What3Words
4Saw an article on a little startup called What3Words that reminded me of meh.com's order number method. I tried it on several of my order numbers. Some were a hit, some used words that aren't in What3Words' dictionary (uhh, coordinates grid wordmap?). Some of the hits are in the middle of the ocean (wiry.catastrophic.carp zoom out!). Some of them are of slightly interesting places. I'm-a-gonna post the location in the product thread whenever I purchase something that matches a What3Words location. :-)

Check out flying.purple.unicorn.
This is fun!
Purple?
My fukubukuro shipment is in the Southern Ocean about halfway between New Zealand and Antarctica. Insert SmartPost joke here.
@SSteve I ordered a part I needed for an engine last week. It went from New Jersey to Kentucky. Then from Kentucky to Knoxville. Then from Knoxville back to Kentucky? Then back to Knoxville. It's on it's way! Then to Atlanta ?? Back to Knoxville before finally coming to my local post office. 3 day-priority took 7 working days due to all the errors. Just glad I finally got it at this point
@capguncowboy I have heard, and I do not know if this is true, or if it's still true, or what… but I have heard that there are incompatibilities with FedEx and USPS labeling standards that occasionally cause SmartPost deliveries to get stuck in a loop wherein the return address is confused for the destination… The irregular path eventually gets flagged and a human intervenes.
My favorite (exemplary-synonymous-goat) is out in the South Pacific, off the coast of Peru.
I want to point out that this is GIS and so technically job-related for me. That's right, I'm working here.
That is fun. I live in some interesting boxes, heh. But, privacy I guess.
Though my dog sometimes shits in overjoyed.fluffy.clots!
@PocketBrain I agree that we should start posting location with an image hit.
I was disheartened for a while, because I somehow changed it to an African (?) language. But after clicking someone's link it's back to English.
I only have one Meh order and it didn't result in anything.
My work, however is at fish.dozen.loyal
@fury Cool. Do you ever walk to Twins games? For about eight months I worked a few blocks from AT&T (née Pacific Bell) Park. I walked to a few games and watched a few innings through the right field wall.
@SSteve just moved to that office in July, but did catch two afternoon Twins games last season. I actually left work and went to the game (like with a ticket). I take the bus into the city so I got good and drunk at the game and sobered up on the ride back to my car in the suburbs. Oddly, I've been to AT&T Park as well, and it's beautiful. I stayed in San Bruno (I'm cheap) and took the CalTrain into the city each day we were there. Things I learned in SF: the cool breeze is deceptive to a Midwesterner who (stupidly) doesn't realize you can get sunburned in what feels like cool temperatures. The public transportation there is great. The Golden Gate is really long. Lots of people drink on the CalTrain.
@fury AT&T really is a beautiful park. I got a little tired of the Fox announcers continually saying that during the World Series, though.
My house has a few very nice 3-word phrases. Especially the one over my wood shop. It would be fun to write a program that would take a street address and spit out all the phrases found on that piece of property. There must be a public API that takes a street address and returns the latitude, longitude corners of the property.
@SSteve I'm pretty sure Google has one of those.
Some seem strangely accurate. Pillows.atomic.warrior is a bunch of B52 bombers near my house.
@djslack Cool. Do you play in Hooter Park? ;)
@mehjohnson Nah, that's pretty rough territory. But the real Hooters here is at suppers.chest.lighter strangely enough.
@djslack Nice.
I work close to fever.knocking.topical.
I live near island.train.cowboys but my fukubukuro is currently lives off the coast of Vanuatu http://map.what3words.com/pudgy-vapid-roof
@Squid_07 My fuku is in the Indian Ocean. Hope it floats!
Oatmeal.amount.guardian is a pretty Meh. place.
@tightwad Oooh, cool. Could be a whole new semi-creepy pastime of suggesting which phrase different meh staffers sit in (and what might fit better); how many phrases the speaker docks are using, etc.
@mehjohnson I don't have the patience to hover over so many squares. But maybe @matthew sits in quench.prone.however bc his Drinking Terribles. If someone sits in splat.pulse.trailing. next to listings.primary.flesh , they may want to move their workspace for beter vibes.
@mehjohnson Indeed. I sit at keep.rods.means not far away.
@tightwad I see you have a wading pool with fountain out back for relaxing breaks.
@mehjohnson Yes, although they pulled a body out one day, which was disturbing...
My house is (something).pretty.ground. My Built cases (mannerly-sparkling-flock) are in the amazon watershed in Northern Brazil.
I love maps. I love W3W!
Thanks, @PocketBrain!
@KDemo YVW. ;-)
The best Chipotle in the world is at purple.thus.assets.
@joelmw Never tried Chipotle in downtown...I rarely want that other than lunch, which isn't downtown
@tightwad I work at linked.melt.dragon, so it's close. They know me be name there, so they're doing the gluten-free prep when they spot me in line. They actually train staff for other Chipotles there. Seriously, I've been to several and this one is by far the best. They're open kinda late, relative to other businesses in the area.

Apparently, gourmands of a particular variety should check out this building just to the northeast of Iowa city.
giant.purple.people
@joelmw looks like purple.people.eater lives in Siberia. He must vacation in Iowa. http://map.what3words.com/purple.people.eater
I used to live at Resides Hippy Whispers
happier.toast.faster
I like it!

If you like this brilliant idea (and, let's not forget, it's simpatico with the meh order "number" system), you should go vote for them to get some startup money.

It's GIS and it's words, so I had both a professional and personal duty.
@joelmw Voted. Thanks for the heads-up, I'm in love with this project.
@joelmw Voted! Coolness.
I live at glorious.tech.anticipation, which is completely appropriate.
@TheCowGod Someone have an accident in your car that required hosing things down?
@shawn new slash command idea?
So last week I was at the big international GIS conference, and what3words was a featured partner. They’ve recently released an API for Esri (as they have for various other, lesser, GIS platforms) and are breaking out all over the place.
Mongolia adopted them for standard post.
There’s a ton going on with these guys and they’re announcing partnerships and use cases galore.
What makes it cooler is that they’re a UK company, so the folks at their booth and in the presentation I attended all spoke in a delightful British accent.
Finally, one of my other favorite things in the world, the Washington Post Style Invitational, is using them for its current word play contest.
@joelmw - The w3w thing is such an amazing concept, it’s great to know that they’re getting some recognition.
As far as I know, you, me, and @pocketbrain are the only ones that have been checking w3w for meh order numbers, and posting results in the product threads.
I have Meh from a friend. She recommend it to me and now i’m here
