Well it doesn’t feel like summer because it’s not quite hot enough but it doesn’t feel like fall because we don’t have fall we have and I quote hot, very hot, very very hot, not so hot. So today was hot by most people’s standards
It was perfect Halloween weather today. Started out in the mid to low 70s and got gloomier and gloomier as the wind picked up, and dipping down into the 40s tonight . Love this weather
It felt like summer - high 70s, a few 80s, until last Thursday. Then one day that felt like fall, then a drop into winter for the past 4 days (16 degrees predicted tonight.)
This poll question only makes sense if you’re relatively new to wherever you live. After about three years, the weather feels like whatever it’s supposed to feel like relative to where you are…
Feels like winter here in Houston at this very moment. It will likely only last a day or two though and then it will feel like fall or possibly even mild summer.
@werehatrack I was sure if I should call “high in the 80’s” summer or fall. I think fall is more accurate but probably means something different to most people.
@lisaviolet You must live near me. That’s how the weather was in Maryland Monday and Tuesday. I resisted turning on the AC Monday and today the idea of turning on the heat crossed my mind.
It feels like the annual Aggravation Season around here - from late October to early December. It’s when I get inundated with e-mail, snail mail, and phone calls for Medicare supplements I do not want or need, which are tailored to look/sound like some official gov’ment stuff I’m required to respond to. Not to be confused with the official gov’ment stuff reminding me 10 times in different formats to get flu/covid shots - arriving after I’ve gotten the shots. And the official VA letter asking for my blood. Literally. They want me to go to the VA and give them a blood sample, plus permission to access all of my medical records. I say “NO!” and then next October I will get an identical letter. And another phone call today from a stranger who wants to buy my house, which is not up for sale. They got my number from public records. And it was summer last week and 21 degrees this morning. I passed one of my neighbors out finishing up his yard mowing while wearing an overcoat. I haven’t finished mine yet. I hate mowing frozen grass. And I went to the grocery store and they were putting out Christmas decorations while wishing everyone a Happy Halloween.
a stranger who wants to buy my house, which is not up for sale
I get letters - the ones I loathe the most are supposedly from some lovely young couple who are “so eager to buy my house and start their family in their dream home” - yeeeah, right. My small old house in this location is 100% going to be scraped for a Mcmansion, like all the other small old houses that used to be in the neighborhood.
@Kyeh Yeah. The problem here is that tax assessments are only done every five years and are frozen when the principle owners turns 65. My property and that of various neighbors now have a market value two to three times that of the assessment. So they look for old people who don’t really understand the difference between tax value and market value, offer to buy their property at a percentage above the “assessment” with a quick closing, then flip the property at market value. It used to be harder when people had to go to the county office to look at records, but now they are all online - property records, owner info including phone numbers, taxes paid, and market price. They can run their “business” right from a computer or smart phone. I keep telling them to bugger off, then another one calls.
@rockblossom How disgusting. I’ve heard from friends who’ve had realtors show up at their doors to try to convince them to sell; luckily none of them have fallen for it.
@Kyeh@rockblossom I keep increasing my asking price for those vultures. If one of them actually bites on my numbers and terms, I’ll smile real big and take their money. That’s not going to happen. They’re looking to buy well below market, and in the case of this place, bulldoze it and build something three times the size. There’s plenty of lot.
I hope you all tell those scammers that you will be happy to sell for $300 billion.
But you won’t do a contract until they pass a finds on hand check.
You won’t do a mortgage of any kind. It Hass to be a cash offer.
The earnest money fee will be 1 billion upfront.
It will be in contract that they cannot tear down the house or substantially enlarge it’s size.
The title transfer will not take place until the funds are verified and cleared in full and you’ve been transferred them to Switzerland to your new Swiss bank account
And you’re going to report them to the local police department and the FBI just in case because they bothered you
@Kyeh
Bandit still inside (guilted into it by the vet due to broken leg… 6 weeks ago)
Smokey has a cozy spot to snuggle in and gets to come in to play with Bandit a couple times a day.
Next week both will be boarded in a kitty condo at the vet while we take Mom’s stuff to my sister’s for her re-location. Gonna be driving a Penske van from Montgomery area to KC area.
Hey, mehtizens…Wave and honk if you see me out there!!
@chienfou Oh, poor Bandit’s still recovering, huh?
And you’re finally passing the caregiver torch to your sister, very good! I hope it all goes smoothly.
@Kyeh
yeah, he is still ‘recovering’ but I think he is milking it for all it’s worth. He and Smokey chase each other around the house and wrestle when she is inside and he doesn’t seem to have any trouble with it.
Little bastard sneaks out the door every chance he gets and then promptly runs up some tree or post or something. We were letting him stay outside part of the day but the vet had a shit-fit. She gave us some gabapentin to knock his ass down a bit, which seems to help… maybe. I mean what do I know? He’s a cat so he job it to sleep all the time anyway with occasional bursts of rambunctiousness thrown in for good measure.
I think he is malingering!
As for Mom we have a going away party planned for Saturday at lunchtime then she and Sis fly out on Sunday. Will drive to Nashville and camp out at the kids/grandkids house overnight Monday then on to my wife’s aunts house to drop off a few family things we want her to have from SWMBO’s side of the family then on to KC to drop off Mom’s stuff.
Will meet with a financial planner to try to knock out her investment stuff and get a new will, Medicare plan and bank accounts set up etc. then fly home on the next Saturday.
@natasha_natasha
I know what you mean. Have a couple of really nice winter coats that I rarely get a chance to wear. The last few days it’s gotten down to the mid 30s by the time I left work at 11:30 at night. I’ve tried to remember to grab my fleece jacket and put it on when I left for the car. Not sure I’d really miss it if I didn’t have it with me…
Summer.
saw first snowflakes of the season today. very fall like!
Well it doesn’t feel like summer because it’s not quite hot enough but it doesn’t feel like fall because we don’t have fall we have and I quote hot, very hot, very very hot, not so hot. So today was hot by most people’s standards
Today is fall 43 degrees. Tomorrow is winter 28 degrees and snow.
@honeybeehives this afternoon, it was 40 degrees, AND snowing… at the same time…
welcome to Ohio…

