Wow I'm a bit surprised that mens rights activists are #1 so far... I'd really have to think that the most vicous trolling I've seen is always on YouTube, reddit is almost tame in comparison... Though I do enjoy my share of popcorn
@cocoaguy I'm surprised too. Didn't even know these people were known outside of /r/mensrights. There really is a lot of sexism against men in the world, and as far as I've seen, everyone involved on that subreddit fights for equality, not superiority.
@cocoaguy In my limited experience, the two 'groups' (mras and sjws) hate each other. I wonder if there had been a "feminists on tumblr" option if that would be the most voted.
Not surprised at reddit mras though. Probably deserved.
@saodell No. I'm certainly not implying women have it better, because they certainly don't. But we should ignore the fact that when parents get divorced, the mother automatically gets custody for no other reason than she's a woman. Or the fact that two drunk people can have sex, but the man can be accused of rape, even though both people were intoxicated. These are real issues that are, frankly, insane. But people like you laugh it off because hey, men already have it good enough.
I'm not an active men's rights activist or anything... but to ignore the unfair legal system in women's favor seems like an ignorant thing to do. If anything, I've only seen this group of people insist on equality, not superiority.
@TBoneZeOriginal Inequities born of an oppressed peoples seeking balance are, let's say, a necessary evil. When the system is already so stacked against a group, and that group is able to reclaim some sense of power… I can see how that could hurt a member of the group in power on a personal level. But as to the larger scope, that group's privilege is such that they've been (likely unintentionally, and quite possibly unknowingly) reaping the benefits afforded their very being for their entire lives. Is this cat-and-mouse game ideal? Of course not! But rather than actively fighting it, we should fight against the existing, greater issues that make these matters even remotely necessary. And, most MRAs (and straight-pride-ralliers, anti-affirmative-actioners, &c.) don't seem to get this. They whine about their own inequities without realizing these exist because a group other than their own has it far, far shittier.
What utter tripe. There are meaningful women's issues, but they are mostly in the political spectrum such as healthcare. Please, do define the much much shittier life they lead - real examples that haven't been disproven such as the imaginary wage gap.
This whole eye for an eye crap that third wave justifies will just make everyone blind and divide humanity from making actual strides towards equality.
It's not a necessary evil, and writing it off as such means you not only tolerate but are compliant in gender discrimination. This crap will create actual sexists as it's seen as a disingenuous attempt to gain preferential treatment with the guise of equality.
@zinjashike I knew at some point someone would come out and call the wage gap "imaginary" - throwing aside the very real challenges that women face. Whatever makes you feel better. We could trade links and sources - but let's be real, you've seen the facts and choose to believe otherwise because it's convenient for you to play the victim of the victims.
There's real challenges, but exaggerating them with fake claims from bad data makes the valid arguments look hollow. I highlighted one, healthcare rights. Equally the discarding of factual discrimination when purported against men is ignored - it once again shows you're not actually interested in equality in the least.
I guess it's easier to play the victim than actually be a better person by taking some personal accountability.
Is men's rights a big thing on Reddit in particular? I more or less avoid the place as it seems in general to be filled with the dumber end of society and I find the site itself pretty tedious to use anyway.
@nogoodwithnames In a nutshell, yes. Reddit has its good bits, but its (rather) liberal free-speech policy has led to a lot of… lets just say fucked up community developments.
@nogoodwithnames Pretty much any forum discussing women's rights, equality, sexism, feminism, etc. Reddit just blends them all together into a creamy smooth paste of MRA privilege.
The next time you hear a mom or dad tell a kid, 'two wrongs don't make a right,' reference this poll question and say that might be so but two wrongs separately are better than two wrongs together. For instance - 'Rich kids' and 'Snapchat' are much worse separately than 'Rich kids on Snapchat.' 'Hipsters' and 'Instagram,' again, horrible concepts independently but a bit more tolerable when combined.
Meh, I just may have stumbled upon a simple explanation for kids on why it's best for mommy and daddy to divorce than stay together.
@ceagee Let's talk about Yahoo for a second. Actually, let's talk about Yahoo Answers for a second. Actually, let's talk about this for a second:
I stumbled across this bonkers series of the same question being repeatedly repeated while googling a currency conversion. Is this like… an internet thing I don't know about? Or did I just stumble across one of the more bonkers things on a website full of bonkers things?
@ceagee I've given so little thought to Yahoo in I don't know how long that the concept of "comments on Yahoo" is completely foreign to me. What is there on Yahoo to comment on? Weather? Stock prices? Manually-built web indexes? Are rednecks denying weather predictions of hot days because they're just part of the liberal global warming plot to take away their God-given right to drive a Hummer?
@jaremelz and it's often like a car wreck. You don't want to see it, but it's hard to look away. I am amazed by the nastiness out there. Maybe it is other places too, but that seems to be pretty darned bad. Oh they still have news of all sorts. I have an old email that is in use and so I get exposed.
@ceagee I have a driving obsession to know what's going on everywhere that got to the point I needed to step waaay back. I don't necessarily keep blinders on, more like I try to let all the bullshit just pass my by.
Eta: Reading what I type is making it clear that I've had enough to drink and need to go to bed!
I just refrain from shitty comments about people. I just don't care about posting in a stupid argumentative controversial thread. Apathy keeps your BP down. So does reading a good book or watching a great movie. And getting outside and just doing shit. No one gives a flying eff what I think anyway. And, finally, I'm most tired of every single issue group that thinks it is special. You're not.

@TBoneZeOriginal Yeah that's really more r/theredpill those people are a bit out there... I'm just a fan of popcorn

@TBoneZeOriginal You're being ironic, yeah? I can never tell
@cocoaguy YT trolling is more annoying (sometimes even entertaining), but Reddit MRA's are more objectively terrible.
@TBoneZeOriginal LOL OKAY SURE THING

@brhfl You've said this far better than I could ever hope to.

Men's Rights advocates anywhere, really. But "on Reddit" was closest.

IMO the worst is rednecks who comment on Yahoo. Such vitriol towards all.

@brhfl The internet is both glorious and deeply disturbing. Sometimes all at once.
@jaremelz it's just a mirror of humanity. :)
@thismyusername That's why you just gotta enjoy the parts of it that you like and leave the rest in your review mirror.
@ceagee Maybe use that old account to ask some ladies if they'd sit on a real human skull for 300 dollars?
…or 300 pounds?!
…or not…
@brhfl It's the internet , someone's bound to um, jump on it.
@ceagee I have a driving obsession to know what's going on everywhere that got to the point I needed to step waaay back. I don't necessarily keep blinders on, more like I try to let all the bullshit just pass my by.

@brhfl ah i've heard this question before (at ~14:30). Yahoo is a website full of bonkers things.
@hoborg Somehow, hearing people discuss it just makes it weirder…
The Absolute Worst is when any of this garbage is copied and then 'reported' on by a professional news organization.
Chose the one genre I can't ruthlessly make fun of
I just refrain from shitty comments about people. I just don't care about posting in a stupid argumentative controversial thread. Apathy keeps your BP down. @irishbyblood Amen.
Where was "All the Above"?
Not one to hide my head in the sand to Evil in the World but no need to go online and point out each individual.
"Just Do Shit" should be everyones motto!
TIL satire is taken seriously.
@DrunkCat
Poe's Law
this phenomenon has been going on for quite a long time (see Machiaveli's The Prince).
Also notable: A video about the laws of the internet (not the rules of the internet, the laws of the internet).
Most of the worst of the above fall into the same category.
