plus she had me rig a custom CCTV feed that was streamed to any device with a compatible browser (this was before "apps"). Thankfully, she worked her way past a lot of these issues . . . .
Myself, I just went with the flow and turned the shit off after she fell asleep. Used to make her mad as hell -
@Pavlov When we first had our son sleeping in his room, we had the monitor cranked to where you could hear every movement. Eventually turned it down after a week. I think every parent goes through that anxiety.
I've had 3. They were all by Summer. 2 were a simple camera with night vision but the third was a sweet one where you could pan and tilt the camera and talk through it. I've managed to destroy all 3 receivers. One got eaten by the mechanical workings of my recliner. One spent the night on a bench swing in the rain, and the last one hit the baby gate a bit hard when I haphazardly threw it up the stairs. Might be the results of some subconscious aggression on my part. My youngest is right on the other side of the wall, but for some reason we "need" the monitor and I'm the one who has to fumble around looking for it if it isn't on my nightstand.
Wifi Baby webcam. Since the audio kinda sucks on it, we have an Angelcare basic sound monitor, as well.
Truthfully, after awhile, we were able to tell by the type and volume of her cry whether or not you need to get up and go comfort them. I'm not sure we really need the video monitor any longer.
My wife had a lot of anxiety after my son was born and used something very similar to this:

BUT,
It all worked out just fine.

Do cat pictures count?
I use a Foscam setup, pretty similar to this Motorola one.
@okaytodd me too. It came out to be pretty cheap and i'll use it as a security cam once he's old enough. :)
Small apartment to small house- a monitor is extraneous. I was an obsessive "checker" though.
The other half could hear a baby cough 1/2 mile away. Cold feet in my back got me up to go check it out. We don't need no stinkin' monitor.

I use old iPad 2 as baby monitor.

Geez I am old. We were grateful to have crackly sound monitors, no video, and we had to walk 5 miles uphill in the snow to get to the baby's room.
