For the quickly bored: it starts as just a normal mascot playing the drums, but it really picks up about one minute in.…
I saw that video (or similar one) a few years ago. I don’t remember where (or who shared it), but I was impressed. This time around I learned more…
For the obsessively curious, that’s Nyango Starr, I just learned that it’s the spirit of a cat that is inhabiting an apple. (“It’s Japan!” should explain everything.) And here’s another 8 minutes giving more background:
I also watched a couple videos of Nyango playing music with other mascots. They’re all quite impressive. Even if I was that good in real life, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be that good with a giant costume on.
@Kyeh@xobzoo do you think Japanese watch American shows and say things like “It’s an orange cat that eats lasagna, Americans are weird”. Or “it’s a game show where noone gets hurt. Americans are so weird”.
@OnionSoup@xobzoo I suppose they might. When I was a kid I told my mother (who’s Japanese) that my school friends thought eating sushi and seaweed, not yet popular in the US, sounded gross. She said Japanese people thought eating “spoiled stinky milk - i.e. cheese” was gross.
@Kyeh@xobzoo I mean, she’s not wrong when you think about it. It’s milk that we’ve let bacteria eat away at for months. And some of it does smell pretty wretched. Then you get the kinds with blue veins of mold growing in them and Italy has a cheese that is supposed to be eaten with living cheese fly maggots in it.
(I do love cheese though… Not Italian maggot cheese, but other cheeses)
@OnionSoup@xobzoo Also Asians don’t tolerate cows’ milk very well. Fermentation is a pretty big part of Japanese cuisine, though - miso, natto (), tempeh, etc.
yea, i almost went to check instagram, or discord, or facebook, about 40 seconds in, then at about the 1 minute mark things really picked up. but, tbh, can still feel like i just wasted 2 minutes of my remaining years.
I keep passing this video In suggestions…. Fine I finally freaking watched it. It was really good, but also meh. G thanks.

@xobzoo
Wow, even for Japan that’s weird! But fun …
I really like this one. I can relate to it being too cold to get out of bed.
@yakkoTDI The struggle is real.
Rage against the bathroom.

@Yoda_Daenerys Considering you were trolling around in the Meh forums I don’t think time wasting is quite the issue you make it out to be.
@yakkoTDI you’re not wrong
/youtube not wrong
/8ball “are they not not wrong?”
You may rely on it
