@RedOak Not much to look at, but baby girl got some pipes, innit. All her studio music is mixed and processed to the point even I might sound good. But under all that preprogrammed electronic disco, lollipop got a set of lungs.
@RedOak I’m in complete agreement. But in that video, when you can hear her actual singing voice… she’s can sing. It’s a shame she squanders that talent on what she’s doing, when she’s capable of making real music.
I can’t imagine that most pop today will be listened to in a decade. Adele might be the best-known current exception.
They will simply replace the last dancing attractive provocative cover-ready singer with the next up-and-comer - and it’s a shame, because some of these singers have huge talent. I would love to see Lady Gaga break her own mold.
It seems the % of hyper-processed (both aurally and visually) singers is too close to 100%.
A typical example - who cannot sing a note… and who one suspects might even be truly plain if not ugly without makeup (not that it should matter for a vocalist): Katy Perry. It is excruciating to watch her attempt to sing.
I’ll stick with my favorite finely tuned personal Bryan Ferry Pandora channel. (Seeded also with David Byrne and Sting, amongst many others… with a dash of War for spice.)
@f00l I don’t think singers like Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lana DelRey, Norah Jones, Joss Stone, or even Christina Aguilera & Demi Lovato (not to mention Adele) are going anywhere. They have tremendous voices - which should give them staying power. A “provocative cover-ready up-and-comer” might flash & spike higher, but will burn out & fade away unless they can match the prowess of those others.
@compunaut
Was talking particularly about the “dance show” attractive pop singers and groups that come and go. The ones who are picked as much for looks or prior fame or marketability as anything else, who put on an updated Vegas act with a focus on the star. The music often appears to be written by machine and tweaked by a “hits specialist.” Same for the dance choreography. And they’re often singing to a pumped up backing track.
The ones you mentioned I find all for real. I also don’t think of them as pop.
But then modern categories of music intended to be mass-marketed hits have me all confused.

the better question is why are they driving a jeep
Lack Of Character and Bad Karma.
Because I know you intended to include it.
@RedOak Whoa-whoa-whooo…

@ruouttaurmind I almost detest her music.
