One likes to sleep in my bed or on the floor by my bed the other one prefers to sleep outside unless it’s raining or cold. But she has a door she can come and go as she pleases, and if she gets scared, she might jump in my bed for cuddles and reassurance.
Mine has several favorite spots, including his giant cat tree, but he always sleeps on the bed if I’m there. Plus anytime a new space gets cleared off, one that was previously unavailable, that’s his new favorite daytime spot.
@Kyeh I was thinking along the lines of Stargate SG1, You remember that they had an alien called Thor! Then sometime I think I may should have switch to Marvel & called him Loki! He is a indoor cat! Plus quite spoiled!
He loves chasing the Red Dot & the yellow rope/string I got at Dollar Tree, Plus of course the tube from the toilet paper!
I must say he wants to lay near me when I am home
@Kyeh Oh Yea, Plus he is very Lovable, There is NO where that is off limits to being rubbed or scratched! Of course his head is #1, His belly is #2 his back/ tail is #3.
He Loves to be cuddled, he will jump up in to my lap & want me to hold him close!
My bed. their bed, on the sofa, on the recliner, in the middle of the floor, in their crate, on top of their crate, ON ME!
And I wouldn’t have it any other way!
We lost our most recent Golden a few months back, but five generations of them have slept inside the parents’ bathroom, against the wall, behind the door. So much so that there’s a dog-sized spot on the wall where the wallpaper pattern is almost completely rubbed away.
@Kyeh They really prefer the cold tile floor! Occasionally they’d nap on the beds but always slept on the floor. Also love to lay on the tile in the foyer.
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf There’s something about Labs & Goldens, they tend to love hard surfaces. Not just for the coolness, either, they’ll lie on a hearth in front of a fireplace or woodstove, too. They do it so often, they’re known for getting calluses on their elbows. Strange.
My old girl has about a half-dozen spots that she rotates during the day, but when it’s time for bed, she almost always goes to her crate to lie on the fleecy pad these days, since she got too crotchety to want to sleep with me anymore. Although, it’s funny that this was the poll question tonight, because when i woke up, she didn’t come to greet me like she usually does & she wasn’t in any of her spots, so i started to get worried, until i went to the bathroom outside the laundry area & saw her lying in a basket of clothes. That was a first! I’ve always said she was cat-like, but that clinches it… That’s my little weirdo.
@ircon96 Awww - even comfier than a fleece pad, huh? Do dogs like fuzzy blankets? All my cats have been crazy for them, the kind with the deep furry nap that feels like their own fur.
@Kyeh She LOVES those kind of blankets, so i got her a bunch. She likes to dig around in them & mess them up, so she has them all over the place. The only thing that would make her happier is having her own little kitty sibling with real fur, but i have my hands full enough with her these days!
@Kyeh She loves cats, a little too much, so most of them don’t love her back cuz she freaks them out. Other dogs area different story, though, she turns into Cujo with most of them. Like i said, my little weirdo.
@ircon96@Kyeh My former dog liked our cats (and vice-versa) but she (quite aggressively) did not get along with other dogs. It took her a long time to grudgingly accept our other dog when he came to live with us.
Pretty much wherever the mood strikes them though they do tend to have a few (preferred) spots that they settle down to at night. Nap time is a totally different game. And of course, if there’s boxes around, Smokey will nest in one of those in a heartbeat
@Kyeh
We invested in a ‘chipped’ cat door a while back. They have the run of the kitchen, living room, dining room, and a loft, plus a guest bathroom that their (now totally unused) cat litter is in. Bedrooms are strictly off limits.
They are (surprisingly) really good about staying off the dining table and the kitchen counters.
We took all the upholstered stuff like throw pillows, rugs etc out of those room so they don’t leave TOO much fur around (leather couch/loveseat stays pretty much fur-less). The meh-acquired-knock-off-“roomba” keeps things under control.
We have a separate den with my wife’s office and a cloth covered dual recliner where the projector is that is closed off by a pocket door so they can’t get in there.
So far that seems to work for SWMBO’s allergies.
@Kidsandliz Awww, they look so angelic! That’s how they sucker us in, huh? Your goat sentry looks just like my childhood cat that loved to fetch Silly Putty balls. He was adorkable.
My dog likes to sleep in a spot where he can see me. But at night, I insist that he sleeps in his bedroom (formerly my daughter’s room) with the door closed. If allowed to sleep in our bedroom, he starts pestering me at daylight (plus he farts a lot ).
The two cats sleep wherever, but our bedroom door must remain closed at night or they will come in and walk on us, kneading and purring, in the early morning. (Not fun with an 18 lb cat.)
Dog starts in the living room so she can watch the front door. Then she comes upstairs in our bedroom and sleeps on the bed. Then she goes on the floor at the foot of the bed. Then when it is time for her morning walk she comes back on the bed to wake us up.
@CharlieDoggo@Kidsandliz I do, but he finds his way upstairs throughout the day while Im working too. He only comes down if he hears a big vehicle going down the street or if he wants something.
@CharlieDoggo@Kidsandliz well he is the type that likes to sit on top of the furniture and does not want to be seen. He chills on the opposite side of the house (or floor) you are on. If Im in the living room, he is in the dining room, my office or upstairs. I walk in one of those rooms and he goes to the living room or kitchen. Crazy boi
Yes
Wherever he wants.
@yakkoTDI yep, I have a fixed rescue male 2 + year old cat. So yes anywhere he wants, including on me!
My dog has 7 spots she frequently rotates between.
At Rainbow Bridge
@shahnm Before that, what was the preferred location?
@Salanth Wherever gravity happened to be.
@shahnm
@shahnm
@shahnm
As a child I never understood why this was a sad thing. I am old enough to have used the old entrance to Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.
https://tampapix.com/fairyland.htm
@shahnm @yakkoTDI That article is really cool!
@Kyeh @shahnm They have multiple articles about Lowry Park and some of the other features that used to exist like Fantasia Golf and Safety Village.