The winter is here, for a day or two more.
Yes.
I live in Dallas. Hot one day, cold the next.
Pacific Northwest chiming in here. It feels like early winter - fairly cold but without the accompanying nasty weather (which comes a little later)
Tampa here. Feels like early summer, aka Spring Training weather - my favorite!!
.
Mid 80s, low humidity, and wall-to-wall blue sky

@cbatte Back to a high in the '80s for the weekend.
@werehatrack I was sure if I should call “high in the 80’s” summer or fall. I think fall is more accurate but probably means something different to most people.
It was in the 70s last Friday, then yesterday (three days later) we saw our first frost and snow on the ground. So straight from summer to winter
@geekahedron
upper 20’s, snow accumulation
@rtjhnstn where did it snow?
🌨
️
@tinamarie1974 Milwaukee area
It is going to be interesting for the Trick or Treat crowd
@rtjhnstn @tinamarie1974
We got snow in CO too.
Garlic Salt and rosemary.
@OnionSoup Chili powder here
We have had some really warm weather for the past couple of days. I’m glad that it’s getting colder again.
What time of day? This is from yesterday.
@lisaviolet You must live near me. That’s how the weather was in Maryland Monday and Tuesday. I resisted turning on the AC Monday and today the idea of turning on the heat crossed my mind.
@lisagd Other side of the country. Inland San Diego.

Early Fall as I am in the South! Last week it was in the 80. Now it is 40-50s I would not doubt next week it will be in the 70’s
Late summer. We only get truly comfortable outdoor weather down here between early November and late March.
@PooltoyWolf LOL we’re polar opposites on this one…that’s when I’m the most miserable

Dropped from highs in the 80s to low tonight about 34 in past 2 days!
@chienfou
Gonna freeze tonight… so now it’s move the outdoor plants to safety season
@chienfou Where do the kitties sleep now - the pool house?
@Kyeh

@chienfou Oh, that Bandit!
Well-named, it seems! I hope the trip goes very well.
We are experiencing “Fools Winter” this week here in southwestern Ohio. Big frozen snow crystals fell on us while giving candy out to the kiddies.
82 today. 83 tomorrow. One day next week is supposed to be in the mid 60’s and I’m excited about that because I’m 100% wearing a coat that day.
@natasha_natasha

We got winter for a week or two
