More seriously, the same thing that I eat any day for lunch. Whatever’s in the fridge. And if there’s nothing appetizing, there’s the kitchen in which to create something
@Mehlachi Wait, you have to eat your own hopes and dreams? I thought I had it bad when my employer ate mine; I never imagined there’d be anywhere I’d have to do it myself.

Three of us at work used to have rice and beans together. A small rice cooker made fresh rice, and about a quarter of a can of black beans per person. Add some Cholula or other flavoring and there you have it.
Sure, it’s probably pretty boring. But it requires little effort, almost no decisions, and very little money. Only occasionally will you get into arguments with bureaucrats about whether its legal to run a rice cooker in the break room.
Then all of that ended in March 2020 when COVID policies forced us to work from home for a while.
Some years ago with one job the cafeteria was incredibly cheap. As a result I bought my main meal of the day there (I am not a fan of cooking) so that dinner was more of the “lunch” variety food. Loved that. Since that job work cafeterias were much more expensive and not worth blowing that kind of money. Didn’t realize at the time how lucky I was back then.
Well, I’m retired but I just took a break from working at weeding our Marionberry patch to have a lunch of leftover blueberry pancakes smeared with peanut butter and a glass of cold milk.
Well, at various jobs I have the option of a cheap deli that has pie (pizza, blueberry, and quiche), yogurt & soup from the nearby supermarket deli, or dumpster dive and find yesterday’s bread and salad (I know the nearby bakeries; they usually have more than they can take home, and no one likes the wilted greens).
Or for that matter breakfast. May be the sedentary life style/working from a desk at home/dinner portions.
If I’m going to have breakfast it’s something like a bowl of rolled oats with raisins, cinnamon, and some vanilla extract. I don’t often do that, but I don’t have a sweet tooth. And day “fasting” was not the intention. Just kinda happened over 20 years.
I mean a salad was a good idea for lunch but since I’m not hungry. Why bother making one? Other than to pretend to be healthy. And I can steam a bag of frozen vegetables in the microwave for dinner if I want and they’ll be fresher. So. Meh?
Food.
Cottage cheese and fruit.
Cottage cheese and fruit.
Every day I go in to the office,
I bring cottage cheese and fruit.
@togle You should change it up and bring fruit and cottage cheese,
@yakkoTDI Oooooooh, daring! Mysterious!
Many times it is a PB& j/ Banana. Some time what is cheap in the cafe if they have one!
I’m retired, so I pretended I still work, to make a choice above, as in - what I used to do.
Well, I think I know, Brain, But I thought we weren’t supposed to raid the freezer across the street at the mortuary anymore…

My own hopes and dreams
@Mehlachi Wait, you have to eat your own hopes and dreams? I thought I had it bad when my employer ate mine; I never imagined there’d be anywhere I’d have to do it myself.
@xobzoo Yeah, I know. My employer forces me to eat my own hopes and dreams.
@Mehlachi @xobzoo yes lost hopes and dreams are the only food for corporate CEOs.
@Mehlachi @pmarin @xobzoo With craploads of money for dessert.
Nothing

Whatever seems appetizing if I have time, or quick on the endless meeting days.
Mute is such a great invention. Just have to make sure no one calls my name when I have a mouth full.
@hchavers and don’t turn on the video if you work naked.
@pmarin and don’t pull a Toobin.
@hchavers @pmarin Exactly what was Toobin pulling?
Lunch?
Usually either instant ramen or SpaghettiO’s. Sometimes the Burger King or Checkers down the street from the museum I run.
@PooltoyWolf Instant SpaghettiO’s?
@yakkoTDI I guess so, considering they take less time to prepare than the instant ramen!
I’m retired, but I used to bring a sandwich of low calorie, tasteless lunch meat with taste supplied by the mustard.
Whatever I scrounge up in my kitchen. But usually I snack all day.

@Kidsandliz My couple of years with the Miami Herald were similar, the cafeteria in the building was inexpensive and very good.
Work?
Dinner… I work 2nd shift
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You may be surprised to learn this but…
Soup.
@OnionSoup That is mind-bogglingly bizarre. Now please excuse me while I repair this tongue-shaped dent poking out of my cheek.
Work? What is this ‘work’ you speak of?
Retirement is a wonderful thing. (If you don’t speak ‘Subtle’, that translates to ‘neenerneenerneener’)
Well, I’m retired but I just took a break from working at weeding our Marionberry patch to have a lunch of leftover blueberry pancakes smeared with peanut butter and a glass of cold milk.
@macromeh You smear cold milk on your pancakes?
@werehatrack Internally, yes.
I wonder what retirement looks like…

I pretty much never eat lunch.
