What's for lunch?
9I know most of you Easties have long since finished your midday meals. Even many of the Westies have probably put lunch in their rear view mirrors. But for those of us that eat when time permits, we take our lunches when we can.
The one-horse town where my office is located only has one fast food choice. I’m not big on fast food anyway, but after a few weeks of it twice a week, I’m over it. As a resort town, there are plenty of dining options that aren’t fast food… but as a resort town, they’re also a paygrade above my budget for daily dining.
So I’ve been making my lunch for the last couple weeks. It’s actually not too terrible. I make it as soon as I get home from work so it’s ready for me the next morning. The downside: I get home around 5:45 or 6pm and I’m starting to feel hungry for supper. So misguided by my hunger, I’ve been making these lunchtime feasts.
Today it’s turkey, salami and swiss with honey mustard on a hoagie roll, red skin potato salad (from the deli), a bit of cottage cheese, some BBQ potato chips, Hostess donut gems, and a banana. Oh, and the ever present can of Pepsi; nectar of the gods.
And yes, I freely admit I got a bit carried away building this sammich.
Hey, when I say I’ve got a GIGANTIC appetite, I’m not kidding. The boy can EAT!

Have not eaten lunch yet. Probably soon.
Should probably have breakfast first.
Then again, the concept of breakfast can be shifted over to lunch if it’s the first meal I’m having.

I’m not a breakfast guy at all. Haven’t been since primary school. I’ve tried. Most important meal of the day and all that rot. But I just can’t get into it.

I had an entire frozen pizza for lunch. Didn’t have much time, so I put it on the top rack close to the heating element with convection mode on.

@CaptAmehrican There used to be a place near my house that would make roasted potato tacos. They were fantastic. A few roasted pots, some pico, splash of guac and sour cream. Delish!

Taco Tote, local Mexican food chain. I’m not sure why they cook their soft drinks though (error on sign).

today is Ash Wednesday, so day o fasting here… having said that, I had swordfish with jalapeno cucumber salsa and a bottle of water for lunch… I just couldn’t bring myself to eat a tuna melt and if you can’t have bacon on an egg salad sandwich, so sense in having it!!

@ruouttaurmind I do feel kinda like a cheater eating an expensive fish for lunch, but that is what they had in the cafeteria. (Good old Catholic guilt)… We were supposed to have homemade pierogies for dinner tonight by my mil is sick.

I’m trying to Drop a few pounds,ok, more than a few, I hit 348 at my last checkup…
so lately my Lunch has been pretty much the same every day.
I did this for a couple months in late '16, and lost about 10lbs/month. with no other changes. then i quit b/c of the holidays, and over the next year gained all 20lbs back plus some…
if i can get the same rate of loss, and stick to it, I could (theoretically) be 100lbs smaller this time next year.
(which i highly doubt, but hey, it COULD happen…)
@earlyre try tracking everything you eat at all meals and snacks using the my fitness pal app. I have been doing this for a year and am down 63 lbs without having to do anything wierd
@earlyre I so feel ya. About ten years ago… well, maybe 11ish years now… I tipped the scale at 330lbs. I’m just a hair over 6 feet tall, so 330lbs was very obvious.
Today I hover around 145, and have been stable at that weight for the last five or six years. At the peak of my weight loss, I would lose 5lbs per week. For a few weeks it was nearly 10lbs. When I was in full-on weight loss mode I actually dipped below 130. At just over six feet tall, 130 was, well, frightening. Clearly I had to change something, and swiftly.
I struggled for so long trying to lose weight, now I struggle to keep it on. Yet another of life’s cruel ironies.
Umm so how do you get that sandwich even IN your mouth? Do you have a double hinged jaw like some reptiles do?
@Kidsandliz Well, as I admitted in the initial post, I got a bit carried away building this one. It actually was too big to fit in my mouth and I couldn’t take a bite. LOL! I had to open it up and eat a couple layers, then put the top back on.
Note to me: not every meal has to be a feast.

I haven’t had a meal yet. I snacked on chocolate at work. Just got home a little bit ago and started dinner. I will be having a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich which is one of my favorites.
I don’t want to talk about calories and weight on Valentine’s Day.

I do have a love/hate relationsip with those Salt and Vinegar ones. When my sisters offer me some, I hate them but cannot stop myself from eating them.

