I'm watching the marathon right freaking now! Eccleston will always be my favorite. He was an angry, rough and tumble Doctor who could also be funny. I was heartbroken that he only lasted the season.
@Foxborn Actually, it came to light that he and the producers did not get along, but that it was not as one-sided as it first appeared. He was understandably pissed off about things that went down privately between them. But they were he ones who got caught throwing him under the bus. They ended up publicly apologizing and admitting that they were misleading people about events that occurred. He was a wonderful Doctor and a great way to reboot the show. That said, there are relationships that are simply toxic, because of both sides, and it appears this was one. But it doesn't take away in the slightest from my ability to appreciate both the show and his character.
@mfladd sorry, I was on my way into a movie and didn't read the whole post.
I love David Tennant, but Matt Smith is my Doctor. His first episode was my first episode (I had watched Torchwood Children of Earth and decided I needed to see what Doctor Who was all about). I watch all of Matt's first season and then went back and watched all of Christopher Eccelston and David Tennant. I still want to watch more classic who but just haven't had time yet.
The Day of the Doctor is my favorite episode and I love love love the weeping angels!!!'
@jaremelz what about the adventures of Sarah Jane? ;) I wish they had finished with what was already filmed. But I completely understand when Liz passed away.
@jaremelz Of recent note it has to be David Tennant. He just seemed to garner a more emotional response with his sidekicks Rose Tyler, Martha Jones & Donna Noble. But I do also love Clara!
@mfladd Because I was so sad to lose Eccleston, it took me a while to really love Tennant. But knowing his history with Doctor Who, I became more accepting of him. And then if course, loved him. Clara is awesome, but I adored Amy and Rory. Theirs was an amazing story. Any talk of great characters can't leave out River Song! I have a total girl-crush on her.
Eta: I am completely on my own all day today, and have a ton of things I could be doing. Instead, I'm glued to the tv. Dang it!
@jaremelz I felt the same way when Smith replace Tennant, but I slowly warmed up to him.
I always felt like the transition from Eccleston to Tennant was a really natural continuation. It worked because he was in such an emotional state after the time war that it made sense for him to quickly go from the angry 9th Doctor to the 10th Doctor who was masking his emotions behind humor and fun, but let out a little wrath every once in a while.
@supafly150 Isn't it funny, they've done such a brilliant job of finding highly different actors to continue the Doctor, yet we always find ourselves enjoying them. After I was able to distance myself from the loss of Eccleston, I really did appreciate the transition. Alternately, I have had zero problem loving Capaldi from the start!
I have always liked Tennant, but Capaldi is an amazing actor, and is poised to become my favorite Doctor if he keeps the role and keeps delivering great performances.
He had so much more emotional depth and complexity. He could be light, funny and playful, but he wasn't 98% goofy like Smith. There were always layers, with him... heaviness lurking below the surface. His darker moments were compelling. And he had a certain sobriety about him. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 10th doctor.
The transition to Smith was painful. (Lots of painful moments with Tennant, really. Which is part of the reason I love him.) It took me about two series/seasons to finally warm up to Smith. By the time Capaldi came on the seen, I of course adored 11. But no other doctor will ever measure up to my perfect ten.
(And now my husband is waiting impatiently for me to put my laptop away and head out to the car. I can't believe you posted this on the day I was going to quietly back away from the forum for a little while.)
@christinewas His entire connection to the Doctor Who world makes me love Tennant. I'll miss you if you successfully step back from meh, but it's honestly something I'm going to be trying to do. Too many things I need to focus on for the distractions! Hopefully you're feeling ok though.
@christinewas I honestly think part of what held Tennant back was Rose. She was a bit too ditsy... I mean, even the Master made fun of her... She got all that power, did some crazy shit... and yes it was going to kill her, but she didn't finish the job! Reminds me of someone else...
@Thumperchick Nah... it just fit... :) Rose didn't really do anything... She saved the doctor a few times, but most of them were convenient byproducts.
@sohmageek I absolutely disagree. Rose challenged the Doctor - by doing things her own way. The Doctor isn't always right, and she brought that to light a lot. She was also pretty fearless - not in the same way the other companions are/were. She went through hell and back, without hesitation, because she cared and because she was fearless. Those qualities are far from flat. Though my absolute favorite companion is Donna. She also got the saddest story line.
@Thumperchick Oh I loved Donna, and Martha. I have to say Captain Jack was my favorite, ok it's a toss up, Captain Jack and Sarah Jane Smith. Mickey was the big star in my mind for the Rose chronicles... Sure he was the tin dog... but he made something with his life. That and he ended up with Martha... I mean come on... it's Martha... Yes he wanted Rose, but I don't think he "settled" I remember that there was a rumor that Rose/2nd Doctor-donna (mortal doctor part) was going to get their own show... but Then it fell flat.... Here's a real mind blower...
