@colinlord If you’d tried it, I think you’d understand. I tried it out on a Groupon. It was way beyond my capacity and I dropped out after a couple of weeks. But it was far and away the most positive, upbeat workout experience I’ve ever had. I was welcomed into the group, everyone tried to help me and make me feel good about what I was doing, brushing off failures and cheering successes. It was like briefly becoming part of a very athletic, happy family. It really is a way of life, and I can see why people who are serious about it are so enthusiastic.
My favorite kinds of exercise are non exercise like martial arts, fencing, medieval larping. Activities that are naturally cross fit and keep your mind engaged. Plus, hitting people is a great stress reliever. I guess it’s fair to say my favorite forms of exercise involve hitting people. As I’ve gotten older, vigorous walking (4mph) has been my primary exercise, but right now I’m struggling with painful plantar fasciitis in one heel. That takes the fun right out of walking, just when I have two young, healthy canine walking companions. I’m participating in a study that combines free weights, cardio and floor work for older people. It’s a great workout and fun in the context of challenging myself and surprising the student instructors with my strength (I just have no endurance or flexibility). But I’m having to use the rowing machine for the cardio because the treadmill kills my foot. I’ve ordered some heel cups in the hopes of getting some relief, I’d really like to start walking again with the weather getting cooler.
Water aerobics / swimming. No sweating!
@katbyter I suspect you still sweat.
Ew, please don’t lump woo-woo yoga in with sensible Pilates.

@wmbarr I want to see him do the Truffle Shuffle ROFL
@wmbarr came here to say that. Didn’t have to.
I have never been able to make sense of an activity without instant gratification. I fail at exercise for exercise sake.
For instant gratification: Exercise Sake!
Picking strength training because that’s as close as there was to “climbing on things to do tricks and stuff.”

Thanks, giphy. Helpful as usual.
What? No horizontal option? Definitely my favorite way to exercise!

@thejackalope I agree, but a partner is necessary.
What is it about crossfit that makes everyone have to tell you about how they do crossfit?

18 holes of golf, carrying a bag of clubs 2 or 3 times a week. Tracker says 18,000+ steps each round (9 miles+)
Elliptical machine at home, skiing as much as possible in the winter.
Walking. It’s low impact. But with the hills around here, can sure get your heart rate going
@lisaviolet To be honest, I am a little put off by the poll’s suggestion that walking isn’t exercise
@DrWorm I wholly agree.

I have a little stepper under my desk that I try to use as I am on the forums here and the internet in general.
