Why do you think Meh sends broken/returned shit out in fuko bags?
1Couple of possibilities
- They don’t have anything else to do with it.
- They think we are stupid enough to get excited over something of value even if it is broken.
- They think we might be smart enough to fix it.
- People have sent them shit they want to get rid of.
- They love the idiotic comments people make when they receive this worthless junk.

@hallmike Some of that heavy crap must cost alot to send-hard to believe its cheaper than taking all that to the dump at one time.
@Felton10 Bulk shipping discounts.
@narfcake never shipped in bulk but the of that heavy stuff must cost alot to package and ship.
@Felton10 It balances out. Eventually. Not everything costs $5 to ship and not every VMP takes full advantage of the free shipping.
@narfcake I’m not sure we should delude ourselves into thinking they really make anything on VMP memberships. I mean they might but that would be one hell of a shipping discount, more likely I’d expect the normal shipping pays dividends en mass.
Isn’t that what a fuko is all about? Buying a mystery bag knowing you are most likely getting crap, with the slight chance of something amazing.
@conandlibrarian No its trying to convenience your wife that there wasn’t something better to spend your $ 5 on.
@Felton10 If you were conveniencing your wife the right way…it would cost you more than $5.
Darn that auto-correct!
One man’s trash…is another man’s fukobukuro.
Because most of it can be fixed. They obviously don’t have the time to fix 500-600 broken devices, but 400 people do. They’ve already turned a profit on the rest of the stock, so they’re happy to give it to someone that can make use of it.
I’m glad they do it.
@capguncowboy I let you know if I agree with you if I can fix the broken Meta smartwatch I just got in my fuko bag.
@Felton10 good luck. I got one in a Fuku bag back in February (I think). I couldn’t get it to do anything but vibrate. My wife did something with it
But seriously, after a few combined sessions, totaling a couple of hours, I ended up tossing it out.
@Felton10 is it not turning on or not connecting? i just had the not connecting problem with my meta earlier today
@communist Once charged-its on-its shows a screen that says “Welcome-Lets get started>” but when I push the button to the right of the > nothing happens or it just goes back to the Meta trademark screen and then after a few seconds returns to the Welcome screen again.
@Felton10 have you paired it to a phone?
@communist Nope-downloaded the app and tried to have the phone recognize it as bluetooth device, but can’t get to the screen on the watch to make that happen.
@Felton10 there are 2 meta apps . one for the strata and frame and the other app for the meta m1, are you sure you have the right app for the watch?
@communist Pretty sure I used the one for the M1 which is the type of watch I have-should it have recognized the watch right away without having even done anything to or on the watch?
@Felton10 yes, thats how it works on my frame
@communist Did have the wrong app -thanks-deleted the old one and installed the correct one and pushed pair button on phone-phone scanned for devices and same as before-nothing.
@Felton10 go into setting in your phone bluetooth section, do you see your watch in the bluetooth device list?
@Felton10 found this http://www.userlib.com/metawatch-m1-user-manual/
. Turning on Bluetooth on the devices
@communist Phone keeps saying “no bluetooth devices found”. Screen on phone never changes from what I told you it shows.
@Felton10 yup that means watch isnt broadcasting bluetooth signal ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@communist Once I get the correct size screwdrivers, am doing to take off the back, take out the battery and clean all the contacts (another meh user suggested this) and see if that does any good. Otherwise this baby has a date with the trash can.
@Felton10 I have one I bought here, but I lost the charger, it worked in a Meh. fashion but wasn’t horrible looking. It’s yours for the cost of shipping…
@Yoda_Daenerys-Thanks for the offer-do you know what model you have. Assume the same charger works with all models. I am going to take one more shot at repairing it over the weekend when I get my screwdrivers. May just decide to forget the whole thing as (a) I am not attached at the hip to my cell phone like some people and (2) with wearing a watch and a activity tracker already not sure the watch would do me a whole lot of good because of the first item I mentioned. If I decide not to take you up on your offer and to throw mine away, i wouldn’t mind send you the charger for free if you are interested.
@Felton10 September 2nd 2015 12:41am ET was the purchase time, Meta M1 Smartwatch (Silver), sure i’d use the charger if you are planning to pitch it
@Yoda_Daenerys I’ll let you know what I am going to do after I fool around with the watch a little more this weekend.
@Yoda_Daenerys if @Felton10 doesnt want it, ill pay shipping for it. need a new hobby to screw around with .
@communist do you have the requisite propietary charger that i’ve lost?
@Felton10 Try updating the firmware on the watch, it fixed the one I have.
@StrangerDanger how do I update the firmware if I can’t get the watch to go past the welcome screen?
And where do I get the firmware update? Thanks
@Yoda_Daenerys i have the meta frame charger, and from the looks of close up pics of the m1, is uses the same 4 pin slightly curved layout
@Felton10 the computer does the update when hooked up. Try http://support.metawatch.com/customer/portal/articles/858691-windows-update-instructions
@StrangerDanger thats only for the strata and frame. @felton10 has a meta m1

It’s common enough that broken shit is “broken” because of the last user.
Going back into the mid-2000’s, I picked up a $1200 color laser printer outside an office dumpster. The problem? There was a piece of paper stuck inside next the back roller, causing it to jam. 3 minute fix, and I ended up reselling it for $350.
The two vacuum cleaners before my $15 Dysons were curbside finds in which the issue of why they weren’t sucking was because the hose was clogged.
One of my thrift store lamp fixtures was a RMA “missing hardware”. Nope - it was mounted on the lamp already!
@narfcake I think I’m falling in love with you!
I fix broken stuff and resale it all the time. I don’t do it for a living, I do it because I like fixing broken stuff – and why not get paid for it too?
This is a pretty good list for slide titles from a presentation called Why You Should Send Broken Shit To Your Customers.
Except we don’t get enough #4. Some. But not enough to feel we’ve got to come up with an elaborate event to dispose of it.
@dave Oh, don’t tempt ̶m̶e̶ the community. We can make it happen
@dave Set up a community E-waste drop-off.
@capguncowboy problem is I don’t think the post office accepts VMP in reverse LOL @Dave can we send the stuff to you C.O.D.?
I hate to be the substitute English teacher today, but:
Couple ofA few possibilities:@Yoda_Daenerys Hey-what do I know-As a CPA I deal with numbers all day.
@Yoda_Daenerys Tagging @fishbiscuit, who is an English teacher when she’s not busy drawing cute geeky things or catshirts …
@narfcake rut rooh
I got a Roomba in a Fuku. It was “broken”. Took me about an hour to figure out that the weird Roomba battery pack thingy was inserted incorrectly. Fixed that and now it runs very well.
I got an RMA mp3 player that claimed the power button didn’t work when held down except the power button was slide action. Boombox was RMA too in same Fuko and nothing was wrong with it. I think some people claim it’s broke just to send it back. Also got a “broken” metawatch, it didn’t work until I updated the firmware and works great now.
I received an open box tablet… The battery was dead, so I left it to charge. With a full battery indicator, as soon as I unplug the charger, it shuts down. Any ideas? I think it is a Haier brand tablet.
@mikibell probably bad battery, whats the model number of the tablet
@communist HG-9041 9"Tablet …and it is a Haier
I used to work in retail, and know first hand that a lot of the items that get returned to the store still work. Just that open has opened it, used it, and either a.)returned it without the box, directions, etc. or b.) returned it and it was “missing pieces.”
So it would get processed and sent to a return good centers. The RGC would then sell pallets of stuff to the highest bidder for the company. Those companies would then try to resell it.
Honestly cannot tell you how many bicycles, TVs, and bicycles I had returned. It was a lot!