@sohmageek I will also add, I couldn't stand Donna. Loved her dad like mad, though. I'll take the story of Amy and Rory any day, theirs was a great story. And Captain Jack, oh that devilish and wild and suffering man is beyond dear to me.
@jaremelz I'm still hoping that there will be a sequel torchwood... BBC said they can't finance alone, they would need a partner like starz did on the last one.
@jaremelz I loved Torchwood too... In a way better than Doctor who... Although same plot points. I preferred it as a monster a day rather than this multi episode single story... Although it was interesting to see John de Lancie on Torchwood.
I haven't seen any of the modern Who (sorry… sorry.), so my vote is Pertwee, followed very closely by Baker. I'd be hard-pressed to say that Pertwee was better than Baker, but I think I enjoy his character a bit more. The gadgets, the vehicles, he's like the James Bond of Doctor Who.
@brhfl I LOVED Baker. I started with the modern, then went back and watched what I could on netflix... I liked to see Sara Jane. I feel bad that Liz passed away... She had an awesome kids show. Even had the doctor on a few times.
Eccleston is my favorite. He's the Doctor that made me love DW. He was angry and fun and crazy and heartbreaking. Tennant was amazing and is a VERY close second. Capaldi is... not working for me. I was excited to see him take on the role - and he's been interesting. Unfortunately, he's missing the lighthearted fun for me and Clara has gotten downright boring. She started so strong and just ended up blah. I'll definitely keep watching to see what happens, but with a little less anticipation than with 9, 10, & 11.
@Thumperchick He reminds me of 1... Which if my suspicious nature is correct... What gave 13 his live, was a reset of the Doctor's regenerations, therefore the Doctor that Capaldi is trying to be most like is the 1st doctor. Who wasn't really like 9,10,11.... I wish we saw more of the war doctor.
OH heads up I don't have access to doctor who until it makes it to Hulu and that will be at least a year. and I HATE spoilers. so please take a word from River Song and Remember
David Tennant will always be my favorite but I've loved all of them in some way. I want to be in love with Capaldi's Doctor but so far I'm just in like. Did you know that in the episode The Doctor's Daughter, Georgia Moffet played the daughter. She is the daughter of Peter Davison, who also played Who..can't remember which Doctor, 6 or around there. Much later after filming the episode, Georgia and David Tennant dated and then got married. They had a little girl. So the Doctor married the daughter of the Doctor and then had the Doctor's daughter...and granddaughter.. Whew..that got all timey whimey.
@Kidsandliz Still on PBS here. The next time they do the pledge drive you should demand the return of Dr. Who... or else... no pledge for them... and no tote for you!
Eccleston. More mature, everything was right about the part for him, but I warmed up to the others. Sometimes contention makes for a better product. The rift between Paul and John (Beatles) comes to mind, but their collaborations were spot on. Being in the US, the one thing I adore UK actors for is their depth. Maybe because of a Shakesperian bkgd? They are fabulous and the characters' personalities aren't exaggerated nor are they all the same looking. This is a wonderful show, wonderful actors, a hopefully never ending adventure. It's timeless.
Apparently.. my 1 yr old son, LOVES Doctor who... I put it on to do a marathon before I Tried to find the new episodes (I no longer get BBC America) He is GLUED to the TV set... usually only Curious George does this for him... I'll probably skip the scary ones... :)
@stardate820926 and of course now looking at that pic, i realize that that uniform wasn't used until after voyager was lost in the Delta Quadrant.(around First Contact-ish...) Voyager's Uniforms would of course have the Grey, and the Color reversed.
OK... I will say there may be SPOILERS so I will be brief....
Anyone else seeing a lot of relation with Doctor who and recent technology? Also, a lot of similarities to Jack Harkness with this season? *SPOILERS AHEAD* FAIR WARNING Is it just me or is Jack Harkness the Apple of Doctor who universe? he gets knocked down and comes back... plus he has a watch... well more than a watch... Equally The Doctor is Google... Glasses... And wibbly wobbly... Know it all. :) What does that Make Clara? Some kind of Hybrid OK, google/Cortana/Siri hybrid...
I keep hearing about this show but I've never tried to watch it because the premise doesn't appeal to me. If you love this show, can you list a few other shows you also love? If I love some of those other one's too I'll give this one a shot.
I'm watching the marathon right freaking now! Eccleston will always be my favorite. He was an angry, rough and tumble Doctor who could also be funny. I was heartbroken that he only lasted the season.
Mods @Mehcus, @moose, @JonT can we get the Tardis pic for the Topic bubble.
@jaremelz yeah but Eccleston been a jerk about it
@Foxborn Actually, it came to light that he and the producers did not get along, but that it was not as one-sided as it first appeared. thank you mods :)
@jaremelz I loved him. He was my introduction to Who and the one who made me fall in love with the show. He was everything you said and more.
@mehbee He was mine as well. Glad to see he's on someone else's top of the list!
Can't wait!!!
@stardate820926 c'mon..favorite Dr. and why!?
@mfladd sorry, I was on my way into a movie and didn't read the whole post.

