@Fuzzalini
Carmine Coppola also did some of the scoring for the first two Godfather films, The Black Stallion film, and a 3-1/2 hour score for Francis Ford Coppola’s 1981 reconstruction of Abel Gance’s 1927 epic Napoléon (an amazing film).
Of the choices given (actually listened to all of them), I liked best the clips from Frantic and from Assault on Precinct 13.
Of course, if you go from “overlooked films” as a category, and start including such films some of the major releases and classics mentioned by others in this thread there is so much incredible stuff.
Just as a reminder for folks who want something they possibly haven’t heard in a while, I will mention:
Philip Glass’s score for Koyaanisqatsi
Ennio Morricone’s score for Days of Heaven, with astounding guitar work by Leo Kottke
Here is some of the Kottke
Here is a playlist of the entire soundtrack.
Terrence Malick supposedly originally wanted Kottke to score the entire film, but Kottke supposedly didn’t want a project quite that big, at that time. So he worked with Morricone.
You guys didn’t include Danny Elfman’s entire soundtrack to The Circle. (that is a decidedly meh movie, but the soundtrack is GREAT! Totally unlike any of his other stuff. I’m a total fan girl and would have his babies.
Too many not counted from what I’ve heard and seen my SO purchase, play and whistle/hum/sing to when in the “sacred den” and while mowing. But if I were my SO I would agree with @moondrake. The Internet was scoured (before iTunes and you tube was a thing) for a guitar piece called “The Horse” and if I have to watch the air guitar played again to the beginning of Young Guns I’ll … well … no - no words - I just can’t. That and something in Braveheart and a couple of others. And if Big, Bad and the Ugly is the one with the whistles and the woo…ee…woo sound (yes, that was pathetic and no I didn’t listen - for some reason my iPad doesn’t like the playback button on the you tubes) then that’s in there too.

Has to be Somewhere in Time. Great Movie.
Claudia’s Theme from Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven.
@LaVikinga
That’s gorgeous. Did Eastwood himself score this film?
@f00l I doubt it.
The entire score of Apocalypse Now, written by Francis Ford Coppola and his father. With some Wagner thrown in.

@f00l +1 for Days of Heaven, one of the best films ever. Never gave the soundtrack much thought, to be honest, so I’ll have to give it a listen.
I’m very taken with the theme from the new King Arthur movie. Set aside any thoughts you may have about the movie and listen to the song.

My lasting favorite movie score, and one of my all time favorite movies is The Last of the Mohicans. The soundtrack has some fantastic pieces on it.

I have no winner.
If pressed to chose, I would stay
away from New York.
Assault on Precinct 13 is rad. Thanks for the throwback.