@cinoclav I couldn’t stand how most of their meals had peppers in them.
@RiotDemon That’s similar to my dislike of Progresso and Campbell’s Thick & Chunky soups. They’re like 50% freakin carrots. No matter the flavours, it’s got loads of carrots. Clam chowda? Carrots. Chicken gumbo? Carrots. Chili? Freakin carrots.
@RiotDemon Hmm… I eat a lot of them and this seemed to me to be one of the rare ones with peppers. But maybe I haven’t paid enough attention since I don’t mind them. I’ll be pepper peeping for now on.
@ruouttaurmind carrots I could probably deal with… the peppers were just so damn overpowering. It’s mostly all I tasted.
@RiotDemon I’m with you. I hate peppers and when they’re in anything, they are all I can taste.

@RiotDemon I am thankful I never noticed them removing the Berry Lime Sublime from the menu because I would otherwise had never known I could still order it.

@RiotDemon They’ve been focusing on “healthy” the last couple of years, which means less sugary delicious fruit based drinks, and more disgusting kale and meh breakfasts…

Red skin potato salad is sooooo good. Will pick some up at the store tomorrow. Usually eat it along side garlic stuffed green olives, watermelon, and raspberries. The variety of flavors go well together (imo).
Today’s lunch was Tillamook pepperoni sticks and sliced smoked provolone. Haribo Gold Bears for dessert. BTW, thanks, Meh, for introducing me to those.
@lordbowen The potato salad I had today was red skin spuds. The deli calls it “Red Bliss” salad. It’s hands down the very best potato salad I’ve had outside Emeril’s place in Vegas.

Today we had Jimmy John’s trucked in for the second day in a row. Gotta love all day multi-day training/meetings and flaunting the hotel “no outside food” policy because a) their food kind of sucks and b) they won’t bring lunch into the conference room (yet they stock it with heavy snacks, water and coffee all day every day, so it’s not a no eating in the conference room thing).
The Jimmy John’s sandwiches had about a third of that much meat on them but were altogether decent.
@djslack Hotels baffle me. When I was doing the DJ thing I did loads of weddings. Some of the hoops you have to jump through in certain hotel venues are ridiculous. Several required “musical acts” to become approved vendors before being permitted access to the venue.
One venue in particular demanded a set list prior to the show, and an audit for PRO conformity (public performance licensing via ASCAP, BMI, etc). The set list had to be approved, and I was required to sign an agreement regarding playing what the resort management considered inappropriate music.

I like how your donut container is essentially the same size as a full bag of gem donuts. You’re too classy to eat a full bag though, so you transferred them to a container.
@medz Good catch. No, it’s actually half a bag of gems, or the equivalent of one of those $1 packages at the corner shop checkout. I put them in the container to prevent me from noming the entire bag. If I brought the bag to work I’d wind up snacking through the whole thing.
Actually, a late breakfast. Pancakes and syrup Peeps. Not bad.

@ruouttaurmind I just saw them a couple of days ago. Kroger might be the only store carrying them. Can’t taste any pancakes, but the syrup taste is good.
Leftover pizza: white sauce, bacon, pineapple, red onion with stuffed crust.

I’m late to the party. It’s not even 6 am and I’m already planning lunch. Opening weekend of college baseball at the university of Arkansas so I’ll be having a hot dog, some peanuts, popcorn, and who knows what else.

Because even that would be better than white sauce and pineapple on a pizza

And i know this means I’m about to be a pariah but i like pineapple on my pizza. Not with white sauce tho…that’s reserved for chicken only. Hawaiian pizza is soooooooo good

@ivannabc Order a “hot dog” in the UK and you’ll get something totally different from the stadium dogs you all know and love in the states. It’ll be some kind of sausage usually served on a baguette or hard roll. What you know as “hot dog” is usually called a frankfurter or wiener.
Bonus fun fact: Instead of a hot dog with mustard, you’d order a frankfurter and yellow.

@ELUNO @ruouttaurmind my husband says I don’t really like pineapple on my pizza, i just do it to be trendy. I said I’ve been doing it for 20 years and when have you ever known me to be trendy unless by absolute accident.
My mom went to England two years ago and my son has been twice. I want to go so bad i can’t stand it. I’m a huge British history buff. My buddy from yorkshire gets so tickled when i day fanny pack. So of course i do it fairly often.
