@katbyter@phendrick I think the inventory of Apple 30-pin connector accessories (like speaker docks) has run out, but we can expect a few years of lightning-connector things.
Tactical knives that are equipped with lights, Bluetooth, and despicably outdated charging connectors (like micro-USB, or some weird barrel plug thing that is just slightly too long for standard adapters to work with the product).
@arosiriak ‘Despicably outdated’ isn’t a good thing to call Micro USB, to be honest. It’s still in use on a LOT of stuff, especially low end and/or cheap stuff, as well as the vast install base of existing products still using it. Despicably outdated? Mini USB maybe, or all those proprietary connectors the various brands’ flip phones used in the early 2000s, heh!
@PooltoyWolf I have a “USB 3.0” DVD burner that turned out to be 2.0 because inside, it uses a mini-USB to SATA adapter. Also despite being manufactured in 2022, the drive inside was a (used) HP unit from 2011.
@narfcake That makes sense! Some unlucky customer bought it “new” from a Chinese deal site, realized what it was, donated it because they couldn’t get a refund, and then you found it. I’m sure you paid the better price heh. Does it actually work?
@PooltoyWolf Without taking it apart, the original purchaser probably wouldn’t have realized that. I wouldn’t have either, except no, it didn’t initially work, so of course I opened it up.
(It worked after I unplugged and replugged the adapter. It was loose.)
@PooltoyWolf Thanks for chiming in. I agree that the install base is enormous, and I would rarely advocate adding to e-waste by simply replacing something due to having an older connector. I still have a few of those devices in my own home, whether in my own server shelf, or some of the smart home accessories. Still relevant in that sense, but that doesn’t mean that I would agree that anything should have been using it for the last several years, low-end or otherwise…
However, I stand by the description, given that micro-USB was/is a terrible, destructive, and quite old connector. It was also supplanted almost exactly a decade ago by the backwards-compatible allowances in the 2014 finalization for the USB-C connector. And if you prefer to use a more broad acceptance of the newer standard, even the IEC adoption of that was 2016, or roughly eight years ago, also when the first gen Pixel phone was so equipped. With the existence of a newer, better, and standard connector, I would still suggest that the descriptor fits. A strong install base does not make an old, and poorly designed port/connector any less outdated, or despicable (or less likely to rip out the guts of many devices if the silly latches don’t correctly detach before a user unceremoniously yanks the whole thing into oblivion).
And I totally agree about the cornucopia of options from the 2000s, and the several phone brands that wanted to lock users into their own chargers. That was bogus.
@narfcake I still have an external optical drive that runs on Mini-USB/USB 2.0… It’s a backup drive that I use for recovery efforts whenever I need to boot a machine into an alternate OS. Hasn’t failed me yet, so I will keep using it gladly.
@xobzoo It’s neither a typo nor intentional. It’s my phone’s godd*mn Autocorrect thinking it knows better than I do and not recognizing Eveready as a word.
Bamboo clothing. I want inexpensive bamboo shirts. The underwear you sold was great.
Stuff that isn’t food. I either won’t buy it because it doesn’t look good. Or I’ll buy it because it looks good and I fear I might eat too much of it. I’m guessing it must sell well though because you keep selling it.
I need a new Ninja Blender…, in general, fun kitchen appliances are always fun.
Those colourful frying pans you sold (something grove), I would love to see more from that brand. Those are nice pans and have held up well, even to the abuse of the kids. Any more items from that line?
If you can ever get a partnership with Ryobi to sell some of their tools that would be great!
Badger paraphernalia. Especially Badger Statues. You don’t sell enough Badger things. Not Wisconsin badgers, not Harry Potter badgers… Just general badgers.
@OnionSoup I’ll second that motion for more Ninjas! Especially of the “bullet” variety, those sized perfectly for a protein shake; not too big, not too small. Not asking for much!
@Kyeh@OnionSoup Ooof, I love Ryobi and have a whole slew of the One Plus tools… but it’s hard to imagine them coming up with something so unuseful as to end up on Meh.
@brainmist@Kyeh yes, bit of a stretch I know, especially since they’re limited on where they will sell. Typically just their own outlet store and Home Depot… But maybe if they had seconds or refurbished.
@brainmist Sorry, didn’t mean to offend. I’m one of the immunocompromised and thought most knew about the fact most KN95’s give false hope. From CDC…From CDC on KN95
@brainmist@Byter I am also immune compromised. Powcom always were on the CDC list. I use those. I get them directly from the importer - no shipping and no sales tax.
on that page a 15% discount (Use coupon code 2024 for a 15% discount when checking out) however on a different page 20% off "Please use coupon code WINTER20 for a 20% discount - FREE GROUND SHIPPING "
If you have a really large head these will likely be too small. At least at one point they sold larger ones and kids ones but I didn’t look at the current inventory.
