One cat. Little Hel’n Wheelz, lurking in the corner waiting to come shooting out like a rocket to scare the bejesus out of my poor old canines. It’s a wonder they don’t poop in my shoes. I’m confident they believe they should have a vote on any future rescues.
Deja vu, I answered this recently. My bed is a loft, so my PC and a stereo, as well as a bunch of storage. And currently like three inflatable canines.
@katbyter@xobzoo Actually the hoarder’s house across the street from where I used to live had the outside walls separating and the ceiling in one room had come down (foundation problems were the issue with that though). When she died and someone was hired to empty the place out (the family was too overwhelmed to pick though the mess much) I rescued the quilts she had made, photo albums and anything else that looked like it might be sentimental or valuable as the company hired to fill the dumpster (actually it took 3) as they bought things out. I then called the family to come get that stuff.
@katbyter@Kidsandliz@xobzoo in the end that’s a good story because you did something to maybe help save some important or sentimental stuff. As someone with hoarder (I prefer “collector”) tendencies I think “save it all,” and of course you can’t do that.
I am faced with selling my mother’s house (not collapsed; actually well-maintained) and as she got older got rid of a lot of stuff. But this Summer I have to go find any other important papers and a few other items (she made sure we had things she valued like the jewelry which was nice but not super-valuable). After that hope to sell house as-is either to neighbors or to those companies that say “we will buy your house and just leave anything in it you don’t want.” It’s difficult but it’s the only way forward.
@katbyter@Kidsandliz@pmarin@xobzoo Some time ago there was a story on the news about a house in Denver that was apparently abandoned. The elderly guy who lived there hadn’t been seen for a while and his relatives lived far away. The city finally contacted them, and when they opened the house it was absolutely crammed with stuff piled high, lots of trash, etc. I guess they hired a company to clear it, and the owner was found dead under one of the piles; the body had been there for a long time.
@katbyter@Kidsandliz@Kyeh@pmarin@xobzoo My wife’s step-dad died earlier this week (6 days after his 97th birthday). He built his house in 1971 and has lived in it since. My wife’s mom will move into assisted living, leaving the (adult) children to deal with all the accumulated stuff. Fortunately, although there is a lot, it is pretty well ordered and there is a will, though I’m not sure how detailed it is regarding the disposition of all the effects. Interesting times ahead .
@Star2236 I have stuff stored under my bad now so there’s no room for the monsters.
I do still find it hard to sleep without a cover though - so even on the hottest night I want a sheet pulled up. I guess those vampires are powerless against sheets!
Having a Dachshund and Pomeranian, the bed itself is on the floor. I’d like to find some kind of soft bed frame that gives them a step up to the bed without being uncomfortable for the humans.
@Fuzzalini
My mom has two dachshunds and has some doggie steps so they can climb up onto the bed even though they don’t sleep in it. My nephew thinks the steps are for him to get up into their bed and bring his toy motorcycle up the steps and ride it around their bed.
@Star2236 yeah we have steps for our sofa, and they would probably use the steps to a bed. But I’ve known at least two people who had dogs break their legs falling off the bed and it just scares the crap out of me. What we need is a very soft landing underneath the bed in case they did fall. Or we can just sleep on the floor.
The dust bunny colony under the bed occasionally sends out raiding parties to explore the rest of the room and the hall, but so far none of them have been armed well enough to resist the industrial-strength cordless vac. The cats appear to have a treaty with the colony, as they can pass freely through it, and I strongly suspect that they’ve agreed to shed a little more heavily under there as tribute.
A floor, some air space, and The World. I’m glad The World is down there because it provides that “gravity” thing that keeps me from floating off into space while I sleep.
@rockblossom Well you could anchor your bed (and you to your bed) to the floor and then the gravity thing would mean all the junk you may or may not have all over the floor would be out of of the way on the ceiling… just sayin’. It would probably be useful just to turn off gravity in the bedrooms rather than all over the house.
@Kidsandliz It’s an old house that has power outages. Sometimes, when the power comes back on, it turns on something (lights, fans) that was switched off. I would hate to have the power come on and reactivate the gravity while stuff was on the ceiling. And there might be some crossover into the bathroom. I really don’t want the gravity to go off in the bathroom. Like - ever.
I have a three bedroom house and each bedroom has a different size bed. So I have an under bed storage bin that stores the extra sheets for that bed instead of having to dig through the linen closet for the correct size.
A portal to another dimension and lots of slippers. Under the spare bedroom bed is a storage box with lots of shoes I don’t wear much anymore but will never get ride of.
What? Don’t you mean who?
/showme the body @yakkoTDI is hiding under the bed
@haydesigner @yakkoTDI Found the furry!
Two of the above.
/showme what’s under the bed
@mycya4me Yikes.
/showme how many cats are under the bed

My old futon mattress in a protective bag. In case anyone needs to sleep over.
Drawers. I got an IKEA bedframe that has four drawers as part of the frame. Because my house is so damn small I need storage wherever I can get it.
I can’t look, it’s dark outside!!! Who knows who is lurking under there?!?!?!?
But its actually charlies giant crate, because there is no other good spot to store it.
@tinamarie1974 So does the crate collapse to fit under there? Or is your bed up on stilts?
@Kyeh Its this, I purchased it when he had his toe amputated. Couldnt have him out and about when I was sleeping and couldnt keep an eye on him.
It is massive, I could lay in their with him

@tinamarie1974 So it folds down flat, okay!

The monster has blue eyes.
@xobzoo wow.

.
Not sure i really want to know…
For a while when I was a kid I’d flip off the light switch and then leap into bed from about a yard away so the thing wouldn’t get me by the ankles.
@Kyeh I do that now, but it’s mostly to annoy araT when she’s reading in bed
@ybmuG What a scoundrel!
@Kyeh
I still do that now bc of whatever’s under there and make sure the covers are pulled up over my neck so the vampires can’t bite my neck.
@Star2236 I have stuff stored under my bad now so there’s no room for the monsters.

A monster… It come out at night to harvest energy from my innocent laughter.
@OnionSoup
Yeah, innocent, that’s right…

Ours are mostly composed of St. Bernard hair any more…

Cat fur. So much cat fur for only 1 cat. My Roomba can’t keep up. Damn you White Cat!
@Rogman I heard Roomba might be going bankrupt so that means the cats win!
It was inevitable.
Guitars!.. a Gibson Les Paul, a PRS custom SE and Fender Stratocaster
@eddhernandez are they laying on the floor? that isn’t bad for them? (i know nothing about these things)
Aliens.
@JT954 they need to pay rent

@ironcheftoni Now that is smart.

Man why didn’t I ever think of that.

A pokey puppy who has figured out how to army crawl under the platform much to my chagrin.
