A non-negotiable for me on a travel bag is a clip sewn in to a front pocket to attach my keys to. After locking up, I clip them in and I know exactly where they are when I get home - even if it’s 3 weeks later
I’m . . . not sure where the house keys are, actually. Low-crime area + friendly, observant neighbors + friends regularly coming over to feed the cats and chickens when we’re away = little need to lock the house, like, ever.
When I say “low crime,” I mean low. Homicides are in the single digits per decade in my county, and home invasions aren’t much higher. We make up for it in DUIs and meth labs, but that doesn’t really apply here.
I’ve got a bunch of keys. Each set is on it’s own little ring then they’re all clipped together. I always leave the ones I won’t be needing in the vehicle and just take the car key with me. I like just carrying one key with me when I can everyday while still having others nearby when needed. On the long trips if I’m parking my car at the airport I’ll usually just carry the little key that opens the door manually.
So by “long trip” are you referencing one of these “vacation” things I’ve been hearing about? I haven’t been able to take one of those for about three (maybe four?) years. I still do not know how “normal” people can afford to jet off to some exotic land, just because they need a break from work… I guess I did fly to Memphis for two days in 2018 for work, but I just left my stack of keys in the glove compartment of my car. I almost felt lost without them though…See previous post about the number of keys I normally have on my person.
There’s a small pocket OGIO includes on the top of most of their bags that is the right size for my keys and my wallet. I put both in there while I’m in the airport and actually flying. I leave the keys there until I get back from the trip.
I usually clip my keys to my rightmost belt loop for regular use. On vacations, I clip that set into my carry-on luggage inside. I’ve been successful in not losing my carry-on so far, so it works. I also have Tile on it, so there’s a little Bluetooth security on top.
Hmm. Meh has our addresses. Then they ask details about our home security setup. And now they want to know where we keep our housekeys when on long trips. I’m waiting for the poll question about where we hide our valuables, while the daily deal is for one of those “hide your valuables in a soup can” thing.
