with a hammock like this
@LMValor You watch him, too? First thing I thought of when I saw this item! I actually looked over the specs to see if they included “snake skins”…
The hammock district is on hard times huh?

@haydesigner You can have these, just pay the shipping.
@haydesigner
@macromeh Is that your actual property?
@haydesigner @Kyeh @macromeh
I know right, I’d love to see that every day!
Nevermind that they’re perfect hammock trees… They’re BEAUTIFUL!
@haydesigner @Kyeh I wish it was, but it’s just a convenient photo borrowed from the interwebs. (I do have lots of colorful trees right now, but not the nicely manicured grounds. )
@haydesigner @macromeh @Lynnerizer
Oh, okay - it certainly is a gorgeous spot.
The bug netting pushed me over the edge…
/giphy patronizing-fat-light
Going camping with my neglectful-reliable-jellyfish! Just need to find two trees that close together out here on the Plains…
Trees not included. A shame, because this is otherwise a great deal, but there are NO trees here ever since hurricane season in 2004.
@PooltoyWolf Well, the best time to plant a tree is 18 years ago. The second best time is now.
Seriously? Nobody replanted any trees? Probably have lush green lawns full of pesticide and fertilizer instead…
@Weboh I just meant our yard! LOL
@PooltoyWolf @Weboh
Never mind the bug net & rainfly stuff, is there a defroster/deicer/space heater available for it, cuz it’s getting HELLA cold up in this hizzie!
You people are just really different, shall I say. I have not met any of you(I hope), but please stay on the other side of the street if I do.
@bfg9000 No worries. We will all be in our hammocks and you can walk on by…

@ybmuG Hah - it’s like a little hidden joke; I certainly wouldn’t have spotted that.
@ybmuG Well done, sir.

So I don’t know that it’s unexpected at this price, but this is not a “haha my pack is a third as heavy as yours” hiker’s dream.
@stinks That’s true. It would work well for car camping presuming there were trees. On the other hand some of the backpacking hammocks are tiny and thin which is one of the ways they go light.
Not bad for lounging, but a nine foot hammock won’t be comfortable to sleep in for longer than a quick nap

In for one for my son.

FYI, the hammock is a single, not the double. Still a good deal.

hopefully not too heavy

@carl669 We have 3 of them (and now a fourth on the way) and keep rigging set under our patio all year.
I also used today’s exact setup as my camping kit when I did a 6,000 mile cross-country motorcycle
camping trip.
I was able to set it up in minutes and even cover my bike at each stop.

Ditto here, got cancelled today…was a gift I intended to give too (not Xmas) that I already revealed and they were stoked about.
Earlier notice, along with a real explanation should’ve definitely happened here.
For sure disappointed. 🫤
