@brennyn@mbimeh it would have made perfect sense with any team gathering…it could have been the annual company picnic and still worked…assuming the picnic was held indoors on account of rain.
@brennyn@kykazaa@mbimeh But the whole building was empty except for the Christmas party. The other tenants were not going to take the day off because someone is holding their annual whatever party.
@mike808 I love “Galaxy Quest”, but I am not sure how it qualifies. The movies on the poll are movies that take place at Christmas time, but are not “about” Christmas.
I don’t recall any references to it being Christmas time in “Galaxy Quest”
Edit: It occurred to me that perhaps “Galaxy Quest” was released during the Christmas season (looking it up, it was). But IMO that wasn’t the intent of the poll.
I’ve always been on the “Die Hard is a Christmas movie” side of the argument, but I don’t understand those getting their panties in a bunch. It’s right there in the poll title: “What is the Best Christmas movie…”. Surely we understand the qualifier.
All of the choices are in the same vein. They take place at Christmas time and that fact is ancillary to the plot, but they are not “about” Christmas.
“Trading Places” is the most Christmas-y of the bunch, followed by “Gremlins”. If you refute the inclusion of “Die Hard” in the poll, then those movies are more objectionable.
@werehatrack The premise here is the intersection of ‘behold a man’ and ‘I know it when I see it’. Where classic objective classification breaks down. If you make reasonable rules for what makes a movie a Christmas movie, then most of these movies will qualify, and yet they are not ‘classic’ Christmas movies. Once you reach this stage you must admit that there is no objective method to qualify Christmas movies and accept that it is a personal matter or delve into the realm of subjectivity.
It’s Twin Peaks for me. Binge watching the series and having cherry pie from the very same diner at least once in december I know it’s a show but they have a movie too so I count it lol
Die Hard and Gremlins are both Christmas movies.
@yakkoTDI why isnt there a downvote button?
To whom ever wrote this survey: go to hell, Die Hard IS a Christmas movie!
@mbimeh Indeed. The Christmas party is a central point of the plot, without it none of the other events can make sense.
@mbimeh

@brennyn @kykazaa @mbimeh John McClain isn’t going to fly from New York to California for a summer picnic his kids aren’t even attending.

Ghostbusters II
Lethal Weapon
@hchavers yes!
@hchavers that’s always my first answer.
Home Alone, and Alone Again, and Alone Yet Again…
Cast away.
Jaws 4
(not really, just wanted to list a movie of a book that I read in HS, like a really long time ago)
@gwolanin sad story. Poor old Dan and little Ann
@gwolanin @jsh139 First book I read that I cried at the end.
Fix this poll!! Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie
Come out to the coast. We’ll get together. Have a few laughs.
Galaxy Quest
@mike808 such a great film!

I voted for “Trading Places” because I knew everyone was voting for “Die Hard.”
I voted for Trading Places, even though it’s my New Year’s movie. I’d have voted for Lethal Weapon if it had been in the poll.
Deadpool, because it’s the one before Once Upon A Deadpool - which is absolutely a Christmas movie.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
I enjoy the banter between Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer.

Lethal Weapon
Whoever devised this poll needs to provide a definition of “Christmas movie” that fits the premise of the poll, because I’m not seeing one.

Hohoho………now I have a machine gun.
@busdrivermike That is way to fast and backwards. It should be read as “Now I have a machine gun. Ho…Ho…Ho.”
