Snowblind by Christopher Golden
One small, New England town is taken by storm and nothing will ever be the same. Once upon a time, Coventry weathered a horrific blizzard, one that left many people dead and others mysteriously lost. Twelve years later, the town is still haunted by the snow that fell that one fateful night and now a new storm is on the way.
Just finished up Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Omg. Mayan gods and 1920s Mexico, what isn’t to love? I’ll be starting her other books next.
I tend to read non-fiction more than fiction. While I am certainly avoiding anything that might be “bleak and terrible” I don’t know that it would classify as “escapist”, except in the broadest sense.
I am mostly working and allowing myself media distraction, haven’t been good at making time for long form fiction.
Bought a pile of TOR books on sale, going to give them a shot if I can. It’s been a while since I’ve dug into anything new that reads easy. I miss being in that headspace.
I may re-listen to the audio book of “Decluttering at the Speed of Life” by Dana White, creator of a Slob Comes Clean. I love her ideas and presentation style. She really helped motivate me to get rid of some crap I bought from various sites. I need to continue doing that.
Minor Feelings by Cathy Park Hong
This book really captures to me the feeling of marginalization of being an Asian-American in a society that often does not look beyond black and white.

Where does books for work fall? Yes, it is bleak but helps me escape the present by focusing on the future.
Everything I read is escapism. Counterbalances the newspaper and TV news.

@pooflady Then you probably didn’t see this Mutts comic on Sunday?
@chienfou Did you try entering “pooflady” in giphy to get that gif?

I’m reading “The Elements of Scrum”. Woo hoo! Can’t wait to find out how it ends.
@heartny I thought this was about rugby until I looked it up. Rugby would be better.
@sammydog01 Rugby would most likely be better for sure, but it probably wouldn’t help me with my job requirements.
@heartny anything left undone gets rolled over into the next sprint, or kicked to the backlog. Over and over and over. For all eternity.
@heartny @UncleVinny oh man! You ruined the ending for me.
Mistborn by Brian Sanderson
Neil Gaiman’s Graveyard Book
@ChompyGator Liking it so far? I love his other stuff
I’m reading stupid polls, obviously.
Reading the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton… back to back to back… only 27 books plus a few short stories… i’m 21 books in.
@inanna Impressive!
Hey! I finished The Fifth Risk! It was pretty good. The first two sections, anyway. Third section blew goats.
Now I’m starting Thinking Fast and Slow, and there’s no fuckin way I’m making it through more than two chapters.

@UncleVinny Thank you for the blowing goats. It was my 1st and perhaps my only laugh of the day.

@moonhat Yes! What about those of us who read bleak terrible escapism?!
@InnocuousFarmer @moonhat Is that including the meh forum? Never mind…Just answered my own question.
After reading comments on forums and news, it becomes scary. And so I read the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

My favorite currently-publishing author has just posted a free collection of short fiction!
LMK if that link doesn’t work and I’ll copy/paste the direct links to the files.
edit to add: this tweet has links to mobi and epub files:
(sorry, this was a bit clumsy, but it’s all there)
Steller, thank you @DennisG2014!
I’ve been listening to the mockingjay while trying to go to sleep at night, and reading far too many Facebook posts.
