I thought by cutoff they would mean “how much” not “when”. Why would a clock be involved? Is this like wearing white after labor day, or eating ice cream during the day?
@tightwad what is “ice cream during the day” restriction? I have never heard that! How do you wait til dark to get a softserve cone because at 2 pm at the beach you are really hot?
/giphy beach ice cream
As long as we are talking normal amounts of caffeine then I have no cut off.
That one time I took 6 Vivarin I was kept awake for a while. I was really bored because nobody was around to keep me company.
Pre Covid And shift work I would have said what cutoff? I used to pour deathwish coffee into my veins (about 650mg caffeine per cup). After having Covid and not being able to drink coffee again, only about 2-3 mountain dews…
@seraphimcaduto How did Covid affect you so that you can’t drink coffee anymore? I hadn’t heard about that before. There are a lot of weird after-effects, I keep learning.
@seraphimcaduto I had covid last November and I drink coffee the same as before covid. about a pot a day. on road trips it is a constant cuppa the entire way there and back.
@Kyeh the taste changed for me, it used to taste delicious and would calm my stomach, now it’s all of a sudden bitter and my stomach rebels against it. Funny thing is that it’s ONLY coffee, almost like I lost my tolerance for caffeine completely.
ATM, I’m up to a pot (1.5 liters) of strong coffee a day and caffeine is not having much effect on me.
This weekend, I’m hoping to cut coffee almost completely so as to reset my brain, etc. and see if I can get back down to my normal 750ml (1/2 pot) a day.
@baqui63@Cerridwyn depends. My dad used to get horrible caffeine headaches when he started/stopped drinking coffee at work. I drink lots off and on including month sof constant coffee on third shift and been fine every time.
I metabolize coffee really quickly. Actually, I find coffee soothing before bed. Many nights I’ll take a cup of coffee to bed with me… The warmth helps me sleep.
I used to drink coffee until bedtime but then I started waking up during the night so stopped about 7PM, then 5PM, then 3PM. Now, I have 1 cup at 7AM and am done for the day. You know, I’m happier for not having to grab a coffee all day long.
I can drink coffee in the evenings without it affecting my sleep. On Saturday nights, I usually have a latte around midnight and go to bed at 1:30 or 2:00.
I don’t drink coffee, so I don’t know if I have a real answer. I can fall to sleep immediately after having an occasional diet coke, but that’s what, a fourth of the caffeine of a typical coffee?
(i guess occasionally i do have iced or hot tea that isn’t herbal, but…there’s really no noticeable caffeinated effects so it doesn’t matter the time for me.)
/giphy the limit does not exist
gonna have some now and go to bed, so I guess my answer is… N/A
the moment I fall asleep
NEVERRRR!!!
I get the feeling that those of us answering the poll now will have a much different opinion from the morning crew.

I have been on second shift, so 7 PM. Going back to day shift, so it’s coffee till noon and beer till midnight.
I stop drinking coffee as soon as I start drinking beers/liquor, but back at the caffeine after the alcohol.
@edguyver14 what, no crossover? Left over coffee in your whiskey?
@edguyver14 @unksol Or Red Bull in your flavored vodka?
@edguyver14 @mike808 @unksol
pardon me, but GROSSS!
I did used to know someone who made their coffee with Aqua Java (anyone else remember that?)
Coffee happens, when coffee happens.
or the afternoon, or the evening or night.
the limit is when i’m shaking so bad i have to go hydrate - only happened once when i forgot to drink water on a coffee crawl.
Find one, see if you can reach your limit, but bring a designated driver
I’ve usually had enough coffee by 9am.
I start drinking coffee around 6am…
Cut…off?
About 10pm. I don’t want to be up all night…
I would say your choices are skewed toward 1st shift workers. Why does everyone forget about 2nd and 3rd shift?
Caffeine doesn’t seem to affect me. I can drink it at any time and never have trouble sleeping
@chellemonkey right there with ya! Drink my last cup, brush my teeth and go to bed!

@seraphimcaduto Wow, that’s a shame. What about tea or colas, or did you not like them to begin with?
@Kyeh @seraphimcaduto An acquaintance had Covid (and recovered) and she said she quit drinking coffee because it just tasted like salt water to her.
@macromeh @seraphimcaduto
So strange!
I picked 4PM, but it really depends…

@baqui63
invest in Tylenol
your head will want to explode

@Cerridwyn I rarely get caffeine headaches. When I do, a small bit of anything with caffeine (1/2 cup of tea, for example) fixes it.
Also, tylenol is bad for ones liver… I much prefer advil/motrin. (stomach vs liver…)
I can drink it 24 7 365 & still go right to sleep.
@Redbird1325
My what now?
What is this craziness you speak of?
I typically don’t have any on a given day. I only consume caffeine when I’ve gotta stay up late.
I’m with @Redbird1325 anytime, day or night, average 2 pots a day!
It’s not time, but volume for me. One thermos and done.
I metabolize coffee really quickly. Actually, I find coffee soothing before bed. Many nights I’ll take a cup of coffee to bed with me… The warmth helps me sleep.

There’s no option for those who don’t consume caffeine.
if I wouldn’t spill it, I could drink hot coffee while I’m falling asleep at night.
I can drink coffee in the evenings without it affecting my sleep. On Saturday nights, I usually have a latte around midnight and go to bed at 1:30 or 2:00.

I work the night shift so there’s no such thing as a cutoff
i don’t drink caffeine

I’m supposed to stop?
well I had marked 3pm but now I think I’ll get an iced coffee on the way home from work just to spite you.
Bold of you to assume I have a cutoff point. My circulatory system is more caffeine than blood.
I no longer drink caffeine.
I miss sweet tea!
And Ruby Red Squirt.