@Byter Ooof, sorry, never meant to imply I was offended, I’m just one of the few I know who even bother anymore, so I’m used to seeing masks denigrated.
I should have specified “actual genuine”. Because yeah, there are fakes, that originally were identified.
I do wonder how much the CDC even bothers to keep up with what their leadership has declared “a scarlet letter”. After 3 years of an appalling toll, they abandoned their excess deaths count right before the anticipated fall wave. I never would have thought I’d look at the CDC as just an arm of contentless propaganda. But here we are.
I’m inclined to think even a subpar “KN95” is better than a saggy blue. But the voices that should have provided this guidance have long since been silenced.
@brainmist On the occasions when I use a mask, which aren’t too often in fact, I rely on the 3M Aura N95 ones that are still widely available, albeit also at a significantly higher unit cost than the CN95 and their ilk. If I think a mask is warranted in a given situation, I do not bemoan the extra cost for the real ones. In my first use of them, I was sharing a hotel room with someone who came up plague-positive on the third night of a four-day event, and I came away safe. Given that it can be contracted via microdroplets hitting the eyes, a certain amount of luck - and possibly resistance - was probably involved as well, but I’m inclined to go with what appears to have worked for me in the past.
@brainmist@Byter I just checked the 6 pages of inventory. No larger sizes but they do have kids sizes too. Also many colors with ear loops and the n95 style with the two loops that go around your head. If the straps are too tight you can stretch them out by hooking them over two hooks for a while and that will stretch them out a bit.
@Byter@Kidsandliz fun thing I discovered: my ears are too floppy for earloops. If I don’t use a retainer strap, they eventually flop right off. I gather that’s one of the weaknesses of KN95, but it’s dependent on the person.
@werehatrack Auras are my favorite, and honestly? I’d rather pay that than deal with being sick. I’ve been wearing glasses a lot more too.
I’m not immunocompromised either; I just don’t like getting sick if I can help it. But I know some folks who are, and need them for customers; they will happily accept more.
@Kyeh@werehatrack “Meh-dicine” would be the perfect offshoot for meh! They could offer near or already-expired meds at a significant discount, just like the foods here. Most meds (with a few exceptions that they would have to steer clear of) don’t truly “expire” until years after listed date, especially when stored correctly, and sealed from the elements.
So, according to your own bot. You should sell, sporting equipment, paint brushes, phones, computers, prize ribbons, RVs, and are those green things: trees, shrubs, or brocolli?
I’ll take three first prize ribbons and a winnebago please? Actually, I do need some paint brushes. I’ll take some expired brocolli too please!
Joking aside… the trees… you might look into partnering with a nursery to sell bare-root plants for shipment. I suspect some nurseries have extra stock this time of year they’re desperately trying to get rid of while the plants are still viable, and it would certainly be something different.
@OnionSoup There’s a lot of interesting stuff in that picture - a kind of AI meets product designer on acid. I like the double walled pans, the mystery electronics, balloon lightbulbs and the apparent speaker dock bonzai planter. Oh, and the random bus in the middle
Shoehorns. The kind with teeth.
@shahnm There are kinds with teeth?
@brainmist @shahnm

Dollars at a discount.
I give you $5 and you ship me $100.
@yakkoTDI You can get a better deal on the 'Zon, but it says “For motion picture use” on the bills, in Chinese.
Knives, flashlights, candy corn, fidget spinners, speaker docks, I’m sure I can think of something else
@Cerridwyn Batteries/Power banks.
@Cerridwyn @yakkoTDI Something like trackrs. Except with a working app and batteries that aren’t dead.
@Cerridwyn I think I have that t-shirt.
@mehcuda67, I have received quite a few with gasp! working batteries! And yes, I was very surprised.
drone.horse sorta crap please
Anything else!
$5 IRKS!!
@IndifferentDude I’d settle for the $10 ones. I think shipping has gone up enough that the $5 Ones cost them more than that to ship and pack
Grocery items?
@Salanth only if near-expired. and best if previously stored in a hot shipping container for one or two Summers in Texas.
@pmarin @Salanth So ramen and other pasta.
@brainmist @pmarin @Salanth I heard a rumor Candy Corn survives that…
@Kidsandliz @pmarin @Salanth is that… Grossery?
@brainmist @pmarin I had never had ziti before Pasta Drop and I no longer want to eat it ever again.