Outside where they belong with all the wild animals.
Our cats sleep wherever they happen to be at the time. Some have frequent roosts, some do not.
@werehatrack yep, some places you don’t want them to be!
In their bed, which is on my bed at the foot. A little strange, as the last dog wanted under the covers, but still at the foot.
Mine has several favorite spots, including his giant cat tree, but he always sleeps on the bed if I’m there. Plus anytime a new space gets cleared off, one that was previously unavailable, that’s his new favorite daytime spot.
In the cat tree
@Kyeh ONG That’s so.very true, many times somewhere very close to me in the house.
@mycya4me What kind of pet do you have?
@Kyeh Cutie patootie!
@ircon96
@Kyeh
A male Rescue, around 2 years, Had all his shots, he has been Fixed & litter box trained. & of course litter box trained
@mycya4me Oh, he’s a beautiful kitty! What’s his name?
@Kyeh @mycya4me I just come to this site for cuteness overload. I needed it today, and it delivered.
@mycya4me So he doesn’t really have a name yet?
@Kyeh Yes his Name is Thor after Stargate SG1, You remember that they had an alien called Thor!
@mycya4me Well, he’s a lot cuter than that alien, but okay, Thor it is.

@PooltoyWolf yep, their scent is very strong.
@PooltoyWolf Always that spot? Not on one of the beds?
@Kyeh They really prefer the cold tile floor! Occasionally they’d nap on the beds but always slept on the floor. Also love to lay on the tile in the foyer.
@PooltoyWolf Wow - I guess because it’s hot in Florida? It’s amusing when animals spread-eagle on tile or stone floors.
@Kyeh Aidan, our last one, was well known for ‘splooting’.
@PooltoyWolf Oh, that’s cute!
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf There’s something about Labs & Goldens, they tend to love hard surfaces. Not just for the coolness, either, they’ll lie on a hearth in front of a fireplace or woodstove, too. They do it so often, they’re known for getting calluses on their elbows. Strange.
@ircon96 @Kyeh Yep, some of ours had 'em!
My old girl has about a half-dozen spots that she rotates during the day, but when it’s time for bed, she almost always goes to her crate to lie on the fleecy pad these days, since she got too crotchety to want to sleep with me anymore. @ircon96 She likes cats? My sister said one of her dogs does too. The other one might but he’s kind of new so I haven’t heard yet.
@Kyeh She loves cats, a little too much, so most of them don’t love her back cuz she freaks them out. Other dogs area different story, though, she turns into Cujo with most of them. Like i said, my little weirdo.
@ircon96 @Kyeh My former dog liked our cats (and vice-versa) but she (quite aggressively) did not get along with other dogs. It took her a long time to grudgingly accept our other dog when he came to live with us.
@Kyeh @macromeh Awww, so cute… Girls rule!
Heck if I know. As long as it’s somewhere on the other side of the closed bedroom door, I don’t ask questions.
Pretty much wherever the mood strikes them though they do tend to have a few (preferred) spots that they settle down to at night. Nap time is a totally different game. And of course, if there’s boxes around, Smokey will nest in one of those in a heartbeat
@chienfou So … they sleep in the house now?
@Kyeh

So far that seems to work for SWMBO’s allergies.
Last time we had pets, their philosophy was very much, “if it fits, I sits.”
This, apparently, is not my chair
Or my table top (needed to protect it by the white fuzzy pillow cover)
Of course this bed belongs to them
I guess I am supposed to wash cats when I wash my dirty clothes?
Of course this is NOT my apartment according to the cats. Goat cat is is on sentry duty and it requires a password to enter my bedroom.
@Kidsandliz Awww, they look so angelic! That’s how they sucker us in, huh? Your goat sentry looks just like my childhood cat that loved to fetch Silly Putty balls. He was adorkable.
@Kidsandliz
@Kidsandliz They are doing a good Job, have they got you trained yet?
@mycya4me Yes and it is ALL YOUR FAULT!!! (since you are goat)
My dog likes to sleep in a spot where he can see me. But at night, I insist that he sleeps in his bedroom (formerly my daughter’s room) with the door closed. If allowed to sleep in our bedroom, he starts pestering me at daylight (plus he farts a lot ).

@macromeh
Sure he does.
Our parakeets, when we had them (two, one at a time) slept in their cage.
@Kyeh Typical!
Dog starts in the living room so she can watch the front door. Then she comes upstairs in our bedroom and sleeps on the bed. Then she goes on the floor at the foot of the bed. Then when it is time for her morning walk she comes back on the bed to wake us up.
I sleep where ever I want! But I usually prefer upstairs in bed!
@CharlieDoggo Is that what your mom prefers too?
@CharlieDoggo @Kidsandliz I do, but he finds his way upstairs throughout the day while Im working too. He only comes down if he hears a big vehicle going down the street or if he wants something.
Sometimes I think he is half cat
@CharlieDoggo @tinamarie1974 If he was half cat he’d try to be in your lap, on your desk, or on your keyboard while you were working.
@CharlieDoggo @Kidsandliz well he is the type that likes to sit on top of the furniture and does not want to be seen. He chills on the opposite side of the house (or floor) you are on. If Im in the living room, he is in the dining room, my office or upstairs. I walk in one of those rooms and he goes to the living room or kitchen. Crazy boi
On top of the bodies in the basement.
