Just wanted to mention that The Seekers “Never Find (another you”) was definitely recorded in the mid-sixties. That dress is pure Carnaby Street, and the hemline is definitely not “five years earlier”. Yes, we really did look like this in 1965. And music really was recorded on a one-track reel-to-reel, then overdubbed.
Well, did he ever return? No, he never returned and his fate is still unknown.
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston. He’s the man who never returned.
Poor Charlie! Should have jumped the turnstiles!
In related interesting news they uncovered, preserved, and restored one of the original mosaic signs for Scollay Under which would have been the station his wife handed him a sandwich at when they were redoing the Government Center station the last couple of years.
Agh, tough decision… “Green, Green” or “I’ll Never Find Another You”. Maybe I’ll toss the first in “Best I haven’t heard before” and the second in “Best I have heard before.”
The Seekers are actually a band I really enjoy from back then, along with things like The Turtles, Moody Blues, The Hollies, Johnny Rivers, and Simon & Garfunkel.
Needs more death metal
Thanks, once again, for the journey through musical history.
@KDemo I’m trying to make sense of this .gif and failing.
@JoetatoChip - Well, it appears to be an alien sitting on a stump playing a banjo, entertaining a male wearing a hat and a female with a chicken.
Another of these “educational” write-ups. Really?
@tomvarela say you love them and they will stop…
Four strong winds, but I favor the cover, as done by that Canadian crooner Neil Young.
Why do you never include “it’s all shit” as one of the options in the poll?
@Al_Coholic we can only hope they’ll include it on the next one.
Grew up listening to my Dad’s Brothers Four albums. Love the voices and harmonies of the original incarnation of the group.
Definitive Bud and Travis:
In for one just because my family really, actually did (and still does) sing folk songs around a campfire every summer. Four Strong Feels.
As a child, I owned a couple of Lonnie Donegan’s albums on vinyl. The gum song was a constant repeat when I was 7.
But you didn’t list the one I went around singing all of the time as a kid, driving people crazy:
Alice’s Restaurante
Puff the Magic Dragon
Another infotaintmentional triumph, @JasonToon. Thank you.

If I had a hammer
I’d wake up my neighbors
Pounding out a rhythm
All about you!
(Or, the superior, original video based on the remix:)
Donegan really did record that gum song in 1959, but it wasn’t released in the States until 1961 for some reason.

Never Did No Wanderin’
by The New Main Street Singers
(way better than the Folksmen’s version)
I really liked most of these. I guess I’m old.
@sammydog01 Have you ever listened to a band called She and Him?
@kazriko I almost bought their Christmas album last year- I just taught Alexa one of their albums. Thanks for the suggestion.