Who? I don't like to go the doctor and don't understand why you'd care who he is?
TEN! David Tennant. 100%.
He had so much more emotional depth and complexity. He could be light, funny and playful, but he wasn't 98% goofy like Smith. @sohmageek shoehorning in current politics? Lame. BAD WOLFGOAT

@jaremelz I'm still hoping that there will be a sequel torchwood... BBC said they can't finance alone, they would need a partner like starz did on the last one.
@jaremelz My favorite John Barrowman video as himself... :) Lets just say I wouldn't watch this at work... or while consuming any liquids...
FYI, John is a little drunk.
@sohmageek Hey, that works because so am I right now. I'll go dig out my favorite moment of Barrowman's.
@sohmageek I miss Torchwood so hard. I cried like a baby when Ianto died.
@sohmageek Okey dokely I can't find it. But this is pretty fucking fantastic.
@jaremelz I loved Torchwood too... In a way better than Doctor who... Although same plot points. I preferred it as a monster a day rather than this multi episode single story... Although it was interesting to see John de Lancie on Torchwood.
@jaremelz Q!
@jaremelz OMG the audio... :( I skipped around a bit... as its too hard to hear the audio... I didn't see him grabbing anyone...
@sohmageek i know, it's tragic. I'm mostly in love with the dancing about. I can't find a better recording.
@jaremelz And discord from My Little Pony! :)
@sohmageek Haha. First time I heard his voice on that, I died.
@sohmageek It was Captain Jack, DREAMY! did they really refresh it though? I never bothered to check LOL
@Foxborn Discord, is de Lancie
@sohmageek I know him better as Q and the guy who did the compaq computer intro
and sorry I meant that Jack was part of the reason I loved torchwood
@christinewas Why, why did you have to play that clip??Wahhh, breaks my heart every time!
@Foxborn What ever you do don't click here.
@jaremelz If you can enjoy the Theater of the Mind, you might want to check this out:
http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-07-21/this-is-how-the-torchwood-radio-plays-are-going-to-work
@LaVikinga Holy smokes, thanks! I hope they do get most of the crew for it. Oh Ianto. They just HAD to put that clip in there
@christinewas We didn't want him to go either.
Tom Baker of all of them. If it weren't for him I'm not sure we'd have doctor who still today.
@Foxborn HERE HERE!! The fourth doctor fits in with the 10th & 11th! :)
@Foxborn Tom Baker, definitely. Because you always, always love your first Doctor.
First picture of the new TARDIS and the new companions for this series... (MAJOR SPOILERS!)

@Foxborn check your local PBS... they are only a few months behind I think.
@Foxborn See It Here
@thismyusername can't even get broadcast here, no reception in high but low spot
@nadroj whoooooooo is this... tell me who? who? who?
@thismyusername NOOO that's Tommy right? the pinball wizard? :)
@kc5rbq who who, who who? :)
@thismyusername you won't get fooled again
Tom Baker
I was ready for it. Then I watched it. So meh.

@mehbee I really wish they would go back to that story line- there's a lot you could do there.
@mehbee time paradox, or just a pair of time doctors?
@dashcloud Me too! Since she survived I always thought we would see her again. Maybe she'll be the first female Doctor?
Not on over the air TV. Used to be on PBS. Sigh.
@Kidsandliz Still on PBS here. The next time they do the pledge drive you should demand the return of Dr. Who... or else... no pledge for them... and no tote for you!

@sohmageek So we're 10 episodes in and he's loving it... :) He really is a tiny geek.
@sohmageek He really is a COOL kid.
@mehbee We made it to Eccleston-Tenant regeneration, and he crashed!
Wake me when it's free on Amazon Prime.
this picture should answer who my fav doctor is...
then, there's always this one i found online, with the 10th Doctor, as the Doctor (USS Voyager's Emergency Medical Hologram)
@earlyre that pic of 10 as the EMH is awesome!
@stardate820926 and of course now looking at that pic, i realize that that uniform wasn't used until after voyager was lost in the Delta Quadrant.(around First Contact-ish...) Voyager's Uniforms would of course have the Grey, and the Color reversed.
@earlyre did you see this in last night's episode? I'm not sure it's a refrrence to Trek but it was the first thing I thought of :)
From CNET, here's the viewing guide to watching the series and spin-offs in order.
Not sure if this has already been posted (sorry if it has), but for the season premiere only, they posted the full episode to youtube
OK... I will say there may be SPOILERS so I will be brief....
