@heartny@mycya4me I hate to cook but obviously have to do it. My kid once asked me why I cook when I hate to. I told her that DHS takes a dim view on parents who don’t cook for their kids.
I have to clean up after myself and my S.O., because he has vision issues and can’t always see the mess he’s made on the stovetop, work table, and counters. (He’s legally blind.)
Scrape out the burnt mess when i leave the food on the stove - for just a moment - then get absent-minded about how long it was on and return to incinerated gunk in the pot.
My sense of time has eroded with age, but thank goodness i can still smell the fumes as a reminder, so the house doesn’t burn down.
@phendrick
Our kitchen has a heat/smoke detector in the only area of the ceiling that can let heat [and/or smoke] out, which means we get a lot of false alerts.
Often enough so that my running joke with SWMBO is “It’s not an oven timer…”.
Just remembering to have the ceiling fan running on at least the low setting mitigates all but the most serious cases.
But, it’s almost comical how often one or both of us forgets to make that one simple change before starting cooking.
@hchavers I suggest that you listen (most of the Time! Especially an hour or so before Meal time. She could remind you what it was like to be Single, & have to do it ALL.
"Moose meat is generally considered tasty, with a flavor described as similar to beef but with a slightly gamey, richer, and sometimes floral taste, depending on the moose’s diet.
Here’s a more detailed look at moose meat:
Flavor:
Moose meat is often described as having a deep, rich, and gamey flavor, similar to beef but with a stronger, more pronounced taste.
Texture:
It’s known for being lean and having a slightly tougher texture than beef, which can be improved
by slow cooking methods.
Diet:
The flavor of moose meat can also be influenced by the moose’s diet, with some suggesting a floral taste from willow buds.
Preparation:
Moose meat is often used in dishes like roasts, stews, and ground meat preparations, and can be cooked in similar ways to beef.
Health Benefits:
Moose meat is a good source of protein and essential nutrients, and it’s naturally lean, containing less fat than many other types of meat.
That said, I have eaten venison, elk, bison, caribou, and various vegan burgers, and I have preferred all of the meats to the veggies- except for the moral and/or environmental arguments against their production and consumption.
@mycya4me
Me/Us neither, not that there’s anything wrong with them.
We just don’t hunt and won’t/wouldn’t be gutting, gralloching, or cleaning any kind of animal in our kitchen.
@PhysAssist My dad was not a Hunter, we had & still have a few guns around the house.
But the way I “Hunt” today is I use a Camera. I have “bagged” many critters, Winged, 2 & 4 legged too. Won many Ribbons for my subjects I shot! the best part all the critters are still alive.
I believe in antibacterial soap, so handling raw meat has never bothered me. I have field dressed a deer, will debone the entire chicken, mix meatloaf, whatever with raw meat barehanded as long as I wash my hands.
Which brings me to the one and only answer: cleaning up.
Other: boil chicken. The smell still gives me intense nausea after chemo (and it’s been 11 years). Also speak for yourselves, I can dice and slice just fine
Eons ago, when I used to be one of the culinary staff for CAID’s kitchen magician, we had a person who did all the clean up in exchange for free lunch. She was a marvel and you learned to not set a spoon down if you were going to stir something again in a few seconds, LOL
I love cooking, I hate cleaning up, so I rarely cook anything elaborate anymore.
For me it’s handling raw chicken, cutting the fat off. I’m meticulous about getting all the fat off. Raw chicken and the smell just grosses me out. I wear disposable gloves and still dread doing it. I’ve also gotten what my dr said he’s only seen in third world countries salmonella poisoning, so I just don’t like handling raw meat no matter how much I wash my hands.
I also HATE chopping onions but I just cut it into a quarter and toss it into my mini chopper and it makes it so much easier. No more crying from onions.
CLEAN UP!!!
@yakkoTDI Yes, this!
/showme cats washing the dishes in the kitchen
Looks better than when dogs clean the dishes.

@xobzoo it looks like you are getting ready to wash the Dog with the Dishes.
Cook
@heartny you either Cook/ Bake, or have to go out for each meal!
@mycya4me I prefer to go out, but my other option is making a salad, which doesn’t require cooking or baking.
@heartny @mycya4me I hate to cook but obviously have to do it. My kid once asked me why I cook when I hate to. I told her that DHS takes a dim view on parents who don’t cook for their kids.
@Kidsandliz You could tell them you doubt that they would like to go out into the woods & find stuff to eat!
@heartny I have a Mini George Forman grill. it saves me to having to Microwave everything. I have started Baking Banana Bread & a few other mixes.
@mycya4me I have a mini George Foreman grill too, but it requires something else I don’t like to do other than cooking, which is cleaning.
@heartny Trust me I don’t like cleaning. Dishes, the Place I live, the Yard (including Mowing or leaves)
But the George Foreman grill don’t nee much cleaning. Mostly the Drip pan, hamburgers are the worst, But better in the Drip pan than in me!
I have a 5l hour water boiler, I never wait for water to boil. Best money I’ve ever spent
@Jamileigh17 ITYM 5L/hr, or am I missing something?
@werehatrack ugh, no hour, phone caused a typo. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Zojirushi-CD-LFC50WA-Panorama-Window-Micom-Boiler-Warmer/50736248 this thing.

Listen to my wife complain. If I don’t listen, it means I don’t care and am not hungry.
@hchavers I suggest that you listen (most of the Time! Especially an hour or so before Meal time. She could remind you what it was like to be Single, & have to do it ALL.
@hchavers @mycya4me OR you could cook instead. No reason why it has to be the wife’s job.
Field dress (gralloch) a moose.
@Pavlov why would I want to do that? They are kool Critters when they are alive!
@Pavlov
Or any animal in our kitchen.
@mycya4me

@Pavlov Putting on the pants is particularly troublesome.
@PhysAssist 1st off I am not a Vegan! I love Pork, Beef, Chicken, Fish & others, Yes I have a Salad every now & then! I don’t do Deer, Moose, Bear!
@macromeh @Pavlov /showme Cats putting on pants.

Peeling garlic. Peeling onions. Eff those little bits of peel that stick and don’t come off neatly!
you knew the answer before reading the questions!
Other: boil chicken. The smell still gives me intense nausea after chemo (and it’s been 11 years). Also speak for yourselves, I can dice and slice just fine
@silphcolapras
I think it’s pretty gross too.

Cleaning the vents on the hood’s extractor. Not my favorite.
