@katbyter after years of taking it, I learned not to long ago you are supposed to take it about an hour before going to bed and not just as you are going to bed, lol.
@cengland0 Muscle relaxers are the bomb! The only thing that ever gave me a good night’s sleep, prob a good thing for me that they’re available by Rx only.
@ircon96 I do have a prescription for Flexeril and take them to relax my neck muscle or else I will end up with a severe migraine headache. The good side effect is they make you sleepy.
@ircon96 I got lucky with the Flexeril. Before that pill, I was getting monthly injections in my neck muscles. I no longer have to go through that pain to prevent the migraines. If I feel one coming on because of stress, I can press on that muscle and if I feel it in my head, I quickly take another Flexeril. Works great so far.
@cengland0 Wow, it’s amazing that u were able to drill down on it so thoroughly! Lucky is right, some people never get to the bottom of theirs. Wishing you continued success in keeping them at bay!
@PooltoyWolf I actually like NOVA too but the narrators they use for that show always talk in a monotone way that makes you very sleepy. It doesn’t help that it also comes on late.
So it used to be melatonin which worked decently but not great for me…then I realized a decent O released the perf mix of brain chemicals for me to relax me to sleep soo…Magic Wand
@ratman You can save yourself some money by taking 50 mg (2 tablets) of generic Benadryl (diphenhydramine). That’s the active ingredient of most OTC sleep meds.
When I’m actually trying to reset my sleep schedule I have temporarily (a few days) used melatonin to try and reset my sleep cycle, diphenhydramine(benadryl/almost in every otc sleeping pill) to actually get to sleep, and maybe some ibuprofen if something is hurting.
I’ve never managed to stick to the reset schedule when/if it works. Cause work/stress/habit/hours. Maybe next project.
I do think melatonin messes with you a little. Dreams get a little… More lucid/vivid/detailed at least for me.
If I can’t sleep I’ll get up and walk around the house, smoke a cigarette and it usually helps. It’s usually bc I have to much on my mind or I’m really uncomfortable.
I will play some kind of sleep meditation app on my phone. Currently using the free version of shut eye. There are multiple free meditations. They seem to put me to sleep.
I used to have a pretty bad problem with insomnia, but find it easier to fall asleep now in my thirties. But occasionally I’ll still have a little trouble, and an audiobook usually does the trick.
Stay awake.
Masturbate until I go to sleep or my hand gets a cramp.
@Evansdoor Props for being honest LOL
@Evansdoor Quit jerking us around. Tell us what you really do.
@Evansdoor you’re hand may stay that way. I heard that on a Seinfeld episode (the hand model).
Read the forum entries on a deal-a-day site
Read a book or study guide for cybersecurity certifications.
Melatonin? Doesn’t work for me, but works for some. I usually just do solitaire until I fall asleep and drop the phone on my face.
@katbyter after years of taking it, I learned not to long ago you are supposed to take it about an hour before going to bed and not just as you are going to bed, lol.
Take a muscle relaxer or some Benedryl.

@cengland0 Some people have all the luck! Except for the migraine part, that is. I’m glad you found something that helps, migraines are no joke!

Watch a NOVA on PBS. Will literally put crickets to sleep.
@Rueki Hey, I like NOVA!
@PooltoyWolf @Rueki I like (many episodes of) NOVA, too. But when I watch it in the evening, it does seem to often put me to sleep.
@Rueki star trek <fill in the blank> is also a great substitute.

@njfan Hey now! Star Trek is my favorite show. Don’t be talking smack about it. You’ll anger Spock.
you’re an all-star
Take a hot shower, pop an Ambien and wash it down with two shots of vodka, then put on CSPAN and wait.
Actually the shower part is usually enough…

Do a crossword puzzle, on paper.
If it ever happens I’ll let you know. Generally getting horizontal is enough…
@chienfou
White noise videos on YouTube. Usually rain on metal roof. Puts me right to sleep!
@Maryscarey I have a house with a metal roof in NW Oregon. Who needs YouTube?
Play solitaire on my tablet.
Play on my phone.
@LaserEyes I’m pretty sure that’s exactly why some people have a hard time falling asleep. I know it’s my problem.
Trying to watch YouTube videos on my phone or Chromebook always knocks me right out, even if it’s a video about a topic I’m really interested in.
@brennyn Bob Ross is excellent for this.
Sominex/Unisom
