I've completely forgotten the Timeline film so I guess I'll have to say that is the worst. Dishonorable mention for Sphere and its awful casting. The Jurassic Park books vary so much from the films I consider them separate entities and I enjoy both.
@FightingMongoos the casting alone can't be blamed for Sphere. That one actually surprised me that they even tried to make a movie. But yes, Timeline is the worst. At least lost world abandoned pretty much all but the name. Timeline comes so close to being right that it hurts more for it.
1971 The Andromeda Strain 1972 Dealing: Or the Berkeley-to-Boston Forty-Brick Lost-Bag Blues 1972 The Carey Treatment (A Case of Need) 1974 The Terminal Man Mike Hodges 1979 The First Great Train Robbery 1993 Jurassic Park 1993 Rising Sun 1994 Disclosure 1995 Congo 1997 The Lost World: Jurassic Park 1998 Sphere 1999 The 13th Warrior (Eaters of the Dead) 2003 Timeline 2008 The Andromeda Strain (mini-series)
@Pavlov Ooohh forgot the 13th Warrior. While the book was definitely better, that is actually a solid movie. Even with Banderas playing the lead; he did a passable job.
No comments yet about "Lost World"? The movie adaptation went something like this: "OK, We'll take the names, and it's about dinosaurs. That's all you script-writers need to know from the book. Matter of fact, I may have told you too much by revealing their names."

This would imply that I've actually read a Michael Crichton novel.
@AnnaB i've read them all, the man could write a hell of a novel, but hollywood just can't get them right. at all.
@earlyre I'll take your word for it and give one a try
@AnnaB give The Great Train Robbery a read.
@simplersimon I love The Great Train Robbery

Can't hate on MC. He's why all my clothes are black, white, or gray. (Although, I cheat, and added navy blue.)
Something wrong with the vote tallying program. Disclosure isn't lapping the field.
Hands down the worst "book to movie" ratio of all time is Congo ... good book, awwwwful movie
@djinsd There's an alternative interpretation elevating Congo to (unintentional) greatness that makes me want to rewatch it:

@djinsd correct answer
Solid pinball game though
Congo happened in a steamy jungle. Appropriate, as it's a steaming pile of...
I haven't seen all of these, but Sphere is my favorite of his books, and boy did that adaptation suck giant monkey spheres.