Got any established credit card company to sell us, on the cheap? That seems to be where all the revenue is currently.
Sell us the Next Big Thing, before everyone else hears about it.
@phendrick more like the last big thing, once everyone else is done with it. Or it’s about to expire.
@katbyter @phendrick I think the inventory of Apple 30-pin connector accessories (like speaker docks) has run out, but we can expect a few years of lightning-connector things.
@katbyter @phendrick @pmarin Somehow I missed those, and I have a couple old iPods.
At least I only spent $5-ish for it.
@narfcake Holy crap, where did you buy it? Haha! Sounds like the kind of shady stuff you’d get from Wish or similar.
@PooltoyWolf That may have been its original source. In my case, I purchased it second hand from a thrift store.
@narfcake What will you do with it now? Seems a good candidate for inclusion into the ‘Hall of Shame’.
@PooltoyWolf Thanks for chiming in. I agree that the install base is enormous, and I would rarely advocate adding to e-waste by simply replacing something due to having an older connector. I still have a few of those devices in my own home, whether in my own server shelf, or some of the smart home accessories. It’s been more than a day since I bought a catshirt I didn’t need.
@narfcake … depends on how you define “need,”
especially when it comes to catshirts.
@pmarin Yes.
Sansas.
@Pamela Oh yeah, especially the ones with the proprietary connector. I still have 1 or 2. somewhere.
Everyday Silver AA and AAA batteries!
@PooltoyWolf I’m still trying to decide if “Everyday” is a typo or intentional. It could go either way.
And I wouldn’t be opposed to getting a large volume of batteries for a good price.
@PooltoyWolf @xobzoo My bet is more on odd toe co wreck.
@xobzoo It’s neither a typo nor intentional. It’s my phone’s godd*mn Autocorrect thinking it knows better than I do and not recognizing Eveready as a word.
@narfcake @xobzoo Bingo.
Leak Frogs!
/image Leak Frog
@katbyter mine finally bit the dust, so I actually kinda do need a new leak frog
@katbyter Yes! I have other water alarms but Leak Frog is the cutest.
@katbyter The other day SWMBO said: “What’s beeping in the bathroom??”
It was the Leak Frog because she was generous with water when mopping the floor. Always on duty.
@guyfromhawthorn @katbyter How does a Leak Frog actually fail?
@mikey These two forgot to check the expiration date.
@mikey and the guy center left in brown with no eyes and a weird extra digit.

@brainmist @Kyeh yes, bit of a stretch I know, especially since they’re limited on where they will sell. Typically just their own outlet store and Home Depot… But maybe if they had seconds or refurbished.

@rustyh3 Maybe some of the vacuums, then?
4k tv’s, quality knives, coffee stuff, cast iron, furniture.
Garden and outdoor items
@barbjim1 I keep killing gazebos, so if they did some drastically discounted ones, I might just stock up.
Pasta
You need to sell more de-glittering vacuums. Teachers must hate parents when they send kids home with that stuff everywhere.
@adr5 It’s called “craft herpes” for a reason.
Suck Cuts, obviously
I think stuffed mascots are always good. Or maybe screaming monkeys? No, definitely don’t do that!
/showme a stuffed mascot toy for an online deal site that is mischievous but also cute.
@pmarin a life sized concrete Irk statue. I want one for my garden
@OnionSoup @pmarin
I think that’s about the size of your average garden gnome.
@OnionSoup @pmarin I’d consider a Glen… but a mold might make more sense.
Imagine if they came up with a crowd-sourced mold set, and all supporters were mailed it in sequence, made their statues, and sent it along.
@Kyeh @pmarin maybe a gnome… But a large gnome at least.
IRK
Stuff I don’t know I need until I see it.
No, I don’t have any examples, how could I?
@blaineg Your sense of logic and responsibility has no place here.
Back to the old stuff. A variety of speaker docks. A variety of knives.
Gummy bears.
@sammydog01 how to get a song stuck in a gen x head for five weeks by only writing two words…
@OnionSoup The other gummy bear song was on my iPod along with several by Crazy Frog- my car pool kids loved it.
If you could sell a large capacity battery pack flashlight with a blade, I’m all in. I’d buy two if it’s bundled with spicy ramen.
@capnjb It better be a bluetooth speaker, too.
Something I want to buy. I wouldn’t know what I want until I see it.
Lasers.
Lasers would be good.
@naturallia 10kW pulsed with variable lateral beam dispersion for under $700, and I’m up for two.
How about left over K95 covid 19 masks? Or maybe almost as useful, cira 1985 used 10’ satellite dishes.
